Clifton gardens is fun with light tackle - just beware - the car park gates lock at 9:30pm so you need to leave your car at the top and walk down or move it during the evening

Hahaha It looks like he doens't know if he wants the fish or wants rid of it when he nearly gets it on board!
"Here! Take it!" haha

How far out had you cast the bait to catch the beast?
-
Oh awesome thanks! Any pics of your haul?

Which part of the wharf were you fishing for the flatties? I'm yet to get a flathead at clifton!

Jump on youtube and search for "beach fishing tips" and "beach fishing gutters"
They show you how to find gutters (a bit) and the gear, technique etc .. I learnt a lot from youtube. Also one afternoon I went down to the cronilla surf club and spent a few hours chatting to a.few different surfers / life savers / locals etc who taugh me a lot about gutters

Hey mate - I am fairly new to beach fishing too but will try best to help a bit - Did you find the line was slipping out of your hand half way through your cast?
I was having this problem so I upgraded to 3m of 40lb leader - I use braid so sort of necessary or I would cut my fingers off lol.
I find it quite hard to cast a whole pilly AND a 112gm star sinker - So for a 10ft rod I would lose one or the other and downgrade. e.g lose the star sinker and switch to a large running ball sinker or lose the pillie and go with beach worms or whole prawns/smaller baits ..
I havent used anything bigger than a 10ft rod so thats really all I can add .. try find a gutter and your bait wont wash around as much and dont forget most gutters are less than 20m from shore - yoh dont need to cast to New Zealand to catch fish!
(sorry if any of rhe above is incorrect - It is just what I have learnt with my limited beach fishing experience)

Those bloody grubs are a nightmare to get onto the jig head! I've nearly punched holes in my fingers when you slip after having them stretched out desperately trying to slide it over the lead head
Excellent fish! That bream is huuge!
Where were you fishing? Looks like near where king street wharf and the aquarium meet?
Get many people bothering you there?

Awesome bream! Looks so clean too - I once got a bream off the beach that was really black and dark looking which suprised me - I thought beach bream would be the most clean / silver looking.
I dont think anyone was trying to have a go about your catch and before you stop posting here - which would be a shame - you should at least read this article and see why everyone is so concerned for your health

WOOOOO! What an awesome fish!
Congrats! -
If you have to ask to go fishing - time for a new missus!

I meant the juice that comes with the plastics.
I do have one of the large $27 tubs of the gulp assorted shrimp - but find they are a bit harder / tougher compared to the ones in the packet. Not sure why though.
So I have a large tub of juice and the juice in the vegemite jars that comes with the packets -
Hmmmmm ... I have tried the freshwater trick (with a jar also) and I am still getting the odd swivel / jig head rusting - I was hoping for a lubricant to spray on to keep them from rusting.
I might try fish oil!
-
I use old Kraft Vegemite jars!
The little ones for grubs / short minnows. And the bigger jars for the bigger fish / minnows / worms etc.
As soon as I get a new packet of plastics, I immediately put them into a new jar.
I have a separate tackle box full of Jars I keep in my plastics / flicking back pack so I can change it up quickly. They never leak and are easy to wash if you spill any juice.

So what should you spray your hooks and swivels with if they get salt water on them??
-
That mullet is huuuge!
-
Ive been using power pro 10lb braid on my flicking rod with a kota 20lb leader and after a day of flicking the albright will fail and 'pop' off
-
If you do not tie on a mono backing, the braid will not fill the spool. when you are casting the braid will hit the lip and slow your cast down. Also for connecting mono to braid, the albright knot is the most UNreliable knot there is!!
Use a double blood knot!
a lot of people might disagree with me but I have had so many albright knots fail ...
-
What I have learnt is - you don't need to cast half a kilometer to catch fish. Sunrise on the beach - fish light, prawns / worms. And you should get some flathead / whiting
-
You can buy foam floats with weights in them
