  3. Hi all, A little late however a mate and I fished the Hawkesbury on Saturday and once again managed a few fish taking the record to approx 12 Hawkesbury outings in a row where fish have been caught. Surprisingly we caught 2 bream and flathead at night while trying to catch bait just around the corner from Brooklyn ramp. As the sun was coming up we decided to fish flint and steel on the run out tide, we did reasonably well there considering the first 4 baits that were dropped magically transformed into the following: - eel - stingray - eel - port Jackson It was at this point we questioned whether we made the right decision "should we have stayed in bed". Being ones not to dwell the call was made " one more pest and we are packing it up " then bang, bang, bang, bang the bream were on. We threw back a few keepers as we generally only keep enough for a feed for 2 families. As the tide began to run harder the dreaded Hawkesbury half spin began. So after and hour of untangling lines and re rigging snags we decided to change spots. We now found ourself facing directly at Juno point first bait down BANG a nice 40cm break comes up the next hour or so was pretty hektik fishing 4lb we got dusted on a few big bream and brought up a few more reasonable bream. Then once again the Hawkesbury river half spin found us and we decided to call it a day. All in all we battled the wind, the spin and the 1m swell at Juno point but still managed a few fish. And most importantly the streak is still alive! Also for any fishing the river over the next week personally I would be staying down river around Juno & Flint. [emoji16] Joe B
  4. Scratchie, They aren't twins, one is slightly uglier than the other. And the only time that boat catches a fish offshore is when i am not on it!!!!!!!!! Joe B
  5. Mate pier 2 on hickson rd usually holds a few but you will have to brave the crowd. The lighter you fish the more hook ups you will get. Joe B
  6. Will Another method to try would be to catch some live bait then choose your desired location ( old mans hat) anchor up and start burleying. What I find sometimes works for me is that instead of cubing for them which is what you described you could also mix in bread crumbs, left over bait and some tuna oil. Once this hits the water it's a lot finer and covers a lot more area which can in turn bring the bait to your boat which will in turn attract the kingfish. This is generally when the Kingy will fancy your struggling baitfish on a hook and worse case of its not interested as bigpigs described above you can throw down a lightly or unweighted bait. 7. Bigpigs is one of those blokes that can say "Ohhh I bet there's a drummer in about 3m off those rocks" and then catch a drummer 3m off those rocks. Joe B
  8. Just a standard ball sinker swivel leader hook, Smallest sinker that gets the bait down and 4-6lb leader generally. Mate at least you have got fish from the vines previously. I tried about 20 times then gave up. Usually anchor up around at the mid point between the point and the land. The closer to the point you the more snags. Joe B
  9. Shakey, Mate anywhere with a few snags on the bottom I find around bar point to be better in the early morning or low light periods I would concentrate in the deeper areas while the sun is high. Most important would be to fish the tides I know it's hard but if you can pick your days try and find the small tide differences i.e 1.3 - 0.7 where there is minimal change it will allow you more time to fish. 10. Shimano symetre is a pretty good value for money option. Reliable and won't let you down have had mine for almost 5 years and it still doesn't miss beat. Joe B
  11. A few days late but none the less. Hit the Hawkesbury river up around bar point in the morning followed by a couple hours at Flint and Steel. Totalled - 7 Bream & 1 Flathead Bait - Hawkesbury prawns & Fresh Tailor Joe B
  12. Have a green one that looks ridiculous in the water, however i have since given up using it for squid and soley use it for attracting live bait in the dark.
  13. its because you strike like a fairy. as discussed that night on the boat STRIKE EM HARD

    Hat Head

Hi Fellow fishraiders, Me and a mate are heading up to hat head in mid june, chasing kingies, longtails if they around and the usual suspects during the day. only problem is we have never been here before and we have fished rock ledges fom bermagui to past numbucca. Could anyone relay some information or where to chase to bait.. is there squid around those parts? also some jewy spots that arent off the beach would be great. and to finish off, the closest tackle shop would great Thanks in advance to the generous fish raiders out there who like to share there knowledge around, with out you guys fishing would be 10X harder kind regards Joe
  21. Hi all, Sorry for the delayed report. My mate (Galini1) and i headed into the the hawkesbury last saturday morning. Conditions were expected to be great overcast and 27degrees and for once the weather report was right it stayed over cast ( could not believe it ). We kicked off at 5am heading to Flint and steel with an array of fresh bait including hawkesbury prawns, salted pillies, fresh pillies, chicken gut and an armada of soft plastics and Vibes. Anyway Flint and steel 5am - 9am resulted in about 6 legal bream biggest going 33cm 9am - Break 9-30am - 1pm Drifting around patonga throwing soft plastics and soft vibes resulting in 3 flatties to 45cm, lost 2 big flatties at the boat one threw the hooks and the other ( cannot believe this) the ring pulled out of the soft vibe ( not happy about this as was a $30 lure) all in all it wasnt to bad for me as both disasters happened to my mate which resulted in approx 6 hours of me telling him that he has no idea and him telling me i have s**t lures. 1pm - 4pm Anchored up inside juno point to get out of the wind resulted in 4 jewies all undersize but fun nonetheless on bream gear all between 55-65, these catches were inbetween stingrays and snags. 4pm - 7pm Back to flint (as the wind died down) another 5 bream smallest being 30 biggest being 37. All in all it was a pretty good day on the water, moral of the story is dont waste time fishing the wrong times in the wrong places if the tide is running to hard move and find somewhere easier to fish or if the wind is howling find a nice little corner. Also the bait of the day was hawkesbury prawns. Finally 7 30pm - 9pm stuck at the ramp flat battery (luckily the bush mechanic Galini was there) Thanks guys tight lines
  22. Alveys take abit of getting used to if you havent used one before, If your sticking with spin i would be looking at around the 20lb ( or less ), you dont need as much abbrasion resistance of the beach. Also you could use braid however usual beach conditions (wind & current) usually result in some nice tangles/ knots that you would not even believe possible unless you see it. If you do use braid though i would be tying a a few meters of mono onto it with an FG knot ( to allow castability) before adding swivels hooks etc. Also if you get a spin reel make sure it has a high shallowish spool "if that makes sense" helps with the casting. Good luck
  23. Mate if your after a feed you could try Patonga. Walk around the rocks for a few minutes and presto have caught a Bream & flatties. Nice beautifull spot for a relaxing fish also worth while casting and slow retrieving a soft plastic. good luck.
  24. Personally i think to tight and your at risk at pulling the hooks on the take either way however if you do get a hook up the main aim i believe is to turn his head ( very much easier said then done ) Goodluck
