  2. You running very light drags on the lures? I have thought about it, using circles on the lures, have'nt tried yet but must give it go!.......... We normally go alright on hook-up conversion on normal stiff-rigs....single or double-hook....., can't seem to pry-away from that convention.. Wack'
  3. I have both.............Makaira and Tiagra........Both have been excellent. I lent my Tiagra to a mate who has now moved to JB and my reel along with him! So right now I'm running a Makaira and I have to say, it has already done it's duty on Blue marlin, Bluefin Tuna, a small yellowfin and some big kings in NZ........never missed a beat and what a spectacular drag!........when you try it you'll know what i mean..... You won't go wrong with either......so pick-one or run both! Wacko.
  4. Thanks guys! Hey Pred-Ator: The whole time the boat was in transit, I was peaking about the electric motor issue......is the boat too big?, will the electric's shaft even make it to the water?, will it move it around?..........all these questions were answered when the boat arrived here ( and after much research!). Basically, I went for the I-Pilot 80lb with the longest shaft possible (65inch)........it has PLENTY of get up and go and moves the boat around with ease.....I went for 2x 120amp batteries just incase I needed to run the electric on full power all the time (which I don't)........it has surprised me how well a 6.6mtr boat moves around with the agility of a bass boat! BTW, the Shaft 'just' makes it to the water.....I have a bout an inch to spare.....so you gotta measure the Boats bow to waterline to see if an electric will fit. The fuel tank on my rig is 300 litres! and yes, even when it is full, and gear, and 4 anglers....the electric has power in reserve! I'm sure these new I-pilots are way 'gruntier' than the old models.....Go I-PILOT 100% Wacko.
  5. Good going fellas on your first beakie!!! The 'odd' one-out outfit on my boat trolling for marlin these days, is a 20size Makaira overhead on a rollered rod.....everything else is jigging gear and Big spin set-ups, heaps of fun!.....we've nailed a few nice Blues on these outfits way over the shelf, so they are certainly not 'toys' in the gamefishing scene... Wacko.
  6. Hi ABCFisho, Nah, not that big! I wish!!! Just the camera angle...... Wack'
  7. Hi Everyone! Its been a very long time since ive posted any reports on here! Very busy mainly due to work and house stuff but it's good to be back and catch up with you fellas.....and ladies! I'll keep it brief so here goes................ This time last year I took delivery of a very nice center console boat named "HONEY II"..................she is a Seacraft 22ft Glass' CC with a big bad 225HP Merc on the ass end, with every thanks for helping with the import goes to BILLY D, legend!.........the reason why I mention the boat is it's about the best "ALL ROUNDER" i have ever come across in my years of owning numerous boats....and boating with other friends. She has allowed me to access the sandflats to drift for bream and whiting poppering the day away, cruise the rockwalls of the hawkesbury with the I-Pilot Electric throwing plastics at jewfish, downrigg and slow troll for big Kings, anchor and set cube trails for snapper, yet at the same time head way, way offshore in search of Yellowfin and Bluefin tuna and offcourse, my favourite, BEAKIES!!!! So, after that spiel........I have come to the conclusion that this boat has helped score some fantastic recent captures and I;m looking forward to many many more! Call us on the water for a fishing chat! Channel 21 or 67...."HONEY II" Heres a few pics.......... Big Rig..... Little Black we got last week in 40mtrs off water on a slimey... Big late arvo kings on livebaits 2 weeks ago... Hawkesbury jewies on plastic and light string...(6lb leaders) Hawkesbury snappers with Big Bad RayR! Some of recent notable captures......hope to see you out there! Cheers, Wacko.
  8. Hi guys, Heres the video for some of the bluefin caught on Reef Magic and our own boats. Love the big fish surface hits! Good vid to watch when the weather is crap and you cant get out! Cheers, Wacko.
  9. Thankyou to the boys at Reef Magic for a brilliant day! and a big thanks to Adrian for the invite! Awesome fishing when you can sight cast and catch these beasts on poppers and stickbaits 10mtrs from the back of the boat. I'll put up a more detailed report with video of the fish smashing the stickbaits on the surface, as soon as possible. Cheers, Wacko.
  10. Hey Billy, they dont call them thirsty Mercs for nothing!!! hahahah....only joking.....I always take spare fuel.....even if the big tank is full to the brim....just something I've always done......and spare oil too.... Cheers, Wack'
  11. Cheers Damo...............you boys are Smashing it!! You finding they are not taking cubes as well?......not that it really matters, especially when you can get them on jigs, troll etc ect......just interested cause' last season, we caught fin' on the cube rather then trolling.... Point being....at least they are here to catch! Wacko.
  12. Hi guys, Yep, we got into em' as well on Sunday off Sydney. We were approx 8 miles to the north and well east of Browns, when our trolled lures got monstered by fin'. We had a school of them around the boat to ourselves and got them on jigs....but they would'nt take a cube, only a moving 'bait'. Fish were between 35kg and 65kg.......also got Albacore on the Jigs and troll home. What a great day! Glad Sydney is having a run........but where are the yellowfin?? This guy weighed 65kg.......looked smaller to me on the boat but industrial electronic scales dont lie! Cheers, Wacko.
  13. Hi mate, We were wide off the bait station for a few hours...then, yes............eventually fished that patch of warm water inside the shelf (right into the 70mtr mark).......total score 0-0-0.............tells the story. Wacko.
  14. Top stuff mate!!! Well done Looks good on the boat... Dont' be offended but I'll add my two cents......Theres no way you will hold position with 'spot-lock' at the FADS or the Peak in any sort of current or wind greater than 5knots..... The Minn Kota will try it's dammned hardest to hold you there.....but 80lbs of thrust aint gonna hold you offshore in a sea.... You can prove me wrong if you want! I'd like to see video of that motor holding postion outside.....if It does I'll get one!!!! It's a weapon motor for inshore stuff though Cheers, Wacko.
  15. Big honker bream mate!!!!! Great stuff!! Wacko.
  16. Hi everyone, She's finally here!! I ordered a boat from the states just before Xmas 2011 and around 3 weeks ago it arrived here in Australia. She's a 21ft Seacraft Centre Console with a 225HP Mercury outboard, complete with aluminium trailer and hydrolic brakes. I've been looking at these particular hulls for a long time beforehand....... and the time was right when this boat popped-up for sale. I called BillyD from Sportsfishing Boats and got the ball rolling.......the boat was literally just listed so we were first up for price negotiations......and the rest is history... So, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our Site sponsor, BillyD Sportsfishing Boats.Com.Au Billy was awesome throughout the whole process......he made sure the paperwork was up to spec....got the boat wrapped and packed professionally in the USA......kept me updated for all stages of the import.....he even drove down to Port Kembla with me to make sure the boat could be towed safely home ( I don't think this is a standard thing though, so please check first) I sourced the boat myself and got Billy to organise the 'back-end' stuff for import...... All went very smooth and it took around 1.5 months to get here....... about the only hard part of it all was parting with the cash and wondering if the boat you just 'bought' sight-unseen is gonna check out ok..... And on that note I might add......please do your research, choose carefully........my boat was in excellent nick for it's age (2001), but there was a guy next to us down at Port Kembla and the boat he just imported, was trashed and did'nt look too good......you could see the dissapointment in his face..... If you have any questions about anything (Hulls,Boat size, import, costs etc etc) Pm me, I'd be happy to share the info that I now know.........or better still, call or PM BillyD, he'll be more than happy to 'fill you in'. I would also like to thank a couple of 'Raiders that helped me with the boat so far......these being: Snap-per (Nick).....This guy is a master electrician and helped me out with re-wiring the boat(after T-top reassembled) and trailer etc etc........not to mention he's an all round good bloke and great fun to fish with!! Thanks Nick!!! Salmon Hunter (Bill)......What an absolute champ! Bill organised an engine service/tech and water tested the boat a couple of times while I was at work during the week...... I guess he's also super keen to get the boat ocean ready for more marlin and kingy sessions!!! Thank Bill!!! I'm stoked with my purchase and am looking forward to many fishy sessions in the new tub!!! Cheers everyone, come say g'day if you see us on the water.....boat name "Honey II"....... normally hang out on vhf channel 67 or 21.... Wacko. Heres a couple of pics......
  17. Hi everyone, What a surprise to finally get some nice conditions after all the weather we've had! Bill and myself took advantage of this and headed out in search of Mr.Beakie The plan of attack was straight out of the harbour and head for the horizon in Bill's boat........mind you it's a 4.75mtrs aluminium Centre console with a 70hp outboard! Hardly a marlin battelwagon game boat! But....armed with good safety gear, plenty of water and PLENTY of spare fuel and oil, we were confident to roam out-wide and bask in the glorious conditions. ( you could have waterskied to New Zealand!) We pulled lures to the 12 mile and headed north/east out and beyond the shelf to 295mtrs.....there we found some really good current breaks and good temperature readings.... No sooner than I said 'looks real good for a marlin bite'......the shotgun lure cracked off and we had an angry blue 'wind-shield wiping' at the back of the boat. It then took off at warp speed.......headed deep... and Bill got ready for a good fight.... Fish was boatside in around 40mins......beautifully released, with video taken......Bill was a happy boy! We did'nt even reset the lures for another 30mins after the fish swam off......we turned the motor off and just drifted the currents.......enjoying such a nice day.....and recounting the capture.... For those interested: Fish was hooked on a 9inch Pakula sprocket (old version with soft head)...run at shotgun position (blues love shotgun run lures!) On Shimano Talica 20 overhead reel loaded with 50lb Iron braid.....FG knotted to 30ft of 150lb Jinkai leader (top shot) Bill was strapped into an AFTCO harness and 'muscled' a stubborn, deep slugging Blue marlin with this outfit...... very capable set-up. Cheers, Wacko.
  18. Top fish mate!!! Well done!! Wacko
  19. Nice fish bud!!! Good report! Cheers, Wacko.
  20. Nice fish mate! We had big ZEROS on jewies yesterday arvo...not much happening up the Hawkesbury. Good to see em' turning up. Wacko.
  21. Hi mate, Good going on the beakster.. Yeah swipers, they are annoying......If you are working a particular area (sounded like you were) the I would have had a skip bait at the ready or alreadt deployed into the spread. You can run skip baits and lures together...just gotta slow down a touch. I reckon that Stripe would have eaten.... Cheers mate, Wacko.
  22. Hi guys, New Years started off with a bang! Went out wide in search of some marlin......lucked out on that front....but on the plus side we found a deep mark and dropped some rigs into the abyss. The results were some nice Blue Eye cod and this.....................one ugly/pretty/crazy/facinating/ Big ass Bass groper!!!! We were fishing in 550mtrs of water...somewhere wide off the shelf Broken Bay way. I know dudes get Bass Groper out at Browns as well but this is the first truly big one I have come across! The two guys holding the fish in the pic....one is 6ft tall and the other guy is 6'3" just to give you an idea of scale Bass Groper weighed 40.95kg....big guy! Cheers and have a great New Years everyone!! Wacko.
  23. Thanks guys! Yeah, we were lucky with that net! We did have a gaff but it had'nt been organised and I was still uncertain if I wanted to release the fish or not. I saw that the hooks were well embedded in the fish's mouth and also tangled in the netting....so we just hauled it onboard! Pretty lucky........and stupid! LOL P's- For the guys who have PM'd me.......I will get there with your replies! I've had computer issues so can't really reply at work.......but I promise I will get back to everyone. Wack'
  24. Hi folks, Sorry guys, I had a computer blow-out at home so it's taken me a while to upload some of the vids. Heres the main one of that Big King on the popper. I wish we'd gotten the 'strike' on film.......we didnt have the camera rolling for the first few casts.....who expects a fish like that on the second throw???!!! LOL! Enjoy guys, Cheers, Wacko.
