  1. Hey Trevor nice to meet you mate. Was a great day and I've got to say I think it's first time Royce hasn't landed the 1st fish....
  2. Aside from the fact that the alvey will outlas me !!! there are so many other reasons to fish with them off the rocks, - when I am fishing with a float it is by far the easiest way to give or retrieve line allowing the bait to look natural in the water - even when fishing the bottom I still give and retrieve line - total control of the drag (my palm) instantly lock or release - not to mention when I started fishing the rocks I did start using a threadline and in just 6 months in simply fell apart.
  3. I use a snyder mt7144 and alvey 625b spooled with 20lb mono
  4. Nathan I use 20lb line, and I know guys who use 30lb dont think you could stop the big boys on 10lb. I use bread for burley and peeled banana prawns as bait. My rig is a small 0 or 00 sinker straight to a 1/0 strong hook. I burley consistently and even use bread for bait at times. depending on the spot I also use a bobby cork at times. setup: Snyder mt7144 Alvey 625b
  5. well done, and a great feed...
  6. great catch, great feed well done !!! I find myslef targeting drummer and blackfish exclusively now....
  7. went out in rather flat conditions in the eastern suburbs yesterday, didnt think there would be much action as it was hard to find any good wash. battled the winds, used bread for burley and prawns as bait. started slow then got a couple bream a leather and then!! smash got busted off big time. I rigged up and wasnt going to make the same mistake twice, I get onto what I knew was a big fish, it tried to reef me 3 times and rather than try and yank it out I gave it line and patiently fought till it tired, finally a 55cm monster floated to the top allowing me to wash him onto the rocks. what a thrill....
  8. burley was bread and used prawn, (fresh) as bait, they were a great fight... I always bleed both luderick and pigs but I was told recently that it doesnt make a difference ? I dont take chances anyway and let me say they were great eating.
  9. I've been doing quite a bit of luderick fishing lately so I was keen to get into some drummer. Set out last Friday the swell was crazy so we fished a spot at the edge of a beach instead of out the front as usual. (northern beaches). What a day!!! the swell was so bad the fish had come in to get out of it. ended up with 5 in the bag and on one of my casts I missed the spot and ended up drifting toward the shore, what I though was a snag ended being a flattie. I also got busted off twice by some serious fish.
  10. well done boys... mind you I hate it when I miss out on the action.
  11. I was fishing with LA at Lady Jane and actually spotted the helicopters hovering, but the swell was so big I didnt imagine that anyone would be that stupid to fish there in those conditions. I feel for the families but at some point we have to be left to pay the price of our own choices we are over-policed as it is, in every area of our lives....
  12. Great catch, I fished Wednesday and ended up fishing a depth of about 1m as well before I could get a down. If you don't mind me asking what was the general area you were at, no need to be specific.
  13. well done and great job releasing her back...
  14. Luderick-angler took me out a couple if weeks ago and spent 4 hours of his time showing me the ropes to this fine art. Well decided to give it a go on my own using the tips he shared and whT a great morning it was. After spending a half hour working out the depth was into 2 fish immediately. One of his tips though was to tie off the keeper net correctly which in my haste I didn't do. I had it pulled tight in hole and to my amazement the buggers got loose and they were gone. After a half hour of nothing and still devasted I moved to another ledge and it all started. 4 in the bag plus a decent model drummer and boy was that fun on 3 kg trace and 6 kilo line. 3 too small to keep 3 dropped at my feet and a dozen downs that I stuffed All I can say is thanks LA - I don't know who hands out the mentor awards but he deserves one he was selfless in his time with it would have taken me 10 years to have a day like this without his help
  15. Thanks for the reply re the depth. Have been trying in the east and around kurnell but am struggling with it at the moment. I will try different depths next time.
  16. great session, just wondering what depth you started at and what you adjusted to,
  17. Hi Guys, Sorry it took so long to respond, thanks for the info, yes Yakkas is what im after, and the King's were caught on the South side of Maroubra. thanks,
  18. am hoping to fish with some live bait from a land based spot in maroubra, they were catching Kings from this spot the other day, was wondering if anyone can point me to a good spot around the Brighton area to pick up some live bait.
  19. I can only imagine what the "unstoppables will feel like" I am totally hooked.
  20. Yes I was using bread, that's why I thought I'd give the bread a go as bait and it worked
  21. went up to Nelsons Bay for a couple of days with the family. I have been fishing for about a year now and have spent the last 2-3 months focused only on Drummer (in Sydney) have caught small ones but hadnt felt the fight of a decent drummer. I have used cunje, weed, prawns and always burley with bread. this time I had some crappy prawns which did nothing but attract pickers so I started to use bread. Almost immediately started to get some action, brought up about 5 small drummer and a couple decent size wrasse. And then the fight of my life followed by a second even bigger. It has taken me three months but it has been worth the effort, and they were a great feed.
  22. absolutely guys I had the time of my life, and the feed was sensational, my only worry is I won't be able to replicate it.
  23. Went to a spot in Kurnell that I fish off the rocks, was actually chasing drummer fishing with Prawn and using bread for burley. My rig was a 00 sinker straight down to the hook (a size 2 suicide). I get my first bite it felt like a good fish I thought maybe a small drummer but to my amazement up comes a black fish(luderick). I went on to bag 10 all good size and I released about 10 fish all legal, almost every cast for over an hour was a hit. I have only been fishing for a year and am still learning - this is the most fish I have ever caught in one session, what amazes me is that I have been trying to learn how to black fish using cabbage a float, size 8 hooks, etc with no luck and then this happens ? What's even more suprising is that a guy two metres from where I was fishing was using a float with cabbage and did not get one hit ??? He ended up changing his rig and using prawn as well. I enjoyed it obviously but left even more confused than before. I have taken photos and will try to upload shortly.
