  1. kings and marlin off the banks at the moment but weather has been crappy. spiz
  2. EPA would have acted as it is poluting the waterway. They look for any excuse to impose a fine. This would not have been an excuse though as would have been legit reason, however i think he would of got away with a stern warning for first offence.
  3. Hi Roberta, I fish the beaches of Vincentia quite regularly when im down the coast. Try fishing Collingwood beach with some soft plastics i could almost guarantee you a feed of flathead. You need to walk the beach and cast plastics along the way. I have caught some great fish over the years. Go and visit Dave at the tackle store and he will be more than willing to help. Enjoy the fishing. Cheers Jim
  4. Great Reds there mate, there has to be a few more around as they are getting them all along the coast, but to get them you have to specifically target them. great report and good to see they are around in Sydney.
  5. The Snapper are definetely on in Jb. I have heard reports of 4-6kg fish being taken in the bay. Just got to make time to get down there as i have the bug!!!!!! Great report there mate. Happy
  6. G,day Grant, Mate he definetely is worth the money and i would recommend him any time. If there are fish around he will find them. The season is going off there at the moment so don't leave it to late. Whilst down there i also bumped into Alister Mcglashan as was down to do some under water filming on Snapper which should be interesting on his opfkfpo dvd series. He was quite keen to get stuck into some good fish as there was plenty around. Lee Reyner had also scored a couple of good fish on soft plastics of around 5kg on the same day as he is a goodmate of Matt from Reel time. If you need Matt"s number let me know. cheers, Jim.
  7. Photos cont... Photos cont... Photos cont.... Photos cont Photos G,day Penguin, You would think it would be the case but suprisingly we didnt get as many as i thought we would. It did get a little out of hand when you get three or more rods go off together. It was just a matter of moving the rods around to suit. The other thing going for Port Phillip Bay is that there is not much current to deal with unlike us here in nsw.
  8. G,day raiders, Don't get to post to many reports but thought that if anybody is planning a trip down south into Melbourne and is keen on catching a decent Snapper ,you better get down there asap as the fishing are biting there heads off at the moment. I just got back from a two week spell down there as was visiting the inlaws and managed to get a couple of days fishing in between visits to wifes friends and relatives and boy was it worth it I had a couple of land based sessions without to much to talk about as most fish landed were barracouta and banjo sharks. Decided to ask a few questions as far as charters go and gave Paul Worstlings tackle shop a ring and was recomended to a fellow by the name of Matt Cinni who runs Reeltime fishing charters. This bloke knows his territory!!! Booked a trip out but the problem was he was busy but he managed to squeaze me in. Session was from 10am till 4pm and i thought those hours are a bit odd but went with it. Met at the ramp and after a short introduction we were on our way. Anchored up on a tinny reef and the sounder showed some definite arches, no sooner than the baits had hit the water a coulpe of rods buckled over, a couple of nice reddies. things were a little quiet after that although we did get a couple of good runs but didnt get to the rod quick enough and lost fish. Time came up and only had a coulpe of fish up to 2kg nothing to really brag about. Matt said that even he was dissapointed at that effort as he had been getting fish at least 4kg so he said that he would take me out again free of charge just pitch in for fuel and bait so we can land a better red. I said sweet and the date was set. Ariving at the ramp for the next session i find tht my host is not there and i thougt here we go just my luck. Mind you was meant to meet at 5am but being keen and all i was there from 4am (couldn't sleep from anticipation). 6am comes and still no show and i thought he must have got his times mixed up due to dailight savings. I thought cant wait anymore so i give him a call and he picks up the phone and i hear oh SH_T!!!!! he is full on appologetic and tells me he will be there in ten. True to his word he arrives and after a quick launch we are off as he is still wiping the sleep out of his eyes. We have a few laughs and a good dose of coffee for him and we anchor up at spot x and start to fish. What happened next was just unbelievable, we had around six baits out and they just about all got smacked. There was rods buckling everywhere. We landed three of the fish and 2 were at least 4kg each. Practically every bait that hit the water in a 30min session got hit. Gear used after we had our bag of 3fish over 50cm Matt brought the light gear out and we had the time of our lives from those big bumping runs of snapper of fish averaging 4-6kg. After a few more catch and release fish it was time to up anchor and rescue a mate of his wich had boken down but i was not complaining as that 1 hour experience was one to remember. So if you like your Snapper fishing and are looking for a fish over the 5kg size visit Port Phillip Bay even if you are not a fan of Melbourne. Here are some picks that i managed to take, sorry but no action shots of rods buckling over as i had orther priorities!!!
  9. The fish are there boys!! They are coming on late in the afternoon. We were out there yesterday for an afternoon session but went a little south of browns and not as wide and hooked up on a fish but lost it about 10 - 15 mtrs under the boat. Fish was around the 30kg mark. Another boat out there same time as us got a tripple hook up and landed two of the fish around 30kg so dont despair they are there but you need to work hard for them and dont go heavy on the leader as they will shy away. We got the hook up on the lighter leader 60lb. Didnt get a sniff with the heavier leaders. You just hope that the big one doesnt come along and take the smaller gear. The current was another problem as we drifted practically to port kembla and had a long hall back to port hacking, the big fella upstairs must have been with us as i think we were running on fumes to make it back in the dark. A good arvo session anyway!!! Good to see that the fish are still there but i dont think for long, as the water temp is creeping up.
  10. Water temp to warm for jews at the moment, have been out a couple of times chasing jew in the last couple of weeks. Had 1 good run, possible jew, caught 1 soapie which went back to get bigger and fight another day. Water temp in the bay has been 26 degrees on the first trip thus a very quiet evening session and 24.8 degrees on the last and yet another quiet evening. Bait was fresh squid which normally does the trick but not much to talk about at the moment as far a jew is concerned. I think that the jew have moved out to deeper water which in turn will be a little cooler and might trigger them off to feed. Not sure if my theory is right but might find the time to try it out in the next few days to see if thats the case.
  11. Marlin-Madness, JB Tackle is situated in Huskinson at 57 Owen st. If you get lost just ask anyone in Husky Pub they all know where it is as Dave frequents the area. Ask Dave which are the better Charters available as there are a few that operate from there. There is Jervis bay fishing charters, Simos afloat and a couple more but Dave will put you on to the right people. Weather not looking the greatest to get outside though, looks like this wind isn't going to ease off to much forcast is for more winds If you do get out though a beaky is definetely on the cards. We headed out towards the canyons on Sunday only to turn back only 1.5kms from our destination due to the wind getting stronger, blew up to 25knots and we thought our lives were more important. The water temp was around 24 degrees and colour was cobault blue perfect for beakies. Cant wait to get back out there. Hope you get some break in the weather as you are almost guarranteed a fish. Good luck mate Cheers Spiz
  12. St Georges basin has some good populations of bream and some thumper flathead. They were getting some good fish around christmas even some good pan size snapper were to be had. I was down there on the weekend but from reports i heard whilst there was that the action had died down. Things should pick up though. I flick plastics up along colingwood beach around vincentia and always nail a good flathead or two and the occassional bream but be careful not to wade in to deep as ther are some good sharks lerking about at the moment. Report has it that the tagged 6 bronze whalers at plantation point last week. You could also try curambeene creek as this has some good bream populations. Best bet is to pop in to jb tackle and talk to Dave as he is more than happy to help out and give you a run down as to where the action is at the moment. If you put in the time you should get some good fish. Heaps of baitfish there at the moment. Water was black from baitfish on the main beach infront of vincentia on saturday looked like small pilchards and the birds were going berserk. If you get a chance to go outside on a boat there are some big marlin about at the moment.
  13. have mixed views on ultrabite as have cauhgt a thumper of a bream in st georges basin down the south coast that went over 40cm and no other baits were touched and on other occasions havent had a touch on ultra bait. Have caught a couple of snapper off jervis bay with ultra bait but in my view nothing beats fresh bait. Fished a reef off jervis bay on sunday and had fresh prawns that a mate had picked up from sydney fish markets and frozen for the trip down south and we caught snapper to 2 kilo, some nice pig fish and some great mowies. Fresh bait anyday!!!! Ultra bait is good to use when you have a rod always packed in the car and feell like a fish at the spur of the moment and you cant get your hands on any bait nearby, you can just mix it up and you have some instant bait. It does work but not anywhere near as good as fresh bait.
  14. Definetely sounds like a banjo shark.
