  1. I have never caught a blackfish on weed or bread before. Normally I get them as bycatch.

Are there any decent spots along the Parramatta River where I could reliably find blackfish and have a try?

If there are any local members who would be willing to teach me I'd appreciate it.....

I have a MT4144 which would be ok for blackfish, and I have some blackfish floats here so I think I'd have the right gear.

If anybody can help or offer suggestions I'd love to hear.

In exchange I'd be happy to take you out beach/rock fishing.

  2. This may sound stupid but after looking in #### I couldn't really see any rods which would be overhead beach rods, they all looked like threadline ones.

I won't actually snap the rod though using it with an overhead will I?

  3. Whoa billfisher thats some hard core stuff.

So far I havent come accross much that can do me on 10kg line, although I have been smoked more than a few times off the rocks using 10kg.

I have considered using a Daiwa Millionaire on the beach rods but can a threadline beach rod handle an overhead reel? (i.e. is the rod going to break being bent in the opposite direction?)

  4. As the topic says, what is your beach combo?

I use two different rods, a MT4144 and an 8144.

Both are matched to 6000 size reels spooled with 10kg mono.

The 4144 is a great hand held rod, perfect from everything from bream and whiting through to salmon and tailor. The 8144 is a great rod for bigger adventures and also gets a good workout off the rocks for everything from drummer and groper to bonnies and salmon.

I normally run with a 10kg flurocarbon leader, and my favourite rig is a paternoster either single or double hook version.

  5. No problem at all. It's a wonderful little beach, can be frustrating at times due to the reef out there.

Don't forget there are great rock platforms at both ends of the beach and have had some great catches from them as well.

I am heading down this weekend again, weather dependant and will report back.

  6. Ray,

Might be time to throw on the raincoat and hit the sand.

With that wind and swell I can see alot of fish moving onto the beaches for a feed.

I fished 2 weekends ago on the sand in those 5m swells and 30knot + winds and had a great time.

  7. Just a report on Coalcliff beach the last 2 weekends.

Have had reasonable catches of bream from the northern end of the beach. Basically there is only a small area that is easily fishable, the rest is all reef.

I have managed a few luderick and some thumper boots from the reef but it isn't much fun being snagged so often.

Best bait has been mullet strips fished on a one or two hook paternoster rig with a decent size star sinker.
