  1. Great story mate. I can just see you grinning maniacally all the way to the jetty in the driving rain. Definitely will inspire the dust to be wiped off a few peoples tackle this summer. Hope there's some action left! It's almost better that you were there on your own. An even better sense of achievement I reckon as your patience paid off! I love a long session like that. Some days you get back in the car covered in bait entrails think what the fluff. Other days you're the hero. Top stuff. I salute you!
  2. Thanks for the support Mrs. Swordfisherman. Much appreciate it. Already had a couple of offers by some good spirited raiders. Ill be reciprocating for sure in the future when i get my own boat. A little way to go yet though!
  3. Hi raiders. Im a daily reader of this site although only occasional contributer. I work hard and fish w or 3 times a week. So, my father is finally visiting me from the uk for the first time in 5 years and im seeing if anyone would be kind enough to take us out on their boat whilst hes here, sometime between 9-25 feb. He brought me up fishing and ive been doing it for 20+ years incl 5 years in sydney waters, mainly landbased covering a now wide range of styles. No worries with sea legs as he was in the navy for 35 years, and i worked in the yachting industry overseas, both spending lots of time on all sizes of boats. I am really well kitted out for all sorts of fishing from egi, hard bodies & soft plastics, to livebaiting, spinning etc. Ive got some heavy duty gear like a 14000 spheros full of 50lb braid too if your chasing bigger things. We are based in clovelly in sydneys east but can get to most places in the car and are not scared of early starts at all! Would be happy to make a trip out of sydney too if someone is going out from up or down the coast. We would of course be happy to contribute to fuel/bait costs, help with wash down etc. Also happy to go ahead to get yakkas/squid! We will be doing plenty of landbased while hes here but it would make his trip and my life if we could get out on a boat a few times whilst hes here. This our first holiday alone together in my 37 years and i want to make it as good as i possibly can. If your going chasing schools of bonnies, taylor etc, snapper in the depths, kings in the harbour or markers, flatties on the flats, drifting unweighted for bream and trevally, or anything else... PM me and we can chat! Thanks in advance raiders for any acts of kindness on this one. Ben
  4. Its a cliche, but i read the fishing reports on fish raider night and day but have hardly ever posted at all. Very pleased to report i caught my first kingfish early on tuesday morning, after beginnibg my chase last summer! I Woke up at 4.30 after dreaming of fishing through the night! I just had to get down there for a flick. Seas were down to a metre at the bottom of my road in eastern subburbs so i went down to jig for fresh squid at first light. Got one first cast so sent him straight out on a 2 hook snell rig. Snapper lead to the sea floor with metre long trace the hooks sliding freely up and down. Id heard of this technique for kings with yellowtail live so hoped it would work with squid too. Wasnt happy with position but annoyingly lost the squid on my second cast!! :0 Dammit... Not another squid came to party after that so it was off to lures. Poppers, feathers, stickbaits and metals all got wet but brought no action. Went to plastics and my 2-4kilo rod with 10lb braid and fleuro. Thats what got me my only real bit of tbe day (except for a very keen seargent baker who literally jumped out of the water onto the rocks at my feet, chasing my squid jig which i brought in at high speed the last 5 metres to avoid a snag - classic!). After a VERY exhilarating 5 mins with 4 distinct runs, up comes my very first kingfish. I got sight of my first known kingie hooked up a week before on the same outfit, drifting unweighted pillies down the cubed up wash further north. I list it that time as i underestimated its last run from the surfaced and it pinged my 10lb leader. Not this time. Stayed focussed with the drag and took my time. In it came, and stayed as it had a de ebt fight and was bang on legal at 65cms!! Well chuffed!!!! Gorgeously simple sashimi, pan fried fillets, and now fins, head and carcass being reduced for french style bouillabaisse by my lovely lady. Caught mid tide, 8am ish on 4" gulp jerk shad in nuclear chicken on a 3/0 quarter ounce head in high spirits. Pics to follow when i work it out! Btw, i would have been one of the first to see the red algae bloom in the water that morning. Bright bright red. Almost looked like bloody from a whale kill or something crazy. Anyone got any experience on whether this would affect fish consumed aroud this time, or affect the likeliness of catches seeing as it was otherwise really quiet? Too late for me! I ate my fish reasoning that something that had just blown in wouldnt have had the chance to get into that level of the foodchain yet. Anyhoo... Tight lines people...
  5. Good work indeed Ricky. Its going to be hard work to top that when we go out in Sydney. Good to meet you mate. Let's do it soon... Or move to WA!
  6. Ive met those guys fishing In Yamba. 'Cookie' junior there knows how to catch Jewfish if im not mistaken! Rides a trike with rod trailer down the 1KM breakwall. Good work fellas.
  7. Hey folks, My name's Ben and I'm a 36yr old, immature Englishman who has lived in Sydney for over 4 years now. Ive fished all my life really - course fishing on the canals, beach fishing with my dad, digging worms and gathering other baits on mud flats, trout fishing in rural streams on camping holidays, and pier fishing for most of my teens. Gotten back into fishing in Oz inspired by the possibility of getting a decent feed! Land based mainly and have been learning the necessaries to chase tailor, salmon, bream, whiting and flatties. Have recently been playing around with plastics a bit more on light set ups, as well as upping the ante with some heavier gear for chasing some big fellas after a few big bust ups. I live in Clovelly in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and fish several times a week at any hour necessary when i'm not working. I'm not scared of putting the hours in of late and have been getting up at crazxy o'clock very regularly of late! I'd like to get out on a boat more and meet other like minded considerate fisherman who can show and teach me more about what can be gained from getting out on the water. I would love to think about a co-own boat not far down the track. Consider me an ongoing 'desperate and boatless' person, and PM me if you're up for a bit of help/company on your boating trip. I know my way around a boat having worked on super yachts as a deckie. I've been a regularly reader of this site but haven't interacted so much. I plan to change this to get the most out of my fishing experiences and share with others too. All the best for now folks... Ben aka TheGinjaNinja
  8. Hi Raiders, A friends birthday is coming up on the weekend of the 28th and I said i'd make some inquiries for his missus as she wants to book a trip for a group of lads to go out on a cheap and cheerful fishing trip. I only say cheap and cheerful cos as we all know, you often get what you pay for, but this is for 6-10 guys (numbers TBC) that don't normally fish a lot, or at all, who don't have a lot of money to play with. They're not looking for a 10 trip off to the shelf for big game fish!! If anyone can recommend some providers of a good all round day for these fella's i'd be most grateful. Thanks in advance, TheGinjaNinja
  9. Anyone else up for a fish this weekend, or any other weekend for that matter. Very keen, reasonably fishing savvy pom with plenty of own gear (beach/rocks/estuary) who fishes way too much on his own is looking for fishing buddies ongoing. I live inner west but often drive up to Narrabeen to the entrance, try the harbour spots (Parlsey Bay), off rocks at Tamarama/Bronte, or down in Wattamolla in Royal National Park. Looking to learn some new stuff to improve my catch rate - techniques, spots, baits, conditions. Also really keen to get out on the harbour or outside if anyone is willing to give me a go on their boat. Boat savvy having worked OS on large motor yachts as a decky (inc some sportfishing). Not too geared up for boat fishing right now but have a decent multiplier reel so just need an excuse to buy a suitable boat rod!! PM me if you fancy a wingman. I'll fish at a moments notice at the weekends and love nothing more than an early start, a night fish, or getting out to a secluded spot. Look a brother up! Cheers, Ben
  10. Morning folks. I'm heading up to the pittwater area for a shore based fish and have never been up there before. I'm thinking of going up West Head Road and trying off some of the tracks there. Can anyone receommend any spots that I can go for bream, flatties etc with a bigger rod out with pilchard or squid (or anything else you reckon) for larger friends. Any help gratefully received. I'm leaving soon so i'll keep you posted on my return. Enjoy... TheGinjaNinja
