  1. Please help id this one! A friend caught it from the rocks at Evans Head over the holidays. I am thinking the drummer family but the yellow eye has me guessing. ????

    Lure Jew

Lure was a black jointed repala. 30lb sunline and 30 minute fight,i was s&%£ing bricks when he danced around the rocks.
  3. Sorry but I have to brag about this one. Wednesday night I had a quick throw with the lure for the fish pictured. For my first lure Jew this one is not bad! Location, Brunswick Heads. 17.5kgs. A big thanks to the gaff man, sorry for the late call on the wave also.
  4. Some people have the life, love your style!
  5. Hi all, i caught a big fish, 14kg 2 days ago. This was my first day real fishing since moving from Sydney to Northern NSW a year ago. As you can see they make them a little bigger up here, had so much fun! I think we boated around 20 of similar size. Also managed a good knobby on a jig. So many kings i was worn out. I was with my mate who is a pro but all fish were jigged on my own gear. Sorry but i can’t provide locations so as to protect my mates income, will have to keep you guessing. Can’t wait to christen the new tinny on the inshore reefs over xmas, Will keep you posted.
  6. Was just looking at the gps charts and estimate that i walked 23km's. This is only on a horizontal view so with all the erratic moves a fisher makes and the vertical component it have to be at least 26km's.To much ground for one day, but a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do if he is only granted one day to do it.
  7. Hi all. Have been going cold turkey waiting for the trout season to kick in, so Sunday was the day for me to try and satisfy my addiction. The day went like this, Depart Rozelle 3:30am arrive Cox’s to find the level up. Had a quick try but no joy. Plan B, TCD. Did the lap around the entire dam but nothing was doing. The strong southerly didn’t help. With no plan C it was time to explore, tried to get down to the little river in the outback and ran into the ranger. Took his advice and decided to hike down to the Jenolan River. Did i say down? I nearly turned around twice as i was knackered already. Glad i kept going though. I had one of the best sessions ever. The only downer was the walk out. 1hr to get down, 2hrs to get out. It still hurts. Home 8:30pm Took the video for something different. Enjoy Mr Rob Ps Watch out for snakes, I encountered many.
  8. Hi Dan I understand your frustrations with some aspects of this site but please post them elsewhere. In my defence, this was my first take this season. Spawning or not it is within my rights at this time of year to keep the number of fish you question. (No wrong doing here) Normally i return most of my fish to the water however on this occasion i wished to keep some for a party i was having the next day. I can assure you there was no wastage. Given the 100 or so fish i could have removed from the river this year i don’t think 4 will cause to much harm. And on that note, the Cox’s is in the best shape that i have seen for the past 20 years. Me of all people have the upmost respect for this system and would do nothing to harm it. No offence taken but thought i might clear this up. Rob
  9. Last weekend i thought i had better give the Cox’s one last bash for the season. Fishing the upper reaches via private access this area is hardly touched and never lets me down. With an early start (3am) from Sydney i arrived on day brake to a drizzly day. As i went alone and having the river to myself i set of armed with fly and spin rod. I do struggle to use the fly as the spin gear is so affective. The plan was to fish the rises with fly and spin or plastic the rest. The first few ponds had me scratching my head with no signs of life at all. The next pool i almost stood on a good brown right in the shallows, he wasn’t spooked but he was not interested in anything. Following that the river came to life resulting in a good fish in every section. I did observe a few sporning couples and most of the fish seemed to be in the gravel runs. I didn’t count but would have caught no less than 15 fish of size on spin and lost the 2 biggest on the plastics. (Won’t use them again.) I really only used the fly in the open pools and managed a hand full of little ones. Still great fun to watch them take the dry as it hits the water though. I kept some for the smoker and headed home for a 5pm homecoming.
  10. Hi Adam Sorry for the late reply. To answer your question, I think the Tcurve is built for trolling. I have almost all of the saltiga rods and prefer the Tcurve for general trolling. The Tcurve is a little long for jigging but still ok if you only intend to jig every now and then. I put my set up to the test a few weeks back with a stingray the size of a car bonnet. I wes very happy with rod and reel.
  11. Look at the shimano blue water/T-Curve range. My talica 12 works great on it. I have the 15-24kg one and run 60lb braid. A very light and capable setup.
  12. Mr Rob

    birthday

Thanks Ray I was wondering if you would remember my birthday. It’s great to have a second family, even if it is in cyber space.

    Propspeed?

Come on people, I’m sure other raiders have used propspeed. Would love another opinion. Thanks For your reply Whaler 255

    Propspeed?

Hi All As you may have guest i am sick of having to go for a swim before fishing to clean the prop. Middle harbor barnacle growth rate is phenomenal. 3 weeks and i can have a ball for a propeller. So my question is, has any one used propspeed? Please don’t quote any sales pitches. i need an un bias opinion. 2nd question , where can i get it? Feedback appreciated. Rob 26foot displacement boat.
  15. Hi Stefan If blind down rigging i would set the depth at approximately one third the depth of the water. If there is alot of surface action i would bring it closer to the surface. I find it better to be above the fish than at the same level. The stretch of water you mention is a prime place to target but be ready to get on to the rod asap as the fish there go straight for the bottom. I have been blown away a few times there. If the conditions are good the gap is another good spot. It’s great fun to share the experience with the onlookers above as well. Good luck with that study Rob
  16. Hi Mick I spent some time in that area as a youngster and herd many roomers of bass and even eastern cod. The only thing we could catch were eels and cat fish. We put our kayaks in and had a good look around and from memory the fork the goes northwest ish has some great deep rocky holes that look very fishy. I always dreamt of pulling out that Cod one day. Ha Ha Even if you don’t catch a fish it is a nice place to explore and if your keen you can walk out to Heathcote.(check google earth) That cod roomer came from a local ranger about 17 years ago so you never know. I would love to know if there is any truth to this but it was always the inspiration to go a little further and put in a few more casts. Keep us posted Rob
  17. The model with the compass is 60cxs i think, and yes it will give current position and direction. For the 60cx you need to be moving to get a direction (Not that hard to do just start walking)
  18. Hi Locodave I have a Garmin 60cx, i think that is the model and it is great. They have come down in price since i got mine. I can’t tell you anything about the Lawrence. With the Garmin, in hind sight i would have purchased the one with a built in compass for marine use. You need to purchase all the additional maps though. They all add to the cost. If you already have a Garmin map for another unit you can sometimes redeem additional maps for free depending when you got them. I did this for my blue chart and city navigator. The only negative thing for marine use is the size of the screen. I use my one for everything bush walking, 4x4, street and marine navigation. Battery life is quite good also and it uses 2xAAs so you can always carry spares. If you have any other Garmin products you will find these units easy to use. Hope this helps. Rob
  19. Go to you tube and type this in. How to repair Gelcoat You should find out what you need to do or go to a well known marine shop and talk to them. They should have all you need on the shelf including red gelcoat. You won’t hit the wharf again after you take the time to fix it. One scratch = one weekend off the water.
  20. Check the pdf link below and go to 3.11 http://www.lewmar.com/cms%5Cassets%5C1%5CLiterature/B10490%20Iss2%20Pro%20Series-Fish_English.pdf
  21. I mixed it up to see what would happen with different size (150-300g)and colour jigs but whatever went down came up with a fish. Right time and place i suppose.
  22. Dont laugh, if i lay on the engine box i can peddle it.(lucky no one was out to see me proform on friday) Not so comfortable though. I am inventing a more ergonomically model. Will keep you all posted.
  23. Hi Secho Re the big orange floats, i can tell you that each would connect to 60 odd hooks and would have been down before first light. And that big fish was most likely a hapuka. Once upon a time I use to do this for a living. The bite offs were probably gem fish.
  24. Yes it is a 55 deep or something like that, the first real work out it has had. I think it was a little heavy but the fish hit the deck before the seal could get them.
  25. Yes mate it is the end of a kids bike. I cant justify the cost of an eletric reel so this is what i came up with.
