  1. Paikea

Thats exactly what I do down that way.

I dont report everytime I fish because I mainly bottom bounce for flathead.

Reports could be very boring, but if something unusual happens I put a report in.

  2. Left Early this morning, still a bit of drizzle around but good to be out. Went straight out to the middle ground, first bait hit the water at 5,00am. Started to catch some undersize snapper, and then a Pike. The Jackets found me at first light and made it too difficult to fish. Moved further north to my next spot but the Jackets were waiting. Out of curiosity I tried some Freshwater Gulps on my Paternoster Rig, The Jackets really loved those. Moved closer in and started to catch spikey flathead by the dozen. Came in close to Green Hills to have a sandwich and throw a few SPs. Got 4 on the plastics but all undersize. Thought I was going to come home fishless, but off south Cronulla some arches on the sounder made me stop for another try. These turned out to be small Trevally, in between the Trevally up came a couple of Flathead about 37cm. Doing the drift again produced 2 more Flatties and a Flounder. Next drift produced a metre long Gummy Shark. Then the wind dropped and so did the bites, so I created an artificial drift using the motor, this produced 4 more Flathead and then Sammy the seal came and spoiled the party. “Jackets and Seal’s” only needed a Shark for the Trifecta. The Trevally and Gummy were returned, I much prefer the Flathead, Back home before 12.00.

  3. Watts reef has some very large boulders, and the fish have pathways through these boulders.

One boat can be catching fish and another boat 3 metres away will catch nothing.

Fish the incoming tide at night for tailor and bream, if catching nothing, make small moves

untill you get over one of these channels that the fish are using.

Jackets were only small, not worth the effort.

Green toads were bigger but we arent going to eat those.

Was trolling along the 40 metre depth, Lots of bait showing on the sounder.

Dollies were caught off Marly, Stripeys further south,

Love the user name, took me a while for it to sink in but brilliant.

  5. Best to park at Wanda and walk towards Boat harbour.

Plenty of worms and Pipies if you know what you are doing.

Very hard to miss swimmers and surfers during school holidays.

Fishes better at night if you find the right gutter.

  6. Hi Raiders

    Left the hacking at 5-30am

Trolled to Garie beach for 3 undersize Dollies and 3 large striped tuna.

Kept 2 for bait released the third. Tried for flathead but the wind dropped

And there was little current and not much drift. Got 3 legal flathead.

Lost heaps of rigs to the jackets, started to fish for them, caught a couple

and 3 green toads. Back by 11-30, Heaps of bait fish, birds diving,

large school of Dolphins, water was flat as, beautiful day everybody should have been out there.

Back creek is very shallow see photos, good for mullet Bream at night, very quiet during the day.

Much better trying the main river. Go to the Pub near the Boatshed have Dinner, cross the road and start fishing.

Bait available at the Boatshed.100 metres further down the road.

  8. I was taught in my youth to snell Spade end hooks, which at the time were used for Black fishing. To this day many years on I still snell tie all my hooks, some sliding and some fixed to suit the occasion. Only tie them in Mono and don't get knot failures. The only time I do not snell is when bottom bashing for flatty’s, where I use a dropper loop and the hook is looped on. If I get a hook bitten off there is usually enough of the loop left to snell on another hook without replacing the whole rig.

  9. Hi Dave

I have mounted my pump and intake onto some waterproof ply

It hooks onto the transom and bolts on at the bottom.

When I want to use the scoop I just push it down and twist it to face forwards

All the piping is 20mm electrical conduit available at Bunning’s.

When on the plane the scoop needs a tap to reduce the flow.

    Hope this helps

  10. Hi Raiders

Left the ramp at 5.00 and headed north out of the hacking today. Caught the Morwong and snapper in 60 metres first thing, then the wind changed and stuffed up the drift. Moved over to the sand and caught the flathead. Could not raise another fish after 9.00, the bite stopped the current and wind was in opposite directions. Released three mutton birds and won an argument with an Albatross. The mutton bird caught the bait on the way down and brought it back to the surface, the mutton bird was on the top hook and then the Albie took the bottom hook, was panic stations for a few minutes, but all were released unharmed. Back at the ramp at 11.00. Nice feed though.
