  1. What are you fishing for? If you're flicking soft plastics for flatty and bream... i'd go with a Stradic CI4 and a 1-3Kg Pfleger trion Cheap and does the job well.
  2. Battery wasn't flat at all... seems there's a problem somewhere... I've got a line running straight from the electric motor straight to the battery, the guy at Neptune Marine said that it wouldn't be a drama, does anyone else have any ideas?
  3. Mate all my fish today were caught on the drift... I haven't been fishing for ages so my electric motor battery went flat Looks like i'll be out there again tomorrow... hopefully it'll be just as good...
  4. Thanks to my buddy Simon that took the footage and netted the fish. Caught on Squidgy Pro Lobby in Wasabi medium. I let this one go as i'd already caught a 55cm one for lunch that is just about to go on the bbq. I'm not going to enter this in the Monthly comp because all the other lizards are bigger. Although if anything thinks i should, then let me know. i've got stills too! 6lb braid 10lb leader. 7ft trion and 2500 Ci4 stradic GREAT FUN, GOOD FIGHT.
  5. Mate i saw a few people cheering that day. I was out there fishing with my mate in my Stacer nomad... It was great conditions on saturday morning, I put my boat in the water at 0530 from the tom ugly's ramp and was surprised that i was one of the first out that morning. My watersnake is in the shop getting fixed at the moment so it was great that the tide was coming in and there wasn't much wind around. Went home at around 11am to get some sleep before the night shift... Good to sea so many fish being caught. I must admit though, i'd prefer to see that big one go back in. But at the end of the day everyone's allowed one over 70cm aren't they. Well done on a good day's fishing.
  6. Great catch on the light gear... You must really love the sound of your drag. Towra's turning into a never fail option for me lately. Went out early on Saturday morning and picked up a few live yakka's drifted around the cans and further out near the heads with no luck so headed to towra for a spin... Picked up 3 nice flatties all in the high 40's. I'd been snagged at one stag and tightened the drag to help free up my jig head... Forget to loosen it back off and sure as sh#@ lost what looked to be a pb flatty. (high 60's). I don't remember the last time i swore that much. Mum would've run out of soap! I'll never do that again. Hot tip... just find a cormorant and you'll find a fish
  7. Mik01 did they model this emoticon on you? I mean fair dinkum, how can you claim half a man's boat?
  8. Note to all fishraiders... Don't encourage your significant other to join fishraider... As you can see from the above post ^^^^^^^ it will leave you open to copping grief on the internet as well as at home...
  9. I normally fishing in Botany Bay, but am looking to go further afield. Just wondering if any of the ramps mentioned in the Sydney Harbour section have taps available for flushing engines out. I live in an apartment so it's essential i use a ramp that has a tap for flushing. I like to keep my engine in great condition so i can be honest if i ever sell it. I know the northbridge thread mention running water for fish cleaning, but wasn't sure about flushing bay.
  10. "Take two" "The Alias" "Changed by Deed Pol" (might need a longer boat for that one) "2nd time lucky"
  11. i went and had a look at the the lox range at my local fishing store this arvo on the way home. they had a 1-3kg rod there, but i couldn't find the length on it, it only looked around 7ft. Didn't like the handle. I've mentioned it before but i really enjoy rods that are comfortable to hold while fishing. Something that i find absolutely outstanding about my Pflueger Trion. I checked out the shimano Jewel 762 1-4kg and although i've never been drawn to EVA grips, i'd give this one a shot, might not have been the most expensive rod on the rack but looked like it would do the job well. Didn't mind the handle on the Raider II rods either. I really liked the handle on the old t-curve flight 1-4 662. I know there's alot more to fishing rods than a comfy handle, but there's no way i'm going to spend money on something that i'm not going to enjoy fishing with. Think i'll try going with lighter braid on a spare spool first before i start changing around all my tackle just for a couple of metres of extra casting length.
  12. Thanks for the tips boys. I was going to mention that the 6lb fireline i have is actually crystal, but i doubt it would make much difference. Mik01 just moved in, so i'm going through the process of selling my 2 and 3 seater lounges... As soon as they're sold i'll use the proceeds to fund more fishing gear on the sly I'm really impressed with the 2-4kg trion, so will try: 1-3kg 7ft trion Stradic CI4 2500 and 2lb Fireline Crystal. Don't think i'm going to bother with the 1000, as the 2500 is so light it will feel the same as a much smaller reel. Does anyone have any suggestions on a 7'6 1-3kg rod that's similar value for money to the Trion's, I've got a 722 Starlo stix 2-4kg but don't like the length of the cork handle. I like the handle on the trion because it's all cork. I don't see the point in the cork handles if you've got a hand full of plastic reel guide while fishing... Seriously who designs this s#@t?
  13. Great reports mate... Keep them long as possible... When i haven't been catching fish i love reading the reports on here for inspiration to keep me going during the dry patches...
  14. Thanks for the replies. I did try a hard body on Friday, but I'm not very experienced with them so there's a good chance i'm not working the lure properly. My braid isn't new, so i doubt it would the line. I might try putting 4lb braid on and see how that goes. Been keen on trying some FINS braid as my mate has some on his rod and it feels a little different. Will load up my new spool with that and use it when I'm bream fishing. Still thinking about getting super light set up for bream fishing now that it's getting warmer. Something along the lines of a 7ft 1-3kg trion, Stradic CI4 1000 loaded with 4lb braid, specifically for bream fishing. But then got thinking... the Stradic CI4 2500 (200g) weighs 10grams less than the Stradic FI 1000 (210). So after reading in another post that a general rule of thumb is 1-3kg goes with 1000, and 2-4kg goes with 2500, will i be able to find a rod that will balance up with a 1000 Stradic Ci4? With the weight difference being so dramatic, I'd (in theory) be able to use my Ci4 2500 on a 1-3kg Trion and it would balance up nicely... Too many options, this tackle bug has really bitten me... In the mean time I'll have to operate on the following principle.... "When in doubt, just forget about it all and go fishing!"
  15. I think you were right about the record You have no idea how stoked i was
  16. After reading about a 40-45 fish session in Botany Bay in another thread, I'm pretty frustrated. I fished in the same water on friday and only managed a few pike. We could see heaps of bream in the weed beds but they just wouldn't take anything. we were in about 3m of water, but it was pretty clear, so i'm convinced they could see us and were getting spooked. I'm running a 2-4kg Trion, 6lb fireline on a stradic 2500, i had a 1/8 jig head with a smaller hook on it, can't remember the size. I've been thinking about getting a 1-3kg Trion and some lighter braid. Would that help me cast further? I reckon i need about another 2-3m casting distance. Would getting Straic 1000 help with casting distance? Sorry about all the questions, still new at all this.
  17. Thanks Bloopin, I've been keeping my eye out for you in your yak over the last few sessions since you posted that footage. I always wear that Green hat, so don't be shy to wave me over for a yarn one day or if you're feeling lazy and want a tow somewhere. The Trevallies were amazing fun, best fun i've had with my pants on for a while, we've now got some nice fillets in the freezer ready for the next time we cook a fish curry. I have a soft spot for Flathead fishing so the 60cm lizard is still my favourite catch so far. I'm going to be spending a fair bit of time in the towra area over the next few outtings, not only does there seem to be plenty of fish around, but it's a beautiful part of the world too. The loves it aswell, took a few photos last time we were out. I'll get a few of them shrunk and posted. Does anyone know exactly what species that catfish is? Still haven't heard if i've qualified for the fishraider record yet, the suspense is killing me. I don't mind if i haven't, i just want to know either way! hahahaha.
  18. There are rude people everywhere... Just yesterday an 80ish old woman delivered a spectacular display of rudeness. She really spoiled the high I was one after bagging my PB flatty. I have to park my boat down the road from my house because I live in an apartment and there's no on-street parking in my cul-de-sac. When parking my tinny yesterday an extremely old women with coke-bottle glasses came running (hobbling) out of her house hurling abuse because my tinny which is parked on the opposite side of the road from her house, was apparently making it hard for her to get her car out onto the busy street. Keep in mind that a stacer 469 isn't that much bigger than a landcruiser, and the street is wide enough for me to do a full u-turn when there is no traffic. I decided to be the better person and hooked the boat back up so I could move it a little further down the road. I knocked on her door and asked if this was more to her liking. She continued to lecture me, and I ended up leaving with a very bad taste in my mouth. I fully agree with Wannabefisho Instead of just having a quiet word to me and asking me to moved it 20metres down the road to where it was in between driveways, she just started hurling abuse. I'm a very thoughtful and courteous person by nature. I was offended and angry and now have concerns for the safety of my tinny, as she repeatedly told me she was "going to do something about it", and nothing scares me more than angry old people with too much time on their hands. I'm currently looking for somewhere to move so i can house it properly. No offence, but if you're that old that you can't get your car out onto a busy and wide street, put the safety of others first and hand your license back in. Older people are forever whinging about the youth of today having no respect for fellow men and women... I think it's about time some people started looking at the example they are setting. Tight lines. Rant complete.
  19. Here's a pic of my first catfish 67cm caught at towra on Oct 19, 2010 When i saw the head come up i thought it was a massive flatty but then got really disappointed when i noticed the eel like tail. Still a good fish. Released after a few pics.
  20. Great fish Breambucket! My girl's been at me to try and catch more flounder, she loves them. You comment "for s#@ts and giggles" urged me to check out the catfish record... Looks like i've got that one in the bag now after my 67cm eeltail catfish that i caught on tuesday arvo. Hope it all gets approved, might help me impress some women at the local
  21. I know that you can customise parts of Stacer boats. So for that, get in touch with site sponsor Huett Marine. You'll need to be more specific with how you want to use the boat for anyone on here to give you any kind of advice. If you're looking for a great alround fishing boat, have a look at the anglapro range, as you can fully customise every part of the boat, except the hull design.
  22. Sounds like a dream start with a winning combo. Congrats on the fish, nothing better that getting a new PB, i've had 3 in the last 2 days, so i know how you feel. I really love my CI4. It's so much nicer to fish with than the Sedona i bought late last year. Great value for money, and excellent versatility.
  23. Here's a pic of the Catfish... Had another great arvo on the bay this arvo. Caught this 60cm flatty in the same spot that I fished yesterday. I took my friend with me today to show him where i caught the trevally and flathead... the wind was up a bit and he doesn't really like spinning when it's at all windy. First cast bang i was onto this, my PB flatty, on a 3' Minnow in nuclear chicken again. Exactly the same rig that i had yesterday. I'm pretty proud of this flatty. It's going to be my first entry into fish of the month. I can't figure out how to get the time stamp on the pic.
  24. Went for a fish after work. Boat in at 5pm Started with a troll from the sticks around past Molineaux bay and down towards the runway but realised i was running out of time. Jagged a small tailor just as i decided to leave. put it back in and headed over to towra. Picked up an undersize flounder first cast... squidgy pro wrigler with sfactor. a few casts later, undersized flathead. after not catching anything for about 15mins i changed lures to a 3inch Minnow in Nuclear chicken... things changed straight away. The wind completely died off and the water was like glass... i noticed some movement in the water and cast into it. Hooked onto a 42cm Trevally (PB). Took a picture and got the lure back into the water... a few casts later around the same spot and bag i was on again. Trevally again this time 43cm! As you can see from the pic i was pretty happy. About 5 casts after that. I picked up a nice 50cm flathead. With an empty freezer at home, I kept all three fish. Things went quiet for around 15mins then caught another 39cm flathead that i put back in It was getting dark but i couldn't leave after having so much luck. So used the electric motor to start heading back toward the tom uglies boat ramp hugging the shallows... then bang... Big wait and some head shakes. I was thinking it was a big flatty, i still haven't caught one bigger than 58cm and this felt huge... it took a bit of a run, but it didn't last long... Kind of felt like a combination of a squid and a flathead, then this thing came up... Looks like some kind of catfish that was 67cm. I was so disappointed... when the head came up i thought it was going to be about an 80cm flatty. I know there's a Fish Thread, but i'm a little short of time right now. My girlfriend met me at the ramp on the way home from work and helped me get the boat back on the ramp and get the fish cleaned up. Great afternoon. 4 nice Trevally fillets for dinner and a whole flatty for tomorrow. Forgot to take a pic of the 50cm flatty. Both trevally, 50cm flatty and Catfish type thing were all caught on the same 3'minnow in Nuclear chicken, 3g 2/0 jig head, 6lb braid, 7lb leader, 702 Pflueger Trion, Shimano Stradic CI4.
