  1. My brother was over from Norfolk Isl for the week. As we were in the Botany Bay tourny so he came out on the Sunday. The seas were average and empty. We managed to get a small beekie on the short rigger and puled off 5 meters of line and then went to the long rigger and done the same. That was it for the tourny. Very slow fishing. After going to the tackle shop and being talked into the octo jig by my bro, we got possessed and went out. We decided to see what the reefs, as in Osborne shoal and the bommie. It we dry as well. On our way back from Osborne to the bommie just on dusk we left the octo jig out as a lure. Low and behold 2 billy bonitos We pulled into Jibbon just after dark and started to squid jig. My bro who has not jigged before as about half way through asking how to do it when ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ on my sons xmas present rod. One of those short ugly sticks from tackle word. He was on to a solid squid (we thought). No it was a solid Cuttlefish. OMG they are ugly. We weren’t to sure as to what to do with it, or if it was nice to eat. A phone call later to a friend who said they tend to be a little tuff and it was a quick pic and back in. We got back home just after 12pm and we had 2 billies, 2 small squid (one small than my hand) and a sizable cuttlefish (released).
  2. Definitely get another rod and troll some skirts around and if one goes off don’t be to scared to chase the fish with the pointy end of the boat while someone clears the line. The Botany Bay Game Fish tourny is on this weekend so ther should be a few boats out and about trolling that area. Good luck
  3. OK Were to start. I think the fishing is a good start. As noted above we were staying in the Sherriton on Dennaru Isl. not really a isl. We had seen the charter come in with some decent fish and booked it. The booking was a little how you going, Bob the skip said he would call the day before once he checked the weather. Well at 5 in the afternoon we called him and was assured we were still on for a 6am pick up of the beach in front of the motel. The boat was ½ hour late but turned up and we were off. It was about a 1 hour steam to the outer reef edge. Lures were dropped in the passage between two islands and while discussing who was on first strike ZZZZZZZZ, so I pointed at Nath, Justin’s young fella and he was on the biggest fish of his life. Unfortunately it was only a barracuda. He had a blast.\ While trolling we saw what we thought was a oil rig, but after asking we were informed it was a surfing viewing platform on the reef. 10-15 min later with the breeze picking up to around 18-20kn we were in around 3500feet of water and birds all around. It took about 1h to get the first strike and once it jumped we new it was a dolly of around 10-12kg. The fight time was not to long as it was on 24kg line. The other 2 strikes took about 2hours and both were landed. One fish to each of us. As it was a ½ day charter that was it and we trolled back to the reef to head in, no other strikes were got. Great day out except for no popper fishing but the breeze was up, some might say the 20kn of breeze is not up but the days before it would have been no more that 8kn. There is a but to the story. When we asked to take the fish for cooking, Bob the skip said ill take the fish to my cousin’s restaurant for cooking The Curry House. It was crap and they tried to rip us off. So don’t fall for that one. Check out the pics below. Not bad pics for a phone camera And some more
  4. Well im in Fiji now. The flight and transferes Well im in Fiji now. The flight and transferes were to easy, motel (Sherriton) is tops as well as the weather. Im here with some friends and we have seen a charter boat come in twice, once with a 10-15kg dogtooth tuna and a some coral trout as well as a dolly about 10kg. We have decided to book it, i think the agreed price was $750F The rods are fully spooled and the the guy seem to know what he is on about. We will be doing some trolling for dollies and blues and some popper fishing for GTs, fingers crossed. The cyclone that came through in December has done a fair bit of damage, massive palm trees have been up rooted and a few motelshave roof damage. We went on a snorkling trip yesterday and the coral has been damaged pretty bad as well. Cheers
  5. Funny story with the land based stuff. My Bro was telling me a story once when ET came over to to a story. He was sitting next to him, chatting with sharke baits in the water on his 15kg outfit off hte warf, late in the afternoon and hooked up. My bro went to sunset and popped it and bashed himself in the face with the rod, smashing his sunnies and ET looked at him and just done the old O K im outa here
  6. If you want to save $$$$$$ Have you got a phone with GPS I have a samsung I900 and brought a Garmin GPS program off a certen online auction that starts with E (thay wont allow me to type the name of it) for 29 bucks Works great for the car and all maps included. Just spend a day around your fav inlet and put waypoints in for the shoreline this will give you a shoreline, then you can work on the so called spot X's The seller was someone called MOTO something with numbers, not to sure of them. Just search (once again the same mobe that starts with E) for the seller or programs for phones All was above board Seemed a little dodgy when i got it, i had to email the seller some number when the program was installed, but up she went and has not missed a beat. I still will always recommend and compass & map for back up, but we all carry the ph. Even in the car, the thieves cant see the suction cap thing and even still i take my ph with me. The map of the waterway is in it but not detailed. Im in Sydney and it has all the water ways up and down the coast. I travel to SEQ a bit and around Surfers all the channels are there. If not for the 1st one on the boat, its great for a back up
  7. Its happend to all of us, but its just too funny
  8. Mum wasnt to happy but its not the first time. The shirt went straight into the bin and dad told him to jump straight into the pool.
  9. My friend and i were cleaning our boats early Boxing Day when I heard some laughing and looked up at the pontoon to see my mate’s eldest one hunched over slowly making his way up the pontoon. When he stoped and turned around the two of us nearly feel over laughing and this is what we saw. I dont think you could get a better shot, straight down the center.
  10. Yeah its all got to do with the $$$fun tickets $$$ and being able to get them of the finance manager.
  11. Here is the the lid with clears on They still need the zips for the sides to the front. Just ran out of time before xmas. I made the templates up and gave them to a mob called Ace Canvas on Taren Point Rd. Considering the bad templates i done, thay managed to come through with the clears. But all in all not bad for $800 + the sail track $150 I know a friend that got a 35 berty redone and that cost $3500, my f/bridge is longer than a bertys one.
  12. The one that got away Thay are allways the biggest fish But we never know And shark fishos that i know love Bundy Rum(Lunatick soup),and a good story YEP GOOD FISH, GOOD FISH Just taken da piss
  13. Oh mate yep GOOD FISH Got be 800+kg Mate Yep GOOD FISH
  14. I know this might sound funny as its for big game but The pakula UZI. Any colour, supose my fave colour is the lumoish green and purple/black I think its caught more fish including game fish than any other lure i have. From tailor, kings, albys, yellowfin, blacks, striped marlin and stripes tuna to shortbill spearfish. For tailor and kings you need to slow down to 4ish knots. They come riged with a tiny trace, i think its 80 or 100 pound trace and some tiny hooks that you may as well use for bream. Off with those and some 150-300lb jinki and a decient singal stainless hook. Allways goes out in the middle of the spread just where the prop was clears. The only time its not out is when we dont want to catch striped tuna. The tend if not to windy to stay in the water, and not pop as much as a bigger lure thats why the tuna of all sorts love them Also good to go over a rigged skipping gar. I know that thay are very popular up in SE Queensland for the little blacks. I do so love big lures but whats best, A big lure that catches a little amount of big fish or a little lure that catches big amount of fish as well as big fish.
  15. I just got off skyp with my brother OK where to start He said that it was that flat & quite that they could here fish jumping They ( he and his mate Shane from Saltwater Charters) fished 25 nm south of the Isl in 50m reefy bottom and cleaned up on kings, sweetlip and nannygai (the big ones). The cream of the crop were these two snapper. They weighed in, 11 & 9kg gilled and gutted. They lost the 3rd one due to a broken hook on a squidgy. He showed me some of the squidgies they were using that had been pack raped by occy’s or squid. Not much left of them. He also said that the sharks are thick at the moment with the first king being drawn and quartered in no time at all right in front of them as the visibility is around 1000 fathoms. Absolutely perfect water quality. They saw 2 Wahoo cruse on past but no joy there. How tough would this be to take?

  21. G Day Anth Long time no run into. I was down last week end working on the boat (as usual), then decided to take it for a spin. I ran into Gleno on his way to Botany Bay with his old boy, then I came back to the marina and was following Gav in his new 28 Berty. His back from QLD for good. Neil was hanging around. Singo was out in his ski boat. Almost like the good old days just with a lot less beer. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge now, since those days. I Bumped into old Johny a couple of years back, He was just the same, just a little older. Dirko said he saw old Johny not that long ago and he is still kicken on You will have to dust your beast of for summer and come and have a beer.
  22. Its all for food, even in the reasturants. Thay dont import fish so when the weather is good, the whole isl. goes fushen. Not a bad lifestyle if you ask me Good wather, gotta go fushen When i was single i could do that!
  23. No sure But to answer you Q, with another Q Why in Sydney we have to wait till winter(cold currents) for the tuna and people get good tuna in the tropical waters (hot currents)? I put it to blue water Mag and Dr Julian Pepperal answered with sone speall that didnt really make sence. Why dont we get good tunain the hot currents when blue marlin are aroun, after all isnt that there most bestest food? Got me stumped.
  24. When John (my Bro) was here last time we were looking through his computer trying to find some photos of a Wahoo he got 2 years ago. It was about 5 foot long. No idea how many KG but a solid fish. We couldn’t find the pics. He also had his new plans to build a 25 Carolina style center console. You know the saying “Build it and they will come” I have all the necessary paraphernalia for heavy tackle trolling. Look Out the big striped marlin and Blue dogs
