  1. Good work. What did you catch them with?
  2. Thanks for the response. I didn't think having a half cabin would be so restrictive for soft plastic fishing. I love SPs and plan to fish with them a lot, I guess if you only had a couple of anglers on the boat then a half cabin should be ok, but if you had 4-5 then it would be beneficial to have an open boat. Is that correct or is any kind of cabin a no no for SP fishing. Also in regards to the engine, If I'm considering a few older boats around 1990, and they each have different brand outboard motors, e.g. Mercury, Yamaha, Johnson and evinrude, How would you rank them in terms of reliability? Also how many hours is a lot for a boat, is < 200hrs ok, what about 300hrs? Cheers
  3. Hi Fishraiders, I am looking for a value for money rod to target kingies, around $100 or maybe up to $150 if necessary. I will be matching it with my Shimano Baitrunner 8000D, will probably be loaded with 30 or 40lb braid. It will be used for livebaiting both from a boat and land based, and also for throwing lures to kings and other pelagics. I'm unlikely to be doing any jigging. I think I need at lesat 7" length and I've already got a 6-10kg rod so i'm looking for something rated a bit stronger (possibly 10-15kg or do I need more?) Any suggestions/recomendations?
  4. Fantastic Job considering you were only using 20lb line.
  5. Congrats on your first Legal Kingie. I got my first Kingie on Saturday and I'm still buzzing. Actually got 3, one of which was legal. Cheers
  6. Where did you get this information from. I can't remember seeing any reports of a bullshark attacking a human in Sydney waters.
  7. It could have been a big groper. they often run into caves in the rocks
  8. Hi, Do you mind if I ask how you rigged up the Yakkas for the slow drifts? I'm going on Saturday and don't have a downrigger, I'm wondering whether to just hook them up and throw them in the water unweighted, or with a sinker midwater or with a float? Cheers
  9. I used to use Mono, but now I've changed to braid. I use a spinning reel and I like the ability to cast further with it. I find that if I do manage to hook a big fish and if it does manage to run me into the rocks, I get busted off whether I'm using mono or braid. I guess for livebaiting you could use mono, but you then will need a spool with big line capacity.
  10. I caught a big one on Saturday. I filleted and skinned it and made Thai Fish Cakes with it, they were great. The fish is very bland and a bit tough so you need to put lots of flavour into it. I highly recommend cutting off all of the red bits from the fillet otherwise it will taste awefull. Cheers
  11. Do you cast it out and then swim it back to you or just leave it in the water and wait for something to bite.
  12. Thanks Pete, Can you please tell me, do you use a sinker, if so what size and where do you put it? Just a running sinker to a swivel and then a leader or a paternoster rig or what? Thanks golem.
  13. Can someone who is experience here please tell me how you would rig up a livie to target flatties? Cheers
  14. Well done, you certainly know how to catch fish in the harbour.
  15. Sounds like a good morning. I take it you didn't have to go to work today? I wish I could do midweek fishing. Cheers
  16. Very well done. Did you catch them all using bait or did you try plastics at all?
  17. Mate, I know how you feel. The same thing happened to me today. I cast a small surface popper off my local rocks and it got smashed by something big. I don't know what it was but my line just started screeming off the reel. After losing about 50mtrs of line it didn't look like stopping so I started palming the reel and the ping I lost it. I can't stop thinking about what it might have been. I agree with you, first thing to do is go out and buy some better gear. Cheers
  18. Where they right in the bay or around the heads? I know there have been quite a few caught around the heads but haven't heard reports in the bay yet.
  19. Yes we were on the Bay yesterday too. The Sambos were hitting almost everything in the water. At one stage we had a triple hookup in the boat. We landed about six. It was the best day's fishing i've had in a while.
