jeffo
G'day, top effort on the little billfish, have you sent an email to Dr Peperell about it? im sure he would love to hear where and when it was caught and also see any photos you might have. he might also be able to let you know for sure what type of billfish it is....as all small billfish have the "sail" dorsal fin. bung
pretty sure it's a baby marlin rather than a sail. not sure the species though.
changa
Phar cue, Great report mate and some top pics. I think that althoough tiny marlin also have a sail instead of a defined dorsal fin, the giveaway i think would be the pelvic fins. Nice little sail id say, but, you never know I will be back up at SWR for a few days from the 12th. cant wait! changa

I have seen the sails on juvenile marlin, but not with the long pevic fins(if you can call them that) like in that link. Now you got me thinking. ANyone heard from Dr Pepperell? Wish i had caught the little blighter. its an awesome fish. I once caught a port jackson shark that i could sit on the palm of my hand. it was so cute. I saw it swimming and netted it, took a couple pics and released it. changa
bung
the doc heard of the capture and was keen to get a hold of the specimen, but unfortunately (for him anyway) the fish was released.
