  1. Hi all, A few more details and images of our successful trip last Sunday  :yahoo: . We trolled from 8:40am and found birds and plenty of Stripies. At 1:30pm we got a double hookup of Yellowfin on the skirts we were trolling. Good teamwork by Matt and eldest son James saw us put both fish (28kg and 30kg)on the deck. As we were cleaning up a dumb Blue Shark of about 100kg came up and nosed around. I threw it a pre-rigged bait which it took and then wouldn't swim far enough away from the boat to set the hook! It eventually ran 20m before swimming back to the boat. I fair dinkum could have caught it on 1kg if I had wanted to. I held it near the boat whilst we got a tag ready and after a couple of attempts got it in. We cut the wire and it happily swam away. We continued trolling for more stripies and a 5kg Jelly Bean YFT. All strikes were on skirts, the bibless minow wasn't touched all day. Came in early as we were going out again on Monday, but the short high chop forced us back after a few miles :05: . Will be back out again Friday and Saturday and who knows maybe even Sunday. Tight lines, Bruce. P.S. If you are going out, take care.
  2. Great work guys! Keep the reports coming. You are giving many others the motivation to ensure we make it out in the days ahead.
  3. Headed out this morning from the Hacking. Got past Jibbon and at 8am it was blowing a good 15kn from the south (it was a gentle 5kn from the west in the Hacking). The sea was short and sharp. Both boats turned back after 3 miles resolving to go again on Friday. Should have stayed out later yesterday! Bruce.
  4. We got some Yellowfin today - 1 @ 5kg, 1 @ 28kg and 1 @ 30kg all on the troll and well south of where the main group of boats were at Browns. Came home early as we are out again tomorrow - Monday. Fish were coming on everywhere in the afternoon as we were heading in. If you want YFT drop everything and get out there NOW while there are fish and fine weather. Bruce.
  5. Boarts fuelled up and gear laid out in the garage. Can't wait for tomorrow and Monday. Now for a few drinks with friends at the local. Had the radio on in the boat just now. Seems there have been a few smaller fish taken this morning - but that was only from 20 mins listening to 21. Bruce.
  6. We'll be out there Sunday (with the Rod Grabber and Matt) and Monday (with the successful Yellowfin team from 2008). Who else is going and are there any recent reports? Bruce.
  7. A weekend off the water for us. Waiting for the wind to be coming from a direction other than the west. We don't yet fancy another long trip home in the dark into the sea.
  8. The boat I waved at was not the typical Gamefishing boat to see at Browns. More at home at harbour beaches, Towra or South West Arm. But you fish in whatever you've got. I didn't see the Mad Mullet at all yesterday. The coming weekend don't look promising weather wise.
  9. The only boat we waved to today was a sports cruiser near Browns. Was that you?
  10. Good work Hayden. The westerlys are making the trip home a long one. Assume you were in the 'small' boat? We trolled for 6 hours today between 9am and 3pm for zeros. We zig-zagged aong the shelf and then out to Browns and back. Got back earlier than yesterday so as not to endure a long ride home. Radio reports were 1 decent fish taken, a shark on one of the charter boats but not much else. I'm now waiting for everyone else to tell me they are on in numbers or for calm seas before heading out again. Bruce.
  11. Ventured to Browns late morning today looking for fish for my better half and eldest son. Heard on the radio of a 65kg fish taken in the morning, not sure by whom. Trolled 2 jet heads and 2 bibless minows until 2:30 pm for 1 Striped Tuna. Suprised how few boats were out there today. Started cubing at Browns for 2 Striped Tuna. Gave it away at 4:45pm. No sign of anything worthwhile. Heard an SGFC boat had caught an Albacore and a Mako. Broadbill got 2 YFT to 25kg and lost a Striped Marlin. The westerly had come up and didn't die off after dark, so we had a slow 3 1/2 hour trip back to Port Hacking in the dark. Will almost certainly be out again tomorrow with new crew but home earlier before the westerly strengthens. Bruce.
  12. We will be heading out on Avalon from Port Hacking both Saturday and Sunday with different crews. The skipper will be the only one fishing both days.
  13. These are great posts to see at this time of year! Great fish, well done. I picked up 30kgs of Pillies today for upcoming trips. Bring on the YFT! Bruce.
  14. Sensational captures KD and the whole family. You are keeping my wife busy with these captures! Bruce.
  15. I did that, but its technically inside the bl**dy sanctuary zone that extends for 100m out and a further 100m of no-anchoring. I was going to take my chances but a guy on a yacht behind me told me he had been warned for fishing their whilst moored up and I didn't want to risk anyone dobbing us in so we moved. Bruce.
  16. Hi, Where would you suggest to find live bait in JB? In years past I have got it in close north of the Tubes and in close to the western side of Bowne Island - now both areas are part of the Marine Park. Bruce.
  17. Thanks for the post. I have been fishing Sussex and St. Georges Basin for 40 years and it is only in the past 12 months that I have heard reports of Jewies in the waterway. Catching three in the Inlet amazes me, great work, it will I am sure inspire us to spend some time overnight on the Basin and Inlet ith big baits. We had a good Easter with plenty of big Tailor on SPs on ultra-light tackle in the Basin and some Bream on baits. We also got a small King in JB downrigging, but had trouble finding bait. Bruce.
  18. Well done KD. But you haven't added the story that you mum sent me! Bruce.
  19. Headed out of Port Hacking at 6:30 am with the bald headed South African, got some Yakkas and trolled lures to the Port Hacking FAD. Wind blowing 15kn from the SW. Trolled around the FAD for zero, but half a mile south of the FAD a Striped Marlin came up and had a go at both 24s that were short before hooking up on the 15 on the starboard rigger. Fought the fish for an hour before the hooks suddenly pulled when the fish was 20m from the boat and close to beat. That's now Marlin 4, Bruce 0 in the last 3 trips. I feel like we did everything right during the fight in terms of the skipper and angler. Trolled until 8pm this evening for 1 Stripey. Didn't mark a lot of bait on the sounder. No dollies at Port Hacking or Botany Bay Wide FAD. The wind died around 10am and the NE never eventuated, so it was a lovely day on the water. Planning revenge aginst the Marlin already! Bruce.
  20. Stripeys at the wide Botany Bay FAD today, and Marlin at Port Hacking FAD - I'll post more on this separately.
  21. Thanks all for the tips. I will be back out there on Wednesday. Bruce.
