    Chicks On Boats

  4. I thought the money we paid for our fishing licences was to buy our the pros, and inturn allow local stock to rebuild. I feel sick in the stomach when i go the fishmongers and see boxes of undersize breams, snapper and other species selling for close to nothing . Fish as resource is undervalued, no different to our water supply. Once its given a true value, the protection will come. Lets hope we can take our kids fishing and see them pull up more than a plastic bag. It would be great if the fishing community could unite. There seems like there is a lot of passion and energy amongst the fishraiders.
  5. Dear Fishoes Of late I have been faced with a disturbing trend. Mates on two occasions have attempted to bring their girlfriend/wife along on a boating fishing trip. I have a simple rule on my boat, no women when it come to serious fishing outings. After waiting and planning for a week, the last thing I want on my boat is the relentless cursed chatter, can you tie this, I think our lines are tied or can you put on my bait. Lets not to mention how the conversation changes when women a present. And how it affects alcohol consumption and the urinating over the side. “Don’t drink so much” or “you’re filthy” This wouldn’t be an issue except those mates that I have spelled out the rules to have now become distant and pissed off. To avoid sounding like a chauvinist pig, what do other boat owners do in these circumstances?
  6. two of the breams were caught on squid, the others on nippers including the whitting. there were so many pickers that day, that the squid was the only bait that lasted more than a few moments, i guess thats the downside of creating a burley trail.
  7. Greetings Fishos Thanks to all those who provided info on the pottie mullets. I was hoping to fish bait bay on Sunday but the winds changed that plan. So Peter and i headed for south west arm, stocked with attitude, squid and live nippers. We purchased a kilo of cooked tiger prawn that worked a treat as b/fast and the left overs doubled as an excellent berly trail. Not long after arriving at the spot the sonar started beeping, indicating schools of fish under the boat. The first two hours was spent catching small snapper , trevs and bream, peter drew first blood with a good sized whitting. As the weather conditions deteriated the fish being caught increased in size. In the following 90min we caught 5 breams. The largest blue nose measuring 42cm closely followed by a 40 cm thumper. The other three were between 35cm and 38cm. Once i purchase my VHF radio, the next toy will be a digital camera, to prove these arn't fish tails. How did everyone else go on the weekend ?
  8. Greetings Fishos I live along the Georges River and often see schools of potty mullets swiming in the creeks that feed into the Georges. I purchased a few plastic see through traps the other week and have been leaving them in the local creeks all week , with bread in the traps. I have thus far caught zip. Has anyone out there had luck in catching this great bait ? and if so how ? Also, what is the best way to keep them alive ? P.S. Best luck over the weekend fellas.
  9. Well done mate After last weekends strong winds and poor fishing conditions, looking forward to landing a few flatties myself this Sunday.
  10. Heading for bait bay this Sunday, can almost smell the salt water now, probaly around 5am, been getting some impressive catches on the drift over the last few months, enough flatties and jackets for everyone. If you head out there try to stay between 13 - 16 meters infront of the beaches. Nippers go well and so do the pillie tails. Looking forward to some crummbed flattie fillets on the BBQ Sunday arvo with a beer .

    Boat Radios

Greetings Fishos I was told by a mate recently that the emergency services are going to stop recieving/listening to 27mhz radios, that they are only going to scan for VHF & UHF frequencies. I have been shoping around for a radio and i am getting mixed messages from boating shops, it appears they are more interested in flogging off there gear than giving me some accurate info. I contacted water police and patrol, they have indicated i would be best served if i purchased a VHF frequency radio just to be safe. does anyone know more about this ? or recomend a course of action ?
  13. it would be close between nippers and pillie. Everything eats the pillie and allmost ensures a catch if the fish are bitting. And there are so many ways to hook a pillie, tail, chunks, on gangies they are also great to burly with .
  14. i have been checked twice in the last year, once i didn't have a licence and got fined while fishing in Botany, the second time at Georges river i had my licence. p.s. i dont have to many friends who havent either been fined or checked. as much as i hate paying for the licence i aint going to risk another fine.

    Flatty Fever

Hi Philip, kept all the legals, still have some in the fridge and gave some to my parents. Can't believe how nice the leather jackets were.
  17. Greetings All Went fishing on the 4th Sept out infront of Cronulla, arrived at around 5am and drifted between north and south cronulla trying to stay between the depths of 13 - 16 meters. Between myself and Peter we caught 23 legal flatties, a flounder and 7 leather jackets on pillies and nippers. Unfortunatly we didnt catch any monsters however the action was consistent. This is the third time we have done the same drift over the last month, and had similar results. The leather jackets can be damaging, biting the line almost from the time it enters the water, be ready for some serious tackle loss but the results have been great. Will be heading out there again on the 18th in a 420 savage. Call out if you got this message. Hope to invest in a camera soon and display the catches.
