  1. I fished the same tourny with Rich P. I was lucky enough to find some fish on the Saturday and thats where we headed Sunday over to Brisbane Waters. Unfortunately the tide was a lot lower and the fish made us wait but after a few frustrating moments we had our bag + a couple of upgrades. We then headed back to Pittwater looking for one big fish but twas not to be. Most of our fish were on surface plastics like ecogears and squidgy bugs. Continuing with Andrews sentiments if you have been thinking of fishing a Bream or Bass comp, give it a go. They are not for everyone and can be tedious but its a massive learning curve and if you keep your eyes and ears open you will discover a heap about bream/bass and there environment. Cheers Dave
  2. Gday Adznapper good to hear a freshwater report. I am thinking along the lines of dassazzj6 that WD-40 would not be the best for the environment. I think that lots of other things that slowly disperse and leave a trail of scent to a bait would also work, e.g. olive oil spray, and why not try stimulate ultrabite slow release spray. Cheers and good fishing Dave
  3. Thanks for the replys guys. The successfull lure was a halco laser pro, trolled nearby some seagulls in the Lili Pilli area.
  4. Fished the Hacking with my better half, and decided to troll some lures after reading Dolmo's report earlier in the week. We soon had a feisty Bonito in the net and not long after a 63cm King. How easy is this I thought? Trolled the area for a little longer but went looking for other targets, with a healthy bag of table fish already. The second part of the fishing trip involved the wily Bream, we both got a small fish each on some flats before I scored a nice one of a boat hull. Fishing nearby a marina I was absolutely monstered by a pack of Kings using a gulp sandworm, and on 4pnd leader it was a short battle. Not long after the Southerly change hit and we called it a day. Hope all the small boats made it back without getting to wet. The King and Bonito cooked up a treat. p.s. thanks for your report Dolmo Cheers Dave
  5. Sounds like a great session, you must have been happy when your drop offs produced the flatties, well done! Did you see any bait fish, last time I was there there were some large schools feeding near the ramp?
  6. I had a reasonable day. Caught about a dozen bream mainly on the surface during the mornings calm conditions, with about half being of legal size and not one flathead This was heaps better than the practice run I had a couple of weeks back where I caught only one fish on the very first cast. Plus I had dramas getting the boat back on the trailer at low tide with the winch strap breaking with only about 2 feet remaining and had to swim after the boat as she rolled effortlessly back into the drink. Luckily some generous locals help my wife and I manhandle the boat onto the trailer. Cheers Dave
  7. Definately a great place to throw some plastics, but I think being relatively small area or catchment it can be hot or cold. Just when you think you have the fish sussed they change the rules. Be sure to post your results good or bad. Cheers Dave
  8. Great topic. I have got most of my better fish on plastics including 2 species that I have not managed on bait Jewies and Estuary Perch. But some of my most memorable sessions have been on bait, in particular white bait. Plastics can be a little more hit and miss but are more specific, less pickers etc. and is great for catch & release as less chance of fish being gut hooked. I just wish they invented a lure that was as good as fresh squid for Sydney Kings, or better still sold them live at the boat ramp. Cheers Dave
  9. Yeah, congrats to the guys who caught fish and to thoose who donuted I hope you had fun. 1.16kg fish is a ripper, what type of terrain did it come from. Dam I just realised I am bloody hooked on tournament fishin... again!
  10. Fished the Hawkesbury Bream comp on Saturday. There was a great turnout with 46 boats and 83 anglers. My prefish had not been fantastic but I had a loose game plan and with the slightly more relaxed atmosphere and fishing on my own I was out to have fun. From the start I had planned to use prawn style presentations and had Squidgy Flash Prawn flick bait rigged as I headed up river to Berowra. The first run was a shallow shaded bank in an area I had not seriosly fished or been into for a long time (exploring = fun). After a few snags I finally found range and a nice bream followed the flick bait and nailed it on the pause. The tide was still on the make and decided to explore further but with little action headed back to the same section of bank. The tide was now ebbing and the first presentation is taken on the drop, another keeper. Moving furher along a couple of undersize fish grab a twithching nipper. Reworking the same area I get another keeper and another rat. Now this is really getting fun, my first limit in a non social comp( this series being a 3 bag limit) and reasonable fish as well. The rest of he day I mixed it up with old and new spots, with the action being from dead to fast but all on smaller fish and flatties. I headed to the weigh in nowing I had fun and had learned a few things. There were some great Hawkesbury Bream caught from the racks and other areas not normally associated with tournament breamin. Biggest I saw was 1.44kg from memory. Cheers Dave Ps also fished lower reaches of Cowan afterwards and only managed two small flaties.
  11. Thanks for all the comments guys. It was a great thrill. Chasing it on full leccy throttle through the moorings, was like Gamefishing, awesome fun. Still I don't think you could target a Jew in that area and have a likely chance of finding another one. It was only 4m deep in a bay with little to no current and a feature less bottom. But thats fishing always something to surprise us. Cheers Dave
  12. Caugt this jewie under a moored boat, whilst fishing a bream comp, this thing went hard from the outset. I thought it was a big stingray, my non boater called it for a king. Lure was 1/2 camo gulp worm.
  13. Thanks mate, they are a special fish. Had not targeted them purposely before but I think I will be in the future. Here is another pic of the same fish. It was caught at the mouth of berowra with the boat in about 13m of water casting towards rocky shoreline.
  14. Fished Berowra Saturday afternoon, and started fishing shaded shore line as it was still dam hot. Driven totally mad by choppers, pulled hooks and my lack of competence. With grace and poise/full throttle maniac headed off to fish the remants of some racks. A tricky cross wind and furher crap casting resulted in one very snagged lure and further frustration. Finally found a decent bream and also my first Estuary Perch on a point. It was very dark and heavily built, they sure are a unique fish. Rounded things off with a big but very lazy flattie that did not take hardly any drag on light tackle. No 10pnder, which is my goal but at 65cm it helped turn a dud session into a good one!
  15. Thanks for the encouragement Kantong, I even managed a quick sesh this afternoon on the Nepean. Not much happened with only three little bass caught on the good ship Stessl Bass Boss.
  16. Launched at Tunks after work keen to tackle something large (jew king or massive flathead, I'm not picky) but as usual stuffed around with the Breamskis for to long, and darkness fell cutting down my options. Fished any where lights were illuminating the water with things turning out to be very patchy. Most spots were quiet but two fired up with one small jetty light proving popular with 3 legal flatties. This is the first time this technique has worked for me after reading articles by Jamie Robley it was a good goal to achieve. No pics in any of theese reports as I am that keen on just fishing at the moment after a bit of a lay off. Cheers Dave
  17. Fished Cowan on Saturday Afternoon 14th, after it had cooled down a little. The Bream were no where to be seen in the shallows so a magor move was called for. It paid off with baitfish and predators found off the deeper points. Straight off the bat two healthy little flatties hit the five inch gulp jerkbait one after the other. Moving further along got another solid hit on a 3" minnow, the fish not doing much untill it spotted the boat, then a short dive and a nice schoolie pops up. Theres dinner. After drifting off the spot I make another cast into the same area and the little minnow gets belted. This time there is an instant run towards structure and with as much pressure as I daired, tried to steer the fish into deeper water. It worked and as the fish headed out and undernath the boat I loosened up the drag and thought I have you now. Then the hook fell out! By the time I got my act together again it was fully dark and no more magor hookups. By the way how dark does it get up there even the boat ramp has no lights. Thanks Dave
  18. Fished the Nepaen on the Saturday of the long weekend. It was my first fishing trip in a while as I have had a lot of projects keeping me busy. It had been so long the Boat battery was flat. but I kept cool did the bait n switch with the car and away I went. There were lots of other boats out including my mate Rich P. He already had a nice bass on a spinnerbait and we both headed up river into the Gorge. I was keen to use a weedless presentation and was happy to slowly pepper any lilely spots. After 2 small fish I got a nice 30 ish cm Bass, but with the fishing slow I headed back towards the ramp. Had a little purple patch and nailed three fish in a 20m stretch the biggest in the late 30's, just as Rich P, and Andy came over to say G'day in a new skeeter, which looks an awesome fishing machine. Cheers Dave
  19. Fished Cowan after work Saturday. Only managed 1 bream and 2 tailor to take for a feed but could have had a better result if I fished a little smarter. Instead of having jewie fever and belting from one spot to the other. Plenty of bait present. Cheers Dave
  20. Hi lurespinner. I have caught only seven Jew on plastics but what I have found is that they will hit most well presented lures if they are there. The skill in Jewie fishing is finding them and then putting the lure RIGHT in front of them. 5 fish (flukes) including my biggest were on 3"minnows and bream tackle. The 2 fish that I targetted were on 4"shads and reasonably heavy jigs on 6kg spin gear. The later being just as satisfying even though the fight was not as nerve racking. SO I think my point is keep fishing hard and smart and you will get one eventually and to match your gear to the conditions not just your expectations. Cheers Dave
  21. Do you/ did you have more success on the banks or in the racks. I always preferred the racks but will have to get better fishing the banks now that healthy leases are disapearing. By the way how far south are you? If you get a chance fish Lake Wapengo heaps of racks and a creek. Fished there several years ago but was blown of the water by a big storm just as we found concentrations of fish. The ramp is shallow sand ( I was fishing from a canoe).
  22. Thanks for the tips Guys. I have just watched "Fishing Dvd Vol 2" and I think they are fishing West Reef in the Fly Fishing segment. I will go have a look at low tide me thinks
  23. Planned to fish Cowan but Pennant Hills Rd was a car park so veered of to the west and had a go IN Berowra. The conditions were great but the bites were very slow and had only a few choppers to show for our combined efforts. I hit a couple of new places and things were looking grim. I was using gulps and was thinking of a change when I got hit hard and a bream of 38cm fork was on board. I kept moving and found another good lookin area but the tide was really moving there. So as darkness approached and the crew gettin cold I went back to the successful spot and scored a beast. Sorry no measurement but it was the heaviest set bream I have taken, would have loved to get a weight on him or her, but the bream was bleeding sligtly and I popped it back quickly after some photos.
