  1. Yeah, I agree fresh is better. We compared it to prawns up at Port Stephens, and we definitelt got more on the prawn. These were the cheapass prawns too! IMO, you will get as many bream on bread as you will on ultrabite instant bait, and you won't have to pay 10 bucks a pack either! If you want to add some scent, just dip the moulded bread on the hook in some tuna oil.
  2. Went down to ATB yesterday evening after work around 5:30. Started off chucking some metals, but no signs of any tailor or the like. Didn't see any bait fish either... Decided to put on a squid jig and try for a squid. Since I am a total novice to squidding, didn't think I would catch anything, but after a few casts over the weed beds (around 6:00 with heavy cloud cover) picked up my first squid, and the second followed on the next cast. Really surprised at how easy it was! Not having handled squid before, got a faceful of salt water, luckily it had inked itself out! Anyway, now have a couple of squid baits. Thought about sending one out at Bobbin head, heard there are some jew there, but it started raining... Next time I guess.

    Cowan Creek

I agree it can be a tough place to score bream while it is light. I've seen a few really big uns there (around apple tree bay) around 40cm only a few metres from shore, but they always look really nervous (the water is very clear). The only time of year I have caught decent bream during the day is from Feb to About April, when the water is warm. Apart from that, it's just those pain in the ass baby snapper. I find Cowan is a better place to chase tailor and salmon in the bays at dusk and dawn, must say, I have found them easier than the bream!
  4. Was wondering if anyone has fished Cottage Point/Cowan recently? How have things been going and what's around at the moment? Planning on taking a boat out this weekend. Will let you know how things go. Any news would be appreciated! Thanks

    Kingies

Well, I haven't fished Pittwater, but I have been up to Avoca off the rocks quite a few times. Up there, you just have to be there at the right time. Early morning is best, right after the sunrise. Sometimes you will get lucky, sometimes there won't be a single King. It's a little bit of luck off the rocks. Live yellowtail works well. If there are no baitfish, chances are there are no kings! If the yakkas are hard to catch (because of all the rubbish fish), try a whole garfish on gangs. The advantage of this is that you can fish any depth, not just several feet under a bobby cork. Huge casts aren't always necessary. All fish love structure, and the largest structure out there is the rock platform itself! Sometimes you can do everything right and there won't be anything to show for it. But persistance pays off. I've been waiting all winter to get back up to Avoca and have another crack at the Kingies! Even if you don't catch any, the morning sunrise off the rocks is something to savour!
  6. I agree with leelee about the areas to fish. If you walk down the bush trail (away from the marina), there are a lot of good places along the rocky shoreline to fish. I have fished there quite a bit and caught quite a few bream (just be careful of the sandflies). I have found that just after the high tide is the best, and all the better if there is no wind blowing. Berly will increase your catch significantly, so make the extra effort. I mostly fish about 1 1/2 m under a float and chuck small bits of bread mixed with pilchard at my float. Seems to work pretty well, and using a float saves a lot of tackle too.
  7. Fished the Berowra side of BW on Saturdan morning till just after midday. Three bream, one approaching legal size, a 20 cm tailor and small whiting on prawns. Most of the action happens just after the peak high tide. A little dissappointing, as was hoping for a few large bream. It was a little windy that day, which I have always found puts the fish off the bite at BW. The best fishing there is when the water is like glass on the outgoing tide, early in the morning. Surprisingly the little tailor seem to have buggered off, which is good news. Nothing worse than sending a bait down only to be destroyed by 10 cm tailor. Has anyone had much success at BW lately? Those who have boats, where do you go around the area? Cheers

    The Rain!

G'day Richie Depends what you want to fish for. Appletree bay is a favorite place of mine. I sometimes chase tailor and salmon (when they are around), but they seem to bugger off after the water gets a little murky. But the bream seem to be more willing to bite when there is a bit of murk in the water. I have heard that when the water is not so clear you should use a smelly bait (like pillies) as the fish rely less on sight and more on smell. Makes sense I guess... Not sure if the pelagics are back into Cowan yet. Does anyone else know? Good luck. If you go to ATB, tell us how it goes!
