  1. The small Jewies are thick at the moment. Caught 23 in a session , all between 60 - 65cm. All released unharmed . Good fun on light gear but could do with some larger models .
  2. It's more like it wants to turn when I push the button and it starts to but then changes it's mind and does nothing .
  3. Go into the gps set up and see if it is using the same coordinate type eg. Deg min sec. Or use the coordinate converter table on this site , may be of some help
  4. I have the 70 dv Used it for the first time today in partnership with my old Garmin 178c . I was very impressed with it .
  5. Hi guys , went out on the water today only to find out that the I- pilot would not respond to "turn" commands . It would only move a few centimetres in either direction and stop. It was not stuck and the prop responds to commands and all batteries are new and charged . Has anyone had a similar issue ? Very frustrating
  6. Hi guys I have a Soron 4000 that has a sticking drag . I have not been able to get access to the washers and don't want to damage the spool getting them out. Does anyone know how to get at them? Can't see any circlip either.
  7. Hi guys , I'm looking to buy a new sounder with side scan and down scan capabilities. Budget is around $2000 / $2400 . I am leaning towards humminbird 1199 price permitting or 899si but I do like the Garmin units but need to buy the "black box" to get it to going. Lowrance units I have had trouble with in the past but the HDS 8 looks good. Who has used these units and what are your thoughts both + and - ?
  8. Thanks Mack attack, very useful info. I heard from one of the pros that the bream have moved out to spawn now so they will be scarce and in poor shape when they do return none the less I will give it a crack and see what happens, got to be better than working anyway.
  9. Hi guys, I have managed to scam an extra day off on Tuesday and would like to have a crack at fishing Pittwater. Problem is I dont know the area but have heard lots of comments about "the supermarket" cant find it on any maps. Can any one give me a tip on where it is and how to fish it? Thanx in advance.
  10. The fish busting up near the harbour bridge were rat kings.A few guys were tossing flies at them as well but they were not really in the mood to play.
  11. Also consider the SAMAKI Skitch. brilliant rod!!!
  12. Hi guys , I want to buy a Minn Kota I-pilot to suit my boat.I have a 4.80m Allycraft c/c Reef Raider which I mainly use in the Hawkesbury. I have been told by some that because of the weight and high sides of this hull that I will need to get the 80lb thrust/24volt electric. This has the disadvantage of 2x heavy batteries and extra big $$$$.Others say that I can get away with the 55lb thrust/12volt unit.I just want to be sure that if I go with the 55 it wont be overworked and a battery killer. Does anyone have a similar size boat with an electric? If so ,have you been happy with the performance or had any problems? thank you in advance.
  13. All fish seem to be around the same size.Got ours on garden worms and lures plus one that ate a corn kernel bait meant for carp.Looks good for the future anyway.
  14. Great catch, I was there also on the long w/end with our fishing club and had similar results.Weather was great eh ,wish i was still there.very nice area.
  15. hi guys, thinking of getting a side-scanning sonar like the Humminbird 798 HD SI .The images look great but dont know much about the units.Has anyone used them? or have any info which might be of interest?
  16. Nice catch, not suprised they gave you some stick using cob webs for line.
  17. in the past week I have personally seen Spanish and spotties caught, (one of the mongrels cut off my favorite trolling lure). Also Hairtail are being taken on the close in reefs ,so get stuck in before the pros get em.And plenty of small Mack Tuna in the bay .
  18. I stayed and toughed it out in the rain at Juno.Should have gone home .Jews just dont want to play there it seems.Still at least I know my bilge pump works well.
  19. If you are hooking rays, eels and sharks then the rig is working.I think you just need to work on the time and location .Keep at it the first one is always the hardest, good luck.
  20. I headed out in search of some whiting that a local mate of mine had told me about .He has been braining them lately on pieces of pipi on the edges of the channels. When I got to his place I found out that he was a little under the weather ( JACK & JIM )had got the better of him at the club the night before. So he appologized ,gave me the bait and told me the marks so I set out on my own.I did every thing exactly as instructed but after 90 minutes all I had to show for the effort were undersized snapper and toads. After hooking yet another toad I was about to interupt his hangover with a verbal blast on the phone when a rod buckled over and line screamed off the spool. After a tense fight I steered it clear of the snags and safely into the net, it was a stonker 40cm. I had second thoughts about abusing my mate as the shell berley was starting to work. No whiting but all up I landed 8 bream between 40cm and 28cm not a bad bi-catch in the end so all is forgiven.
  21. just give it a wash down with a weak solution of vinegar and water . But carpet or rubber matting is still by far the answer.
  22. DITTO , best wishes to to you and your family Byron.
