  1. As you know i went on thursday too i ended up fishing for squid on the breakwall under that big pier just before the gates at Bass Point. I ended up with 5 squid and 1 big cuttle fish and a couple of Port Jackson sharks i thru back in
  2. Hi Mate I used to live in Melbourne and during June there aint much fish swimming around down there. The only real good land based spot is called 'The Hotties' its a Power station hot water outlet at Newport which is pretty much under the western side of West Gate Bridge only 15min from the Casino. They catch Talior,Salmon,Bream,Blackfish,Mullet and pinkie snapper there You could drive 2hours to Queenscliff and Flinders or 3hours to Lorne to catch squid and barracotta. Hope that info helped
  3. Hi Raiders I seen the Daiwa Regal 4000 spin reel on sale i was thinking of buying 2 of them to use as heavy Bream/Flathead and squid out fits I dont own any Daiwa reels and was wondering whats ppl point of view of them. Ive had problems with cheap ($80 to $120 price range) reels in the past ie: line getting reeled on to the spool in a V shape and getting bad tangles after a few casts. I will be filling them 4.5kg mono line. Any comments welcome Jesus Loves You
  4. yea mate those squid skirts work real well. To rig them you put a bobby float inbetween 2 swivels of a trace 10cm or so then on your bottom swivel you tie another trace the longer the better depending on how long your rod is then put your squid on then a short piece of drinking straw then your treble hook hope that makes sence
  5. Hi All I went back to Shell Harbour Boat Harbour today to give another go after getting a good hual out of there yesterday. When i got there i started spinning with lures to catch some bait but was catching Big Fat Salmon instead i caught about 5 or so but thru them back in cus i was after bonito. After 2 hours of spinning i couldnt catch a bonito so i tried for squid it took me an hour to catch 1 tiny squid After all that effort getting bait i didnt even get a single bite all arvo fishing but at least it was a nice overcast afternoon 1 day fish every where and the next day nothing
  6. i use Shamino polarised glass which i purchased for just under a $100 i find them good value. Ive had cheap brands and expensive brands in the past but found these to be the best
  7. there was at least 100 Bonito caught between 30 odd ppl so yep there still on the bite at Bass Point. Yea Steve i caught the bonnoies on the Octopus lure they dont eat metal lures there for some reason
  8. Hi all I went for a fish today at Bass Point it was full of ppl catching Bonito so i Had a spin and picked up 6 bonito for Bait. After that i moved off to the rocks off Shell harbour boat harbour because it was so packed full of ppl at Bass point plus the swell was still up. At the end of the day i ended up catching 2 Snapper 31cm and 38cm 1 Trevally 32cm 1 leather jacket 47cm and 1 Kingfish 74cm plus a shyt load of smaller things i thru back i went thru 12 fillets of bonito for bait in 4 hours Just on dark i went to Kiama Harbour to catch some squid but when i got there i was distracted by the 2 massive Marlin getting weighed on the Weigh tower they where HUGE.
  9. what a story!!!! And i thought the lighting atracted to fishing rods was a urban myth. Thanks for posting such an interesting story Roberta
  10. Morning and evening are the best time but becareful as they have gates that close at certain times. live bait is the best which can be caught there. Yea the parking spot is at the end of the road just follow the signs once your in the state park
  11. Try a place called Snapper Rock its in a state park in the Budigewo area on the central coast ive caught some and been busted of by some massive kings when i lived up that way years ago. Fish of the southern side towards the bombies white water almost forgot you can use any style of fishing to catch them ie: Live baiting with a float or a lively anchored on the bottom or lure or plastic fishing just make sure you use some heavy line. Really any headland between sydney heads and swansea should have kingfish in the area this time of year
  12. I went for a swim off Bundenna ferry wharf on Boxing Day and seen a dozen or so legal size Kingfish around the pilons of the wharf Shame the only rod i had was a nibble tip with 6pound mono on it
  13. Try Hill60 at port kembla for spinning it is about 1hr or so away from liverpool
  14. mate try using Live yellowtail or mackerel instead of live mullet of the rocks then you might have more luck
  15. Hey All I went for fish down at Windang Island this afternoon. I got there about 3pm it was raining heavy and storming with lighting eveywhere and the swell was huge. Waves where crashing over the rocks and soaking me but i managed to find a nice high spot. i was fishing the bottom and having the occasional spin with metal lures. In the end i ended up catching a tonne of throw back snapper and trevally loosing over 10 sinkers but ended up with 1 big frigate tuna on my spin gear which is gonna be my snapper bait for my next trip hopefully it will be on sunday. If your going rock fishing tommorrow watch out the seas are big
  16. Yea ya gotta plan ya trip to Georra to meet with low tide so ya can get in and out very easy. Its a top LB spot ive caught nearly every type of species of fish of there from Kingfish and yellowfin up top to Snapper,Blue mowies and groper on the bottom but ive never stayed at night as i fish alone. I normally sleep in my Van in the carpark when it gets dark and wait till morning its 1and half hour drive from my place
  17. My Favourite day time Bream bait is Salted Tuna ie Frigates,Makerel,Bonito,Mack Tuna and Striped Tuna. You catch or buy the tuna cut of the fillets and rub salt into them then refridgerate or freeze till use. And at night i find crabs work well and keep away the Eels especially in the Upper Reaches of the Geogres River
  18. Personally ive had problems with the Sedona range they dont lay the line properly and get major tangles. Maybe its the Fishamen and not the reals fault
  19. Thanks for the all Replys i think ill make my own snapper leads and buy my smaller ball sinkers from the advice you blokes have given me. ill look into how much a kilo of lead from the scrap dealer will cost me and go from there
  20. kel ive used the Hino squid jigs in the darker colours and caught squid on them but i still think the old yo-zuri jigs i have in my box seem to work better Ya best bet is to buy just 1 hino jig and give it ago
  21. Hi Raiders I buy all my sinkers from a tackle store and i was just wondering whether it is cheaper to purchase them from a shop already made as i do or go to a scrap dealer and make my own sinkers up at home? I only really use 3 and 4 ounce snapper (bomb) sinkers for LB snapper fishing and size 0 to 4 ball sinkers for drummer/bream rock fishing and general river fishing. All comments and point of views on this subject are welcome Jesus Loves You xox
  22. Hi Raiders I brought myself a brand new Okuma V-series 65sa High speed spinning real about 2weeks. I took it out for a spin of coalcliff last week in the afternoon and on the first cast i noticed how slow the lure was tracking thru the water so i casted out again and wound in as fast as i could go but still the lure was moving pretty slow. I walked back to my gear and thought to myself something is seriously wrong here so i decided to check the gear ratio and to my amazment it was only 2/3rds the ratio it was surpposed to be. The gear ratio marked on the reals spool and box was 6:2:1 and measured it out to be 4:7:1 so i took it back to the tackle shop where i brought it. They where very stunned when i showed them that the gear ratio was wrong they where very helpful and they rang up Okuma. Okuma said they will fix my real but it looks like a whole batch of V-series 65sa where produced with the wrong gear ratio so if you buy this product just check the gear ratio is correct berfore you leave the tackle shop!!!!!
