  1. Hi all, I am up in Queensland for a long awaited holiay for the week and went out for a days offshore fishing. WE left at 5 30 and back at 4 on a nice catamaran with twin 250hp. We went out and floated some pilchards out and i pulled in a 117 cm mackeral, my first ever and so so much fun ,and gret fighting also. then we went out to some reefs and pulled in heaps of tailor and trevally, my best tailor was 54cm which was fun. Also pulled in a one metre reef shark and they are very fun and fight very well. I am, hopefully going on another charter (recommended by Jewnut) i will post pics next week, Cheers All

Hey mate, I have caught a few kingies lately around north head, i troll 5 inch minnows deep diving and have had solid hook ups around North Head and Bluefish Point with also salmon hook ups. I also hooked onto a few in a school near north head last week just castiong small metal lures at them but they were good size and buste d me off, they were there early but then went I agree with the trolling, i have a had a lot of success doing it this way, and a lot of fun. Good luck tomorrow mate, if nothing is on fish bluefish point, some good trevally around there still.
  3. Ripper fish mate, heading out early tomorrow morning, if the kingies arent on i might give them ago, bigger than my best bream by far, Top effort
  4. to the site, I was using one 5inch metal slice and a two inch metal slice, dobroyd head is infested with tailor at the moment, good fun. Any thing metal works, the soft plastics do to but they will rip them to absolute shreds with a touch of those teeth. try there next time. Good luck
  5. Hey Bung, They have had forecasts for storms quite a bit lately and a lot have been right but last night it was for isolated drizzlewit hthe chance of a storm in the west. It rained so hard you could hardly see and the lightning and thunder was every two seconds, i meant that when there is going to be a big storm they usually put out a metropolitan storm warning which wasnt there. But then again this weather lately has been very spontanious and i guess it was not too hard to tell by looking at the skies, but after 10 hours of work i was probably blinded by the excitement of a fish, Cheers
  6. Took the boat out yesterday arvo with my mate after work. The reports said moderate wind but we thought it would be fine, However once we got there we were greated by a howling relentless north easter so the idea of getting kingfish at wedding cake island flopped over and we went for a drift. We were using my favourite anchovees for bait and pulled up heaps of little snapper and flatheads and then my mate lost a ripper tailor right near the boat with a net 5cm away from him, it would have been an easy 55cm. then we went for a troll around dobroyd head for a million little tailor whic hwas lots of fun. My friend omce again hooked onto two really nice tailor and one which would have been 60cm on a 5inch metal slug. It did a huge jump in grabbing distance and we could see the hooks dislodge right in our faces, then the other two biggies were lost near the boat, the ones we landed were in between 25 to 35 cm but at that size we just let them all go. then we went to the spit at about 9ish and we had just started the drift when in one second the temperature dropped a good 8degrees, it was so crazy and we were both like hmmm, we lookedcastle cove way to notice bolt after bolt of lightning and so we decided to speed away as fast as the 30hp would take us only to be greated by torrential rain one second later and the tinnie and us copped it all. Getting the boat on the trailer was interesting in 2m visibility at roseville, then ddriving was even more interesting with almost no visibility, we were all going 35 over the roseville bridge which is an 80 zone. All in all an interesting time. I hope to go out after work again today but i am gonna check the weather a little bit closer. The Bureau of meteorology has proven itself wrong day after day lately, especially with the storms. Cheers
  7. Hey mate, no i havent, were i was fishing it ws about 70 feet deep with a really strong current so by the time the bait with a big sinker got down it was already 20m to one side the boat whcih ruled sp's out (i think) Othger than salmon i havent caught anything on sp's, i have tried to no success with them i really need to try them more often with all these reports. I might have to catch up with someone who knows for a land based session some time because some of the fish you are catching on sp's sound very nice.
  8. Hi All, I am off to paradise waters ( near surfers paradise) for the week next week for a relaxing holiday and i was just wondering if someone could recommend a charter for some deep sea fishing for half or a whole day. Last time i went i went on one which was good fun but i have no idea who it was as it was a few years back. Thanks
  9. Hey Mate, Dont worry i was in the same boat as you, I went to chatswood bait and tackle in the morning and said wats good for flatties and he went over and plonked them in front of me, i didnt know either, they are like blue bait only bigger, about 3 or 4 inches long, go to your local tackle shop and ask them because they really did work on every drop down!!! good luck
  10. Hi All, Went out after work on saturday to try for some kingies because that beautiful sun came out, However when we got to the heads the North East wind was relentless making it hard to troll so i we just went up and down from north head to the yellow marker, Unfortunately no Kingies but picked up a woppa salmon, and also got a bit keen and snagged my favourite deep diving lure when i went a bit too close to the rocks Then i went for a drift and picked up a heap of flathead on anchovies between the heads however mainly undersized and all released however they did scoff the anchovies the second it touched the bottom. We also got a tropical looking flathead( i think) which had cool wings looking things on it. Anyways cant wait for the winds to ease, its good to see the rain though!!!
  11. WOW, Well done mate it sounds like u must have had a fantastic time, I went out also and only caught a salmon and some flatheads, I wish i had thought of going down to the wedding cake marker!!!!
  12. Hi Phill, What a great effort!!!! If you go out often on Firdays we should try to go out one morning on the one boat instead of both going out solo we can just take one boat which would cut costs and probably be a lot easier than navigating a boat and pulling in fish solo. Once again Top Effort Mate!!!
  13. Hey Phill I think i may have seen u trolling out past north head in the morning. It was a newish centre console boat. Maybe the school was Kingies, it would explain why they were so timid and it was right near were i got my first one Hmmm i will have to pay more attention to the suface activity next time It was hard to tell though with all the ripples from the wind.
  14. Hey Phill, You were not on a boat with a red top on it. The only boats your size was one with a red top or a green with double engines one or a big greyish one ( i am not familiar with all the names of the types of boats) with double engines, Did u pick up 5 kingies, Thats a very good effort, And the kingie is going on the BBQ tonight with the family. The way these small ones fight i cant imagine how exciting a 75cm plus kingie would be. If this southerly coming through tomorrow isnt to strong i might try again early sunday. There was also a big school of salmon out the heads which no one seemed to bother with. Go the discount bin
  15. Good Morning All, Hit the roseville ramp at 4 30 this morning and headed out to the heads. I have never caught a kingie before ( have lost 2) and so last night i went Chatswood bait and tackle and asked what lure i should use for trolling, I picked up a blue and yellow deep diving lure (roughly 5inches) from the reject bin of lures and was told to troll from the Yellow marker around the heads and to Bluefish. So i started trolling and just near north head i saw a boat hooking into some tailor so i thought i would give it a go and started winding in the lure when the rod just stopped, i thought it was snagged untill this thing started charging around like a madman, After a short fight falling all over the boat because i was the only one in it and its only a 4.6m tinnie in the swell i finally landed my first Kingfish, of 62cm, Then kept on trolling around to bluefish, i did a circle then started heading back when BANG off the real goes and i fly to the back of the boat and grab the rod, after a nice little fight i landed a beautiful 68cm Kingie , i was so stoked, then kept trolling back in as petrol was low so i couldnt do too many loops at bluefish. I saw the rod was flicking around a bit so wound it in and there was a 48 cm Srgnt Baker. On the way back the boat was rocking around a lot and i picked up the big fish to put him up in the esky when a wave hit and the fish went bye bye and fell back into the big blue sea but Oh well i didnt mind i was just happy to have caught my first kingies. And hopefully it grows into a big one for next time!!! so i can confrim the kingies are in Sydney Harbour (and that they are topt top fun to catch) Good luck to all over the weekend
  16. Hi All, got the day off tomorrow and im going for a fish tomorrow morning in Sydney Harbour at about 4 30am from Roseville to middayish, just wondering if any of you guys might be heading out also, I am going to chase some Kingfish hopefully otherwise Flathead or even a late Salmon just for fun. Hope to see some fellow Fishraiders out and about, I saw someone driving in around cammeray yesterday in a silverish small car with a fishraider sticker on the back, just wondering who it was!!.
  17. Good morning all! Up at 4 15 yesterday morning and on the water at 4 45 in roseville. Put the lure out for the first 4 knot run and picked up a nice tailor. The wind was up so we were hoping it wouldnt be too bad out in the heads. When we got there the wind was still gusty so we decided to go around to bluefish point. On the way we noticed a school of salmon working quite close to the rocks so as my mate sped over i attempted to get the stick baits on. When we got there it had thinned out and my friends line tangled and couldnt cast. I had put the lure on the 8kg line unfortunately and cast it out and straight away bang a big salmon jumped and gulped my stickbait. after a nice aerial fight wit hsome great jumps i finally got it to the boat to make 13 landed in two weeks ( mainly released) and a lot lost. It is interesting trying different line wieghts on the salmon but it is far far better on the 2 to 4kg line rather than 8. Then we went to bluefish and i caught a nice little pike on the metal slug. Put him on as live bait in the hope of a kingie but not even a bit of mvement. On the prawns and pilchards we picked up some small annoying reefies and then a nice snapper measuring 40cm. Then we went to the yellow marker and the wind was gone and we got some nice trevallys up to 45cm. The two boats around us both pulled in a nice bream at the same time. On the way back i decided to put the new lure out that had caught the tailor and pike and then this guy on his huge boat chatting merryly on his mobile almost hit us after he veered over towards us and then run over the line and snapped it . So all in all a fun day with a nice little feed. It seems like the salmon schools are becoming less common but it seems the tailor are back in the numbers in the early morning and at night. All the salmon are caught on fluerescent green and white stick baits. Have a great weekend everyone
  18. Hey guys thanks heaps for your replies, it is really helpful, my boat is a 15ft 30hp engine, i dont have gps i just rely on the fishfinder, Lets hope for some small swell, Cheers Guys
  19. Hi All, I am planning a fish out at longie this weekend of the boat hopefully friday or maybe sunday and i havent been there before, Just a few quick questions and any help would be really appreciated. 1. How far off Long Reef Headland can you fish because of the no fishing zone i think is around it. 2. What depth should i be looking at for schnapper or kingies, is it mainly reef or is there gravel grounds. 3. Is it safe to launch the boat at the boat ramp around the corner, i thinks its on brownwater or fishermans beach, and if not would the harbour be the best place, and last of all the best baits , i would be thinking squid yakkas and pilchards. Thanks in advance guys
  20. Well done mate, lovely looking fish, I took the boat out there yesterday afternoon in that crazy wind and another boat was leaving and said they had seen kingies but hadnt had any luck. There was some big yakkas around and i caught two and put the smaller one on with no wieght and cast it out. the other one was one of the biggest yakkas i have ever caught but i let it go. The line with the yakka started peeling off and so i grabbed the rod but no fish, so i brought in the line only to see a kingfish that must have been 80cm follow it up, and pretty much winked at me and swam off, leaving half a yakka on the hook, the bit being about half a cm from the hook. but we caught some trevally in the meantime so cant complain.
  21. Sorry i meant not prepared as in with rods, i was using long white stick baits which have never failed me. but i only had the overheads which wont cast a wieghtless plastic so we used two old combos we had, we could have caught about 500 of the salmon and they stayed around but the handle snapped on my rod and when i had a fish on it and had to fight it from my hand and then i used a lighter overhead but had to use weight and only had one hook up with weight on it and they didnt like my mates blue stick bait and then we put another white one on and it worked.
  22. usually around 145 to 160 feet, around 145 was the best i rekon
  23. Hi All, After all the negative reports from last weekend i thought i would shed some light on the situation. Went fishing 500m off the heads in sydney harbour on sat of the long weekend and caught 10 morwong the biggest 3 were 46 46 and 45cm, also 2 flathead one 47 and one 43cm, also a 35 and 37cm schnapper, and one random trevally, then went to the same spot on Monday and caught 4 morwong two over 40cm, a 1.3m port jackson shark on 6kg tackle which was great fun but kinda hectic trying to bring up this crazy shark without snapping the line and one more just edible flathead, over these two days we caught fish pretty much every cast but a lot of leatherjacket baby flathead and sergeant baker in between. Then i went out yesterday and on our way we spotted a school of salmon and caught a coupe of absolute rippers which was amazing fun on light tackle because we didnt come prepared for them. there was three schools each about the size of a football field and the salmon we caught were much bigger than the ones pulled up two weeks back. Then went for a bottom bash and caught and edible flathead schnapper and morwong. Happy Times and a great few feeds
  24. I am thinking that i might take the boat to pittwater as i have only ever taken it from Roseville and then try to get some tailor trolling as long as the wind doesnt go crazy on us
