  2. Good stuff Garth, Its good to hear that the Basin is starting to fire with the weather werming up. We fish the Basin every Xmas break & on average the fishing is excellent. We find that hawksbury prawns work a treat catching thumper bream. Just curious, where is there a reef in the Basin? Cheers, Kypreos
  3. Hi guys, Just got back from this area myself & we also caught a nice variety of fish. Most success was found in the basin near the entrance into sussex. Large prawns was the prefered bait for the fish with chicken coming in second. We managed to catch very good size bream (6-8 each time, approx size 30-40cm) every time we went out with a few flatties, flounder & small reddies in between. The suprise catches were a 35cm snapper, A very large flattie which freed itself as we got it to the boat (at least we got to see it, it head was as big as mine) & a 40cm mullet. The weather wasn't the best down there but still got out for a fish every second day. I found the fishing better lat year for some reason but I think the weather had a lot to do with it. Speaking to some of the locals they tell me there is jew fish, tailor & kingies (which I found it hard to believe) in the basin. Can anyone confirm they have caught any of these species down there? Regards, Kypreos.
  4. What & Where are the FAD's around Botany Bay?
  5. Yiasou Mr Penguin, Good to see you are picking up a few kingys on peeled prawn, what type of rig/setup r u using to catch those fish if you don't mind me asking? Cheers, Kypreos
  6. Thanks guys, We threw a fair few snapper back but they seemed to be a lot bigger than usual, I was pleasantly suprised as 2 came up on 30cm and the one than came up to 35cm had a small hump on the bridge of its nose. The flounder put up a good fight and as it hit the surface I actually thought it was a sting ray, I couldn't believe the size of it as have not seen one that big either. Botany Bay is always full of suprises.
  7. Hi Raiders, Just thought I'de add in my fishing report for our Sunday outing. We headed over to Kurnell just before day break with my brother-in-law & cousin, the boys had just come off a big night and weren't much help but good company even though one of them spent most of the morning sleeping. It wasn't a bad day overall that included 2 interesting catches being a 35cm snapper which is great to see in the Bay & a 40cm flounder. The bream we caught were also of good size & solid. All fish were caught using prawns. The weekend can't come round again soon enough. Cheers, Kypreos
  8. Hi Kevvie, Great report mate, I was down there during the Christmas break and it was sensational fishing. My parents have had a house down there for years but it was the first time we had a boat and could take advantage of the basin. We caught some beautiful bream, biggest one going 39cm, whiting, flounder, & plenty of flatties. I found that the basin was better fishing especially near the mouth where you enter the inlet and baits were the go rather than sp's. Those leatherjackets were creating a big nuiscance to us as well. No commercial fishing makes a world of difference & I hope they never spoil it by starting up again. Anyways I have attached some photos I took with my phone camera, sorry about the clarity. Cheers, Phil
  9. Hi Raiders, I am also heading down to Jervis Bay over the Chrissie break and will be taking the boat down for a bit of fishing. Does anyone have any suggestions on some fishing spots with the boat. The area seems quite resticted having viewed the map on the Marine Parks Authority web site. I plan to use the Murrays beach boat ramp as I will be staying in Sanctuary Point. Ill take any suggestions for the Basin too as I will be fishing there as well. Your help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Kypreos
  10. Well done Kevvie, I was out there on Saturday morning too, I took your advise onboard and had no success with the Burkley's really. I did manage to get the monkey off the back though by scoring a small pike near towra pt with a sp. I suppose practice makes perfect so I'll give it another go next week. In the end we anchored up in a nice little spot & switched to fresh bait in which we scored half a dozen bream so the day wasn't a total disaster. Cheers mate. Phil
