  1. the hook just poppoed clean out of its mouth. my understanding was that circle hooks didn't need setting. this happens naturally as a fish takes a run with the hook inside its mouth. and that once they are hooked, they stay hooked through the corner of the mouth. anyway, not in this case.
  2. Howdy raiders, damn near bagged my first king on sunday evening. spent the afternoon pottering around with my 5yr old godson which was pleasant enough if totally unproductive on the fishing front. dropped him off at clontarf at about six and got down to some more serious business. picked up yakkas from the spit and motored up to sugarloaf bay. following advice from one of no no no's reports, i chucked in the anchor in noisily and a couple of yakka's on a size 8 light gauge circle hook. craig reckons the kings will come running like a dumb dog will chase the postman. so it proved. rod at the back with the big baitrunner is doubled over and i am in to my first tussle in ages. 3 or four screaming runs and there is a big silver shape starting to show. got him to the top, boatside, but its just me, no net and no time to grab my gaff. the king isn't done yet and he takes another dive when POP. out comes the circle hook. the fish was pretty darn solid, maybe 80cm at a guess. anyway, it was bloody exciting to have a decent fish on the end of the line, if not in the pan. absolutely beautiful evening in a magic spot too. what about circle hooks? i thought that once hooked, a fish was doomed, unless it breaks the line. what are your thoughts raiders? fishing for jew and kings mainly. cheers all
