  1. Another beautiful day out! couldn't get any big pelagic fish to come up cos the sea was like glass. But the bottom feeders didn't know that, so we teased them up to the surface. we had bottom bait down for the trumpy and we were pulling up huge ofi (trevally) i tell you what, they didn't want to see the sunlight. great day, hope you like the photos. i think there might be photos of the dolphins as well. This is straight from the the email that i was sent The Snapper is a old pic from last year but still from Norfolk Isl What a cracker Dont know about anyone else, but today in Sydney (Shitme) is wasnt realy a day for boating let alone fishing as the skys opened up around 11am and i think that any boat on the water would of really wanted a good bilge pump. Cheer thanks John PS sign up and do the Norfolk isl report your self ..
  2. The crazy thing with the way they launch the boat is that the crane is car powered. The lifting cable is attached to the car and they drive backwards to lift the boat.
  3. Just before I was about to head into the Consumer Trades & Tenancy Tribunal to try to get money out of a pest inspector for a dodgy termite inspection the he done that I got stiffed the repaired bill for. My loving brother rand on he’s way back in from a days out and asked what im up to. Didn’t take me long to figure out that he had been out fishing and I said you bastard. He then proceeded to tell be that they had got 16 kingies in the 10-20 KG range jigging and a whole bin of sweet lip. THAT BASTARD He sent the pics to post and in the email, and I quote “13 hours of hard slog, now gotta get a good nights rest cos we're dooin it again tommora” Not to sure but did I say THAT BASTARD Not bad In some of the pics you can see Norfolk Isl in the back round What a crazy way to launch a boat. He said "Thay left them bitting and on the way home they saw a massive school of birds proberly working tuna but none of them could move there arms and thay had to clean the fish still." 98 Kg of fillets
  4. Im heading over on 05/01/2010 Anyone have contacts for a charter for a day out trolling. GoldenEgal may be a bit out of our price range. Staying on Denarau Isl.
  5. No i thought more like The Great Burraneer Reef It hasnt been done in a couple of years.
  6. As you may see in the photos it was a little overdue for a antifoul While it was out i gave it a polish up to the gunnels and tennshed project And thefinished product
  7. Here is just a taste The boys on the isl. said the wahoo just started biting to some more Nice one more anyone for golf
  8. Sweet hoo Im heading over for xmas What are the $$ on charters
  9. He is coming over next week. Ill tell him to bring some pics
  10. Thanks Tony Sure does sound like that But a drain of he carby never hurts
  11. Check the breather on the fuel tank is clear. Try draining the carby. Some whers on the bottom of the carby bowl will be a screw. Undo it, not with the fuel line on and let all the fuel out. Its just the first place to start. Then look more indepth
  12. I got off the phone from my brother today who lives on Norfolk. You kinda know the feeling when someone is telling you someting and you can feel yourself sinking. Well i got that today He told me the weather was perfect (but it has been blowing for the last 3 week) and that he was going for a tuna troll this afternoon. He went out yesterday and trolled for about 40 nm with 0's until he came backs to the shore line were the fin were. As the sun was going down the got 2 to 30kg and lost acouple off the stones. Being thay have to winch the boats in and out they had to leave the fish to get the boat in. When they got back they found out that some of the kids got a fin with a hand line from the shore as they were after kingies. I just checked the emails and ther was noting from him, which may be a pisser. They may of caught a heap and are still cleaning them or he just forgot to emial me I have to talk him into joining to give everyone up dates He just got plans for a 25 footer today hence the ph call. Once he builds the boat he wants to start fishing charters as they are going to build a marina over ther soon( Sometime) Dont forget that Norfolk is only about 100nm north of Wanganalla Bank
  13. You may laugh. The Dubber ruckie rack is way to high. With the rubber duckie on the top, the duck is higher than the bow rail. So it was back to the garage, its all been cut up to be (fully) lowered. I have all of the lid stays welded but am well and truly done with polishing You dont get very far and make a massive mess for not much shine. I have spoke to a mate who knows a polisher. Ill have to pay the bucks. Summer is approching fast, i have to get my finger out.
  14. I have tied my 38 footer up a Huskie Warf over night, but you have to not upset the dive and charter boats. I have a friend who live down there that contractes back to the navy and is/was a skipper of a 100footer who is trying to organise a weekend for some big boats. I mentioned to him that the time of port stephens would be great for boats that dont go to PS but he will be in port for the torny. He is keen for some other time though. You may want to try calling Husky fishing club/pub or the likes of that down there and see if some one could help.
  15. here we go fully polished Man thats ahard job
  16. I knocked up this dubber ruckie rack with the left over ribs from the soft top. Once all the welding is done im going to knock up a davit the slides into a rod holder like thin on the bow rail up near where it bends into the bowsprit (stronger up there). I figer i weight 75 kg and put all of my weight plus pulling/pushing on it when rafting up, so it should be able to lift a small dubber ruckie that i can carry (on one hand up the gunnel) + a 4HP, up and over the bowsprit. LOST OF WORK TO DO BEFORE SUMMER. It gets slipped in october and a full cut and polish. There is alot of boat when it comes to cut and polishing. OOHH and clears, I was going to do them myself but i think i have enough to do.
  17. Here is one with the stainless work completed on one side, not polished (ran out of gas welding)
  18. Here we go, some pics of it on I still have to weld another stay at the rear to finnish of the ladder/rocket launcher look Here are the last. Me Like You may notice the second last pic with the dash and be wondering where the instraments are. Thats the nest project to finninsh before summer, it has 2 hatches that pop up and there is 2 sounders and gauges and the other one has the radios. Thats a major unfinnished progect, not for long i hope. Whatcha think
  19. From the top The measurements i needed was 3 meters by 2.5 which to me seemed massive and it was in the garage, now its up it could have been alittle bigger. Glass in a roll only comes in 1.2 or 1 meter wide so i put 2 sheets of masionite down in the garage sticky taped togeather lenghtways as they only come in 2.4m long. This gave me the length and i layed chopstrand then mat which gave me a sheet of around 2-3 mm thich. I done this times 2, but still i was not wide enough. Back to the masionite with the sheets wide enough to give me about 2.7meters i glassed them togeather with a peice of timber underneath to give me a rib for strenght as well as a recessed grab rail on the under side. There i had the skin for it. I flipped it over and sat it in a cradle to give the arch shape I then glassed over 4by2 thinly which i peeled off the timber to make the ribs down each side and measured out where the mounting poles will be and put in about 1cm of glass for strength. These were glassed on around about 10cm in from the edge with about 3-4mm thich mat. The front and back shapes were made from masionite and same thing with glass matt. The big rib on top is much the same with masionite but has 12 mm ply as the arials will be through bolted, i will gain access via speaker holes when i get to that part. The center radar wedge was molded separatly and glassed with the front cover rib over the recess rib. I made it hollow to be able to run the wires for the remote spotlight, plus it adds more strenght if its hollow. This tied it all togather and made it very strong. I weigh 75kg and stood on the center rib slightly bouncing. Next was the rolled edge. I trimed the right shape and glued and clamped conduit down the sides and made the bends with the gas stove and jouned it up with the front and back ones. With left over glass cut it in strips sat it on the conduit down to where the skin top met the 4by2 rib and glassed them on. Once again another hollow rib the whole way around. More strength. Plus the waterwill allways run out to the edge. Then i think something like 150 -200 hours (all up including 2 pack primer sanding)of sanding. I did screw up a couple of times trying to cut corners, like poring resin over it to get it smooth, bad idea. And useing a belt sander that left gouges at the edges of the belts. One of the hardest thing was to try and fill the pin holes, ther were thousands of them and still is quite a few. For $300 plus paint a panel beater painted it for me and got a pritty good finninsh on it(better than i could of done) I fitted it just this weekend, i still need to make some more stays but its up. I will post some more photos later this week
  20. I thought i might start a thread and not hijack someone elses Well after 2 years and A LOT of sanding i have finally og the hard top on my 38 Mustang. But of cause my phone went flat on saterday when i put it up so i dont have any pics of it up yet but that will change as soon as i get bak down there. Here are some pis of the building and what it went on \ Here is the boat with the old bimini And some more of the building, oh did i say lots of sanding And some more when all of the sanding was finally done
  21. My hard top weighs about 60-80kg and yes i will put some serious support only because i like the look of it, im useing 50mm s/steel pipe as teh stays. As far as windage the bimini & clears was just as bad, if i was sittin in the bay and a good gust of wind got me i could feel the boat lean over. Im expecting that it should only weigh up to 120kg up top which is only the size of my mate so its not that much. Just rember when useing glass it is not the amount of glass but the bends & gapes between layers(look at a surf board) that give strength. The radar chock on top could have been smaller looking at it now but that whole rib system on top meets up with the frame rib underneath plus the rolled edge. if you take a closer look at the rolled edge, behind it the taper,is not just to allow for the water to run out but it is also more of a rib the whole way around. all the ribs are hollow. Really it is just a frame with a skin attached Hopfully if the gods shine down on me i will have some photos of it on after saterday. Forth time lucky
