  1. the point had a better wave then , the man made rock pool gives a good inner section today .
  2. I would have thought you would have more friction with a full spool of mono than a spool of braid that has lost some line . why are you getting snagged ? reds like soft bottom sand or gravel ,hard reef is not where you need to have your bait , mono or braid is not going make any different if you are getting snagged ,you need to fish grounds that have good bottom .you dont want to cast far past the hard stuff or you will get banjos and rays .
  3. use fireline ,dont try to hard late in the cast as will make the rod tip have a snaking action mixed with the spirals of line coming off the spool dont mix to well with limp braids , My set up is a certate 3500hd custom it takes just on 300 yards of 14 lbs fireline , rod is a Zziplex V max f2 ,14 foot long will cast up to 150 grams but it loves 125 grams with a clip down bait ( whole cute fish ) you can get 130 plus meters with a bit of help from offshore winds as the best reds are in close when you have the cold south westleys blowing after a big sea .
  4. nothing wrong with thredline's I use them with braid ,setup well you can fish spots that have not been fished from land before with a good cast ,since using this setup my catch rate has improved , these were caught just over 4 weeks ago on the central coast .
  5. What area are you looking at fishing as the size of the reds and the distance required will need to be taken in account to get the most out of the setup ,I use spinning reels and overheads with both doing well on different rods to suit different locations .
  6. thanks for the reply . boat harbour ,fishermans is the area Im looking at ,very good water that should hold good reds in the right conditions ,I hope that someone on this site has had a fish in that area and can add a comment or two.VGR
  7. I take it that no one has fished this area for reds ?
  8. know where and when to fish ,plan it ,bearly it up for a few days before ,thew will come in for a feed if its their regular .
  9. Hi I looking for any info I can get on Port Stevens for land based snapper fishing ,Ive heard over the years it fishes well ,any help would be great .thanks .
  10. no we were spewing that they were casting into the rip that we paddle out thru ,but that happens ,just remember to use a good shock leader so you dont crack off any leads, as this could be dangerous .
  11. 12 foot rod 50 lbs braid 4 ozs of lead you should be able to cast it at least 120 mts with no bait ,with a big bait 60 mts unless you use a clip with a sliding paternoster rig ,with it set up right you will get 100 mts , From your post I would think you are fishing the beaches on the central coast ,unless you are fishing some of the northern beaches you will get all the jews at your feet , as this is where the worms live ,use a big ball of beach worms not live worms as they just get picked apart to quick ,catch your worms and metho or salt them down ,keep them in the fridge or freezer till the night is right and you will get your jews.
  12. Peter in Brisbane Waters you have alot of spots ,first tip is wait till after october long weekend as it all starts from then .if you do fish very light with good fresh or live bait and you will get fish , some of the older locals are worth picking there brains .this time of the year you will get good whiting in most of the channels if you set up right and fish the conditions ,
