  1. I had a yakka out one night as live bait at Clifton gardens - after an hour I reeled in to see if he was still alive and kicking and found the eyes had been eaten out and there was a white cockroach looking bug inside the head cavity - are they sand fleas ??

It was about the size of a large brown cockroach - pretty disturbing at 3 - 4am when you're starting to get tired!

  2. That is what I saw at Maroubra beach last year around October I think it was when the "Red Tide" ? was around Sydney.

It looked like lightning shooting through the waves as they broke - amazing.

    Another video :

    And one more!

Is this what you saw Quochuy?

By the way - I liked your facebook page so I see all your fishing adventures!
Cant wait til the Northern beaches fire up!
  3. Made the trek to the pole on Dee Why beach last night, fished from 6:00pm to 10:30 (High tide was 8:40ish) got 3 small sand crabs which were demolishing pilchards as usual.

Still cant crack beach fishing. I spoke to a surfer on the way in who told me there were no good gutters at the moment they had all been washed flat. Is this due to the lower high tides?

Tried fresh squid, pillies and prawns.

  4. Even though all the odds were against me today (see pic below) I wanted to wet a line.

I packed the car and took some old frozen pillies and prawns with me planning to use them as burley.

After a 30min drive I arrived at the bait shop on the princes highway and realised I had left my wallet at home! no fresh bait for me.

Next hurdle, I got to captain cooks landing place national park and had to pay $7 parking. Had to call home and get someone to read out my credit card details so I could park!

Finally got down onto the rocks at kurnell and not much was happening. Flicked some plastics around that are shaped like a little red/green crab (Gulp! Crabbys) kept getting the legs and claws biten off them but couldnt hook up to what was doing it. At about 4:15 the sun was gone behind the rocks and I wanted to be on the beach for the 5:58 high tide, so I packed up and headed for Wanda beach near the surf club. Fished from 4:50 - 10:00pm and managed a small tailor right around high tide and a few small sand crabs that kept demolishing my pilchards!

Nothing amazing to report but was nice to be near the water on such a nice day.

One thing I want to recommend to everyone is to get some of that bait wrap / string stuff.

It comes as a little spindle and it is magic at keeping mushy pillies whole and on the hook!

  5. Spend a day on youtube watching every fishing guide, rig tips, bait tips, knots tips, beach fishing tips, soft plastic tips etc video you can find!

Youtube is a goldmine of information and much quicker than reading a book. You can hone in on exactly what sort of fishing you want to be doing.

The most important thing is not to give up first few times if you dont catch anything. It is winter so the fishing is a little slow and I guarantee there are seasoned pros on here that still have days or nights out without a bite!
