  1. it suprised me to find out recently that a lot of seafood shops sell bait too. i saw one in leichhardt that had fresh pillies and something else (maybe slimey) they also have fresh garfish.
  2. My mates are taking me out on either broadbill or billfisher (not sure which one) for my 21st birthday present. wish me luck, would love to land a YFT and maybe some dollies.
  3. Speak to Pete from Gofish dural. he regularly helps out site members with top discounts.
  4. This summer i recieved i nice deep spine from a big bream. I do not know if any raiders are familiar with Dawn fraser pools in balmain. often monster bream school up in the corners of this ocean pool and it is fun to see them frenzy when some muscles are broken off the rocks, crushed and dropped in. while feeding them one summers day my mongrel of a buddy thought it would be funny to push me into the pool from behind, being low tide it was a 2m fall into this school of spikey critter. putting my arms out to shield my fall i ended up shaking hands with the pointy end of a bream. the tip of the spine stayed in my finger for weeks before my body finally broke it down, and it was quite painful indeed every time i curled that finger. maybe next time ill take a little handreel down for revenge.
  5. Not dreaming mate, stick with it and it will come when you least expect it. theres a plethora of info on this site on the various species and how to catch them in different locations.
  6. Hey Greg, thanks for the reply. I understand what you mean however that is not the problem, i am using a Shimano rack raider 6"8 with a stradic 2500FI, 6 pound fireline with a 9 pound fluorocarbon leader. (i know the line is kinda heavy but im after some big flattys occasionally). I tried to explain that Im losing cast distance when fishing in windy conditions. I was mainly trying to gain an understand of the pros and cons of such a system that i suggested because I personally think that you can never cast too far, being able to cover more ground is a big advantage IMHO. Thank you for your reply though. Regards, Dave.
  7. Hey guys, I hate how good light jigheads are very hard to cast long distances. I thought up a possible solution thats probably already been made, if so could someone please direct me as to where i can find them? If a regular jighead is made with a small air bubble inside it would this increase its bouyancy (for finess fishing) without reducing its weight and castability? or would a small air bubble not be enough to slow its sink rate? i thought about just using a more bouyant Soft Plastic however this would result in a retarded swim action on the sink (head down tail straight up) Is my idea bogus or is there somewhere out there i can find such a jighead (or other solution to my problem)? your thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Dave E.
  8. Thanks heaps mate. I am in a boat but im sure many of these areas are accessible by boat.
  9. Thanks heaps Hodgey. Great information there.. i will be sure to post pics after i head out next.
  10. Hey guys, i recently purchased a small yo-zuri popper in hope of catching a few big bream etc.. What im wondering is the best retrieval method? im making small jerks back winding in the slack in between, is this the best way to fish these lures or should i be doing something else? also should i be casting it with or against the wind? I understand many people will have a different method but im just wondering what has worked for you in the past. Cheers, Dave.
  11. Hey Raiders, I know that this has probably been brought up before however i could not find a thread I was wondering if anyone could link me to a map or post outlining the well known areas of botany bay that are good for particular species/ techniques. I know the basics but i would love to know where the best squidding areaa etc are. Thanks in advance for taking your time to help. Cheers, Dave.

  13. Hey, just wanted to know if anyone else had ever caught a kingfish on chicken breast??? yesterday we pulled up at a buoy in botany to go for some bream or whatnot and a legal kingy took my mates little chicken breast strip bait in under 30 secs. fortunately for my mate and his small rod, he only had 5m of line out so the fight ended before any damage was done to his rod.
  14. hey guys, my buddy and i just caught a 'just legal' king in botany bay. it has some dark spots down one side and on its tail like some sort of disease... is it safe to eat? im hungry and i dont know if i should eat it or not? also is it safe to sashimi? thanks for the help.
  15. Hey guys. I wish to purchase a shimano stradic 2500 or similar class reel. Where is the cheapest place to pickup reels? are any tackle stores well known to be the cheapest for such items? I do not mind if it is used as long as it is in good condition. any advice would be greatly appreciated
