    War Movies...

i can't belive no one has said THE LIGHTHORSE MEN classic aussie war flick this would have to be one of my fave topics as not only am i ex serviceman myself but i have a bit of family tradtion as it also going back some 4 generations before me platoon odd angry shot full metal jacket apocalypes now we were soldiers enemy at the gates thin red line saveing privte ryan a bridge too far bridge over the river kwaih (sp) top gun one flew over the cuckoos nest guns of navaron kellys heros tora tora Gallipoli dirty dozern middway U571 3 kings sniper jarhead black hawk down geez i know there is still double that list but dinner is waiting one last one i know it isn't out yet and nor do i know the name of the final cut BUT a australian film companiy is makeing a film with guidance from accualy people who were there a film about the battle at LONG TAN one to keep a eye out for if you love good aussie war flicks and this one is said to be staying with the truth and unlike 'we were soldiers' it is going to try and stay away from too much hollywood glitz and specal effects
  2. well that was more than liky the worst run of luck i have ever had weekend started out ok with a little rain but nothing much the tent went up easy and everything was right saturday started out ok with us getting on the water nice and easy and everything working on the boat how it should fished the first couple of hours with no dramas and then the tiller on the electric seised up and locked into gear with out forceing it too much we tryed to get it to release and THEN POP and smoke poured out of the head of the unit untill we cut the power danm no leccy now for the weekend then to top that off as we started to drift fish a crack started to open up on the weald the joins the keel strip to the starbourd underside hull GREAT no leccy and now we are takeing on water! so now as if everything wasn't bad enoght we contuined to fish for only one fish amoung three of us in the boat needing to move around under the main motor and needing to hit the bilge pump and go for a drive every hour or so as the crack increased we did continued untill later that after noon when we tryed to do a quick repair invloveing so silastik BUT when we took the boat out some two hours later that still failed and to top it off the main battery went flat due to constaint bilge action good news for me but is that it can't get worst when your already flat on your back

    Towed Home

no excuse at all for that in my books i will tow anyone who needs it as long as it is saft to do so and if i can't then i will either get help for them or try and help out in any other way i have towed a few people over the times but it has been people who have gone and pushed off to start the motors to only find the motor dead or forgoten the key (not that i have done that on too ) when you say down stream i take it that was in the camden haven river and if so no matter what he should of towed you
  10. i don't belive the hammer head is as big as it seems to me it looks like a bit of trick photography look at the blokes arms and you can see they are fully streched out now if it was as big as they are saying you could not hold the head out that way with strght arms still i belive it was a decent size hammer but not 5 meters maybe 3.5 meters the rest of the story i have no problems beliveing so in the end it does look bloody huge but realy IMHO it is a run of the mill hammer and was attcked by a larger tiger or even two

    Towed Home

ok i had the unplesent expirance today of have some mecaniacl problems out side and as i waited and fished in a dead boat to help came i got me wondering we see it almost every week with someone haveing trouble on the water and needing a hand until now alot of the time i would think 'un-preparied' 'not looked after well' and things along that line but after today it opened my eyes to how quick something can go wrong and how helpless you can be out there when it does also how something so small can become a big problem out there so who has had to be towed home before of back to the ramp and what happined?
  14. geez i thought i had a bad day went outside today for a bit of a fish nothing flash was happing with a load of rubbish a few flattie and a couple of just leagal squire and a roaring 4knot current but the day went sour when i went to move only to find one only one but both my batterys had died tryed calling VMR but because of the low power my single was too weak for them to hear so i have to pop the smoke and flag a passing comm. boat (that was lucky) and they relayed the info for me (really own them boys a beer or too as they stayed close by untill help arrived) was the most embarassing thing that has happined and my top dollor is in a rooted altinatior sure is strange how a day can turn bad real quick one second your fishing then next you have a hook in the eye or your drifting on a dead boat
  15. yep they are still called that to me too PC has alot to answer to and i would hate to see it get into fishing blackfish are still blackfish to me and mahi mahi are still dolphin fish too ohh and a mowong is still a mother in law too last thursday i scored my first luderick on a soft plastic too went about 40cm or soo and 1kg caught on a 2" berkley shrimp in molting still swimming today arfter giveing me the fun and although it is yet another fish off the list for soft plastics for me i still am chaseing that jew fish on a softie
  16. yeh this is where i have been confused how would i find out what a area is designated i always thought if it has trout in it then it was classed a trout stream in perticaler wondering about the dorigo/ebor area stream
  17. now i'm a tad confused but however i thought all trout streams were closed at this time of year General Trout Streams Fishing season: From the start of the October long weekend to the end of the June long weekend (this means that you can commence fishing on Saturday morning and must cease fishing on Monday night). Bag limit: 5 (10 in possession) Permitted gear: One attended rod and line with no more than two hooks attached have i been doing myself out of some of the better trout fishing as i do release most of my trout either way mate i bet the trout was a backthought when hikeing around were you was
  18. they are great eating but it is a baby for the size they do reach
  19. i would be calling that a baby blue mouri or also called a purple rock cod it is still a baby and when it grows a bit bigger it will venture offshour and find a home in some 150meters of water
  20. caught and caught it was this is now going back some 20+ years and it was cuaght in one of the arms of the camden haven river to add to the twist the fish was even scaled and gutted before getting weighed and the molding from this fish is one of the most replicated fish molds in the country how do i know well i know the bloke who did the first casting before the fish was handed over to fishierys the fish castings can be seen in north haven bait and tackle betta buts port macquarie fishing tackle and fishing tackle australia (mo tackle) coffs harbour
  21. let ya know tomorrow how it tastes as yeh i too was told they are one of the better eating shark and are sure not in short supply up around here BTW i was accualy winding in the slab bait to check on it and the wobbie hit right in the surf dump seeing the teeth and where they sit i would hate to have one latch onto me yeh might need to touch up my worming skills for next time but it was sure a great start and is sure looking like it is going to be a rippa of a jewie session up on the beaches 6:30pm well i have had the first seating of the wobbie and both me and the missus agree that it is defintly up there with whitting and pearl pearch and we for one wouldn't go out and target them but we woudn't be upset if we got one as by catch from chaseing the jewies again
  22. yeh me and a mate were on one the mid norths beaches last night trying he got a nice 13kg jewie and i got a little 15kg wobbie both in the bag for a feed and chew but i was also taken twice by some big sharks too but with only useinf mono had no chance with them fellas might need to do a stockton tip and tack the 24kg game gear next time
  23. the water way was either the camden haven or the hastings or the macleay i can't remember too clearly but all three have a good population of muddies and sand crabs alike yeh i rig the bugs up on a size 2 gamma worm hook
  24. yeh the boy is always happy with anything to do with the water and the best thing about the whole lot is that he loves to eat fish
  25. went out yesterday and set a few crab pots and have a flick around started the day with mirror conditions and a nice sunrise headed the 30mins some 18km upriver to set the first couple of traps and see how the bream were going got a couple of bream on the unweighted squiddgy bug and small surface lure but all i was able to find were the small ones checked the traps for nil so back down river a bit and set the traps in spot H then ran back down river some more to set a couple of other in the main river and have another flick this timei had the 1/20 TT head and a wiggler one and proceded to find a few flathead here and there tide was at the end of the run out so checked again and nil again but that didn't suprise me considering the crabs like the tide comeing in so across to the other side of the river and uped to a 1/12th nitro and a gulp minnow in smelt found the flathead alot more willing on this appempt and found myself with 7 nice flathead in the bag for dinner and started to release them all (i only keep flathead form 40cm-60cm) was getting on by the time i did this so decided to do the long run up river to spot H again and pulled the pots up to find a nice buck and a leagal jenny back down river to pull the other pots up and bring them in for the day but managed a nice buck down river re set the pots and decided i will give them a hour and fillet the flatties while i waited (with the knife i found floating up river) pulled the pots in again without another score but a nice bag of the 7 flathead fillets and 3 crabs so far so back up river to yet again find spot H has worked for me with another two bucks so i decided i will do the right thing for the jenny and release her good day on the water again with the mid north coast produceing pic1; son and myself with the crabs and a plate full of flathead fillets pic2; sink of cooked mud crabs
