  1. Dear Fishoers Fishing after a big wet seems to divide many fishoes, there are those who believe its prime time to target fish as it brings the fish in, due to the abundance of food washed in the water, then those who think all the fresh water pushes the fish out of the rivers and bays. Id be interested in the fishoes who continue to fish during these wet periods, do they target particular species, or change the way they fish, and does the success rate change. I personally enjoy putting on my wet weather gear and heading towards the heads, fish like Taylor seem to come out in force. Burley especially during these times seems to play a part in deciding if anything gets netted on the boat. What’s the consensus ? In any case staying home usually results in the ball-breaking miss allocating chores, give me a wet seat any day.
  2. hI FISHOES Purchased a TLD 25 last year after many sessions on the rocks watching what the other land based fishoes were using, got my first blue finn, 14kg, on 30lb line, the reel handled the fish with no prblem, a mate using the same reel pulled out a 26kg blue fin a few weeks earlier. What attracted me also to the TLD 25 was the amount of line i could store incase something wanted to keep running. For $170, im pretty happy. Cheers Veck

i can relate to your water police situation at the gong, gone out about 6 times around there and made contact with the police on most trips. i was sarting to think they were targeting me, or i was doing somerthing wrong to attract so much attention. i to was asked to produce maps, safety equip and the such. These contacts have meant that i purchased everything a need to avoid future fines.
  4. Dear Fishoes I was out fishing in Botany Bay last Saturday. Headed to my spot near the heads, anchored and started to burley up. Not 30min later the wind picked up and I couldn’t find anchor so I decided to go somewhere shelted, I was also being blown out to sea. After spending some time trying to start my motor, which had flooded, I began to WORRY. Fortunately a fellow fisho came to my assistance and started to tow me back into the bay. Could have been dangerous, mobile was at home and I couldn't get any help from my UHF radio. I didn’t get the name of the bloke who helped out but if your out there, many thanks. It sure reinforces to me the importance of fishoes looking out for each other especially when in harms way.
  5. The report was on 2UE yesterday
  6. Dear Fishoes Heard on the news today fisheries are placing large stone balls in groups around Botany to create artificial reefs and inturn increase various fish stocks. Considering the depths of Botany I hope they don’t create boating hazards. In any case looks like some of our fishing licence money is going to a good cause.
  7. Greetings Craig Went fishing out that way 2 weeks ago, got a legal flattie and a 3kg salmon. Both on pillie and gang good luck
  8. Went fishing with my 7 year old son yesterday. We caught 2 flatties around 40cm and 4 slimies. Son had a ball catching the slimies, couldn,t get the smile of his face all day.
  9. is this the boat ramp under the bridge or the one further in town ? sorry to here about the break in. I to have had my windows broken for some small change. fisherman due to the nature of our sport are easy targets. not sure what can be done to improve the safety of our items
  10. what a great way to end the week, hope to be out there on sunday. well done mate
  11. Greetings Fishoes Went out this morning and headed for Port Hacking heads, managed to get 3 Kings ranging from 65 - 75cm. And a good size snapper. They seem to be feeding at the bottom. Caught all three on squid between 5-6.30am. The other boats around me were also catching the same size fish. Leads me to believe that they have been targeting the same place for some time. I was fortunate to see their rods bending, this alerted me to the feeding frenzy. Got some dirty looks from the other boats, tuff luck fellas, now you can look forward to the fishraiders breathing down your necks as well.. All the best fellas
  12. all the info above seems spot on, however i like running the sinker down to the hook, with a beed seperating the sinker and hook.I find this helps with the tangles and is less labour intensive. Also keep inmind the fish arn't always very far of, i have done some of my best fishing in waiste deep water. Good luck
  13. great story mate enjoyed the read

Greetings I place all the guts and left overs from the fish in a ice cream container and then freeze it. On the boat i place the frozen stuff in a keepers net and hang it over the side of the boat. Works really well with the slimies and other bait fish. And doesn cost you a cent. P.S. Dont tell the miss that your placing guts in the fridge. All the best.
  15. thanks for the advice, i have all the gear so if your heading that way give me a yell and we can team up. Cheers Veck
  16. THERE IS ANOTHIER SPOT WITH A SANDY FLOOR ABOUT 50MIN SOUTH FROM THE BUNDEENA ROCK PLATFORM. PRODUCES MOST SILVER SPECIES OF FISH. ITS JUST THE DISTANCE THAT CAN BE A CHALLENGE AT THE END OF THE DAY. SEE YOU HANGING FROM A ROCK.
  17. Im just using 40lt plastic container that you can buy from bunnings. Also buy yourself an air-rator that can be conected to your battery, and off you go. Cheap and effective. all the best
  18. Greetings Fishoes Abseiled down a 30 meter ledge on Sunday to this rock platform in the royal national park near Bundeena. The decent was a rush especially at 5.30am, in the background the early morning rays filtered down, it was majestic. The three of us brought an array of bait to cater for the pickiest of pallets. Unfortunately this unexplored rock platform was surrounded by corral on all sides. We managed to catch a huge array of coloured specimens from parrot to rock cod, shark, sergeant bakers, and other unknown types. With the coral came the endless snags and a huge drain on our tackle, wish we had brought some floats. All in all it was a great day, the climb back up the cliff was an experience, physically exhausted, both my arms and legs were throbbing in pain, but damn did I feel alive when a reached the top of the cliff. I saw a fishing video about 5 years ago about some abseiling fishermen who explored virgin territory. It was called extreme fishing and based around cliffs in Sydney. If you can find the video its a gem and has strongly influenced what my mates and I have been doing for the last few years. p.s. we tried cooking some of these coloured species when we got home and they tasted crap. I would be interested in knowing if any other fishoes have been incorporating abseiling into their fishing adventures and what success they have had.
  19. That’s ambitious, I thought the only remaining species of fish in the Hawkesbury was the catfish.

    Jew By Night

dear skeptic, the caught fish is short of a meter and the other i estimate was around 50-70cm longer but a lot wider.

    Jew By Night

Greetings Fishoes Went fishing last night of a beach at the Gong. As I was walking along the beach looking for a gutter I cam across an old fella who claimed he was having a quiet night. Im confident beach fishing after a wet and I wasn’t disappointed. My 15 pound line got cut off twice before I modified to a 50 pound trace. Within 30min I had my first run. Took me close to 15 min to get the Jew out. I was jumping around and shouting with excitement as I hadn’t claimed a decent Jew for some years (4.8 kg). Actually not since I last fished the same beach. I spent the next 20 min picking up the fish, smoking cigs and convincing myself that I was some great white hunter. Damn I enjoyed hearing the Jew slapping the beach with its tail. Once the excitement settled and I composed myself I re-rigged and sent the line out on another mission. At this stage I didn’t give a rats arse if another fish was going to be caught. I had only finished tightening the line when the rod bent over again. This time the drag went crazy, I started to think I was going to run out of line. I convinced myself that it was probably a shark as it was a hell of a lot heavier then the last fish. I estimate it took me close to 30min to bring the fish close to shore, however it felt more like an hour. As the fish came closer I started to walk into the water, as I couldn’t beach it, it was just too heavy. To my astonishment it was another Jew, this time it was almost twice the size. I started to panic, as I couldn’t pull the damn thing out so I walked into deeper water thinking I could grab it under the gills and haul it out. I had this massive Jew right next to me, I attempted to grab it but fumbled, and in my excitement I failed to see the next set of waves. I got smashed by a wave, fell over and just managed to hold onto my rod. When I stood up the tension was gone and so was the Jew of my dreams. Wet and cold I decided to call it a day. On my way back to the car park I passed the old fisho again and showed him my fish with some confidence. We had a little chat and then he said, “ let me show you something”. In a heshen bag hidden under the sand was a massive Jew. I mean this thing made mine look juvenile in size, it was similar to the one I had just missed around the 8-9 kg mark. The old fella looked 70+ and somehow managed to haul this monster out. Made me realise it takes more than strength to drag a fish like this out. If I weren’t so cold and wet I would have like to get a few pointers from this fine old fisho. Feeling damn tied today a work, coupled with a head cold, but am still smiling and cant wait for another night session down the Gong. How would other fishoes negotiate the capture of such a fish ? And don’t tell me you would walk in the water and wrestle it out.
  23. greetings fishoes I have been observing behavioral patterns that lead me to consider a link between depression and a lack of social opportunities. I have qualifications and experience, my readings suggest a possible correlation between isolation (fishing) and depression, and the self medicating aspect of this condition. This is obviously not a reflection of the vast majority of fishoes, however those that fit this description are near to most. I have worked in the area of mental health and D&A for a long time and seen a few people fall that would have benefited from friendly support. I hope all fishoes (mates) look out for their buddies and contact local community centres when they need some HELP. REGARDS Veck
  24. fishoes can be a funny mob. They can bag out and still tell you it was a quiet day.
  25. I would start by going to the Sydney aquarium followed by the cinemas to see a re run of finding Nemo. Take it from a married man, you don’t want to confuse the girl. Once you cross those pleasure activity boundaries there is no coming back. If not careful you might end up with a chemically sharpened hook in your mouth being skull dragged on 50lbs line. Also be aware that women generally don’t release their catches, their funny that way.
