  1. 1 in the boat so far today. Great sea conditions at Grassy.
  2. Yes, we trolled some minows around it a few times and dropped some Yakkas on Monday for zero result. It was rather rough and we will go back in the next few days with better baits and conditions. Bruce.
  3. Boat is a 6.8m BarCrusher. It handles the bar with ease, but if I don't have to cross it, it is less risk with 10 and 13 year olds on board. We will be crossing the bar over the weekend once Laggers Point closes.
  4. G'day, Been at the Rocks for 3 days. Sunday trolled for zeros apart from a small Mack Tuna. Reports of the odd Wahoo around and some small dollies but we didn't find them. We turned our attention to Spotted Mackerel on Monday and got 1 with a limited supply of slimies. Many people use pillies or lures, but the slimies seemed to be the favoured bait. Today we persisted until we found slimies and filled up with 15 or so. As soon as the 1st bait hit the water it went off - OK, it was 10 seconds or so! We had 4 in the boat between 4 and 5 kg within 20 minutes! Got another 30 minutes later before they went off the bite. Looking forward to the days ahead. Bruce. P.S. Have been launching at Lagger Point to avoid the river bar and whilst it is more of a hassle with the waves surging, it's less life threatening than the bar. This ramp closes on Friday for the holidays unfortunately.
  5. Thanks for the info. We can't wait to get up there and get amongst the fish. Bruce.
  6. We're heading up to South West Rocks next weekend for 11 days. Does anyone have any recent reports? I'll post some reports whilst we are up there. Bruce.
  7. Around the moored boats at Callala Bay. We launched there over Christmas, picked up a vacant mooring and got Yakkas easily. Many of the other good areas are inside the Sanctuary zones and policed heavily. Bruce.
  8. Well done. We got a YFT this time last year about 2 miles off Jibbon. 2.7kg and took a Marlin lure. I amazed how the YFT pop up out of nowhere at times like this and then disappear again just as quickly.
  9. Thanks everyone for the positives replies. Much appreciated.
  10. Not us. We were north of there. We were fishing on a Cruisecraft.
  11. Tagged this Striped of around 90kg in 90 fathoms and 26 degrees of water today off Port Hacking on 24kg tackle. It took a medium sized lure and hooked nicely in the corner of the jaw. A big relief after missing numerous hook ups on lures in recent weeks. Still stuffed if we can find any bait off Sydney. Whilst Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie were going off, there are still plenty of fish to be had locally. What's the weather next weekend? Bruce.
  12. We trolled the shelf from east of Sussex Inlet to Beecroft and the JB FAD last Thursday for 10 hours for zeros - but another day it could well be firing. Bruce.
  13. Well done guys. Video like that provides plenty of motivation for future trips.
  14. Are the dollies above legal size?
  15. Totally Agree. I turned the radio down numerous times today as I had the whole family on board and nobody needs to hear the crap that was spoken.
  16. There was at least 1 Striped and 1 Black Marlin caught today off Sydney. I also heard of a 5kg Jellybean YFT as well on the radio.
  17. After hearing the reports from Friday we dropped everything and headed down. We fished the shelf off JB on Monday for zeros in rough conditions. The wind was blowing 15 knots + from the north by 7am. No great swell, but a good 2m of short breaking chop. We trolled in and out over the shelf between 90 and 250 fathoms (made great patterns on the GPS!) between the JB Canyons and 10 miles or so south along the shelf edge. Water almost a constant 19.7 degrees. A sunfish was the only sign of life. Bruce.
  18. Mike, I'm on my second Barcrusher - a 620c and love it. Couldn't recommend it highly enough as a tough fishing boat. Bruce.
  19. BarCrusher - when only the best will do and the budget doesn't extend to a Caribbean!
  20. Great fish guys. The Tuna that dreams are made of!
  21. 25nm on the 152 E line. That's where Al McGlashan got his fish. Around Browns and to 30nm out there were more Marlin than YFT caught. Water was a virtual uniform 20.0 degrees over the shelf. Bruce. P.S. I'll second all of the posts about yesterday as well.
  22. How wide - 20 miles plus now days. Yes, you would need to upgrade your boat. Personally I wouldn't head past the FADs in a pressed tin boat. You also need experience as the skipper and experienced crew on board. The boat also needs enough shelter for the crew when it is rough. As a 7m plate boat we are one of the smallest out wide and are very careful about what we head out in. Bruce.
  23. Get some ET pills from the Chemist in Caringbah. They work a treat and have cured my sea sickness. My kids joke "can we have one dad even if we don't go fishing!" In regards to the SBT - bloody awesome. We are heading down there this weekend to hopefully get amongst them. Bruce.
  24. G'day, Fished out of PH today. Trolled from 70 fathoms to Browns for zeros. Cubed for 90 minutes in rain and squals until the crew felt queasy. Started trolling and after 5 minutes the bibless minow on the short corner got smashed and broke the 15kg at the plait. Trolled into 150 fathoms when we almost ran over a Marlin. One of the lures goes off - Striped Tuna Lost sight of the Marlin. No reports on YFT anywhere on the radio into the mid-afternoon. Will be out there again tomorrow starting and finishing later. Bruce.
