  4. Man, i love hairtail. they got crazy teeth, easyly bite through line, need gangers or bit of thin wire trace.. but soooo nice to eat. my mum fries them up with bit of sauce so good.
  5. Hi, update since i've been going out a bloody lot but had no time to post. Friday night, hit captin cooks, got one squid, plenty of yakkas, tried for jew, nothing touching the live bait, squid got picked, put it back in and found out what picked all my squid. bloody eels. Then i put out some yakka fillets, got a decent flatty. no jew. Saturday, we finially got a chance to try out the new scotty down riggers for first time. yakkas were hard to find but we got a few (normally are plenty, weather?).. botany, we decided to try the shipping channel. kicked engine into gear. First drop. i was still trying to figure out my drag setting and Vu's line goes slack. "S**t the clip let go" he said.. followed by " F%%K!! i'm on!!" and after a pretty tough figh, we boated a very fat bonnie measuring over 60. immediately following the landing of the fish a Ferocious storm hit and we headed towards captain cooks bridge for cover as we didn't want to go home yet. downrigged with the current. got massive run on my rod, everything about the fight said jew, then ran under the boat. around the downrigger wire.. we tried to untangle but the fish took another turbo charged run and twang! nothing follows. sunday early morning. got two squid, some yakkas. went outside botany to the reefs. got one bonnie, then landed and released 4-5 rats. no keeper kings sadly.. got home for lunch. awesome 3 sesh's in a row. i'm happy as just to be able to fish that much! BTW, anyone had problem with the scotty downriggers? one of them blew its top while releasing line, and the depth counter housing cracked and is no longer counting depth. isit a build quality issue with the brand?? just asking.
  6. Nice work Trung, i don't know how you do it! i was out sat night till sunday morning, couldn't find any surface action. no bonnies, no kings. thou i had plently live bait out. trolled for a while got one hit only.. but no hook up, got my livie back with half a face, and the hook that was in it's nose hanging out... no fish plus i lost my anchor.. you the mang!
  7. top stuff, saw you at the ramp. nice setup.
  8. Hey raiders, i'm helping to organize a trip with me, my boss, and 8 other co workers. so about 10 people. maybe more if we can fit. Most probably bottom bashing as we want every one to get some action. Anyone know of a nice and roomy boat that goes to browns or something similar? or even better a private boat with a keen skipper that can take that many people out?? that would be awesome!! Cheers Leo
  9. gday raiders, just a not-so-quick post, the Jews are out there!! we launched from Oatley and headed straight for our LBG spot. managed a half dozen yakkas including 2 perfect lollipop sized ones. then headed to usual spot at captin cooks, on arrival saw a few other boats, prob chasing jew as well. i thought Nice! free burley trails. We also started a thin burely trail at 8pm and fished with pillies and live worms till about 11pm. got a massive pike which was fun on light gear and some bream, pinkies, tailor, .. all back in the drink it hit 11pm and we deployed 3 livies... after an hour or so DrDell's rod buckles over and there alot of weight on. drags being taken at a steady rate but the rod tip aint bouncing... we got a bit excited as we havn't been out for a while. and attracted a bit of attention from another boat close by.. they all turned around with disappointment when we saw color and called in a shovel nose... fished there till an hour after the tide change and pulled my line in to find that my yakka somehow got all his strength back and was vibrating like a slimey!! back in he goes.. persisted till 4am, then bored outta our minds, we called it, and started heading back. on the way back we sounded a nice drop off near baldface. we thought aye why not. give it an hour or so. and i'm glad we did. chucked in the remaining 2 livies and filleted the largest one. within 30 minutes Moppet's rod goes Bannanas!! his 4000 reel is screaming it's bloody head off while he is gradually tightening the drag. we told him to take it easy on the drag, as the whole time while he's turning the dail, the real is still screaming. i can see head shakes and is looking very promising. Moppet pulls the rod back to try and stop the train, he tightens the drag again and pop. confused i go over to Moppet and try to pull his line out... but his drag is so tight that i nearly cut my finger on the braid.. me and DrDell wanted to Moppet! we got over the loss and tried again. while discussing how we gonna split up the remaining bait DrDell's rod does something funny, bounce bounce. little run,. then ZZzzzzzz. he strikes and ON! after a very short run, We pull in our first school jew at bout 85cm. we quickly net and esky it in a rush to get our lines back out. i put on a slab, cast, 5min, run, blah blah. second Schoolie! bit smaller but still very happy. 15mins later Moppets lands a similar one! and that frown turned into a massive smile. it was like someone came and gave him a massive Hi Fives all round as we got one each. and headed home with an overfilled esky. bloody awesome night! *will post pics tomorrow morning as i didn't bring my usb cable to work..
  10. Nice one. ohh, as for wacko.. every one that can't get out due to stupid work hates you right now. sooooo much.. Bloody whale of a king alright. well done. HURRY up and post the Vid!!!!!
  11. Nice one!! that looks like a keeper, well done for also teaching the lesson of catch and release. he's already fishing like a Champ!
  12. What a stonker jew!!! would love to catch one that big one day... and would even be better if i can also do it on light gear!! Champion catch mate!!
  13. Hi Raiders, i'm going to Argenton (between Swansea and Newcastle) for work tomorrow, i only got half day worth of work so i will be bringing a couple of rods with me. Prepared to leave Sydney as early as required to get there if say the fishing is better before sunrise. Can someone please point me to a decent spot where i can target pelagics landbased on large SP/blades/slices?? or should i go the bread and butter species inside the estuary?? early as before light? or after work around midday.. ?? lures or bait? tides?? the only time i cannot be fishing is between 7am - 12noon, other wise i will make what ever effort is required to get there any other time, no matter how early. (any one keen to meet up?) All tips & hints from anyone that has fished the area will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advanced.
  14. Man nice setup on the polycraft. Nice touch daiwa sticker!! btw, what are the two brown chopping board on either side of the motor? looks like a live well underneath?
  15. Hi Raiders, last weekend, i headed out to captain cooks bridge again in search on some squid and maybe a jew. upon arrival i saw a bloke doing the same thing, flicking lures for livies and also had a larger rod in, i suspected also for jew. i said hi and started squidding. after i finally snagged a lolly-pop sized calamari, i casted him in and headed over for a chat. Turns out my suspicions are correct, we both targeting jews. as current was dragging my bait towards the pylons, the bloke very generously let me fish next to him on his side of the bridge. (Thanks again Bro!) .. and to my astonishment. i turned what was left of my squid into a just legal soapie. wasn't much of a fight as i was using my big gear and aiming large!! lol.. measured just over 60cm ?? i forgot... later we moved over to the other side as the tide turned, and the tailors were thick. we caught a few live tailor and cast them out. Ben's rod was doing all sorts of crazy shit, .... .... anyway, long story short.. he reeled in in and the tailor turned into the biggest bream i've ever seen caught! before i left found out the owner of the horse-bream is a fellow raider
  16. Noice Schnappa ! How long does snapper season go one for anyway? Oh, and if you don't mind me asking, where you out wide or close in? Sydney? Cheers
  17. Sounds like a great weekend. Man them things are so cool in a freaky way.
  18. Nice catch seems to be a few mulloway in botany. i got Soapie on squid at the bridge last night.
  19. Nice work. love your setup. would like to get into kayaking. Seems very enjoyable.
  20. enough light under the bridge to tie up a rig.
  21. Nice squid! are you gonna eat or bait?
  22. thats a long trip from me. how good isit thou, i mean if there is regular hot action, than i will be willing to make the trip. what species are available? boat only? or good/easily fished landbased? if so, same species available land based? cheers.
  23. Finished work late last night. very late. so i thought what the heck, i got all my gear in the car and some squid jigs. drove to captin cooks bridge, arrived about midnight to find a dead low tide. I set up all 3 rods that i had with different color and weighted jigs. a 3.0, 2.5 and a 2.0 on my 2-4kg.. regardless to say i got nothing for the first hour from the side with the jetty. looks like a normal squiddin session for me again. drove to other side and couple casts turned into a small squirter.. i thought i was snagged again, but nope. squirt squirt!! before i go any further, i must add that this is my FIRST EVER SQUID purposely caught with a squid jig.. so... :yahoo: is right. i was reeling it in slowly and all excited about to pull it out and blop... i was a very sad boy for the next 10mins.. then realized what i did wrong. the drag must of been too tight and during the fight, pulled the hooks to the point that the squid was only hanging on it's finger nails. loosen the drag.. and 15mins later. a 20cm model is landed. i landed one more smaller version within a few casts and i was ecstatic! (Please do not assume this is my first attempt at squidding.... it's my first success after many failures!) here i thought that i finally cracked the code. and i hear a massive splash in the water. then another. i did not see what is was but assumed it was a huge Jew chasing bait. i BOLT to my car faster that i thought possible to grad my sinkers and hooks. come back to my rods and guess what i see, Dolphins. and lots of them. playing around in the water. i tried squidding for another 30mins but the bastards shut the place down hard. still happy thou.
  24. Just to add my 1cent, if you need to long cast larger livies or heavier baits/sinkers, make sure you get a decent length rod. this will get you the distance. and also with your 50-65lb braid as Mack said, spend a little bit more to get the 'better' quality brand (go for thinnest diameter possible, so less drag in current) have a look at the Okuma X-factor rod.
