  1. G'Day all Raiders ,

Picked up my boat and went out with my mate last friday , we say the report for the weather and decided that we needed to fish . I was hoping the boat would have luck with the first session . We stopped at a place near north head that we have caught kings and samsons from last season and dropped a few jigs .

First fish landed was a 45cm king , not legal so he went back , we landed heaps of them then decided to move and chase snapper .

Nothing much was happening , there was bait everywhere so we decided to sit it out and wait for the tide change at 6.40 am . All I wanted was to get a decent snapper as the first table fish on my new boat .

Just after the change of tide my floater bait buckled over and I struck . The fish ran for a good 150 mt before I could even think about turning its head . I knew it was a good snapper by the head shakes and runs .

This is what came up  I was stoked and high fives were swung as he went into the net :yahoo:

I tried to release him but he had his swim bladder out and was not responding to being swum by the boat , plus the damn mutton birds were everywhere and trying to dive on it when I was bringing him up so he went into the esky and fed 9 of us on the BBQ .

Not a PB but definately the biggest lump I have seen !

I think the new boat will serve me well !!

Cheers fellas , see you on the water

  2. Hey guys,

I started off the night catchin some live squid then headed down the road to see if the jews were back

i had 6 runs 3 cut me off (freaken oysters on low tide) 2 ran about 60 meters n just left it by this stage

i was having a heart attack i couldn't feel my legs hahah then no 6 just took offf wasnt gonna let him get away

after 15 mins @ about 3am i was as happy as Larry! Sorry guys i didnt have a tape measure or a scale @ the time.

He came upto my hip which is just over 1m

top jew mate,no matter if its jew 1,2,3,etc you still feel the adrenaline rush on every hook up,i know i do anyway especially when you see the rod sream on first run.

  3. gday raiders roberta had to come down to sydney for a short visit

so a plan was hatched between us to squeeze a jew session in.

After the last couple of nights i wasnt overly confident but I knew as every night passed the full moon was getting further away and dark nights have proven to be far better nights for jew in the past and my theory was proved right again tonight. we didnt see the moon rising until very late around midnight and it was only three quarters the size it had been on monday and tuesday nights.

We met at the ramp around 5.30pm and spent the first couple of hours chasing bream on blades with no success I managed to jag a small whiting in the tail and roberta managed a small tailor. Just on dark we motored over to our chosen jew spot and anchored up. half an hour later roberta was into a fish and after a couple of heartattack moments when it managed to somehow wrap the line around the hose inlet for a live bait tank I managed to reach down and somehow get it untangled and not long after a nice schooly of 67cm was in the esky!!! yahoo. a couple of hours later I managed a smaller 55cm model and we both missed a good take each on different occassions - oh well thats fishing.

Roberta has been out on several occassions with me chasing jew and a legal size specimen has always avoided her so it was great to see her finally break the duck! You couldnt smack the smile off her dial.

We are comptemplating chasing some bass next time we have the opportunity to fish together so we will keep you all informed as to how that goes.

Thanks roberta for a great night your company is always a pleasure and it was great to catch up again.

  4. Not a fan of rollers on deep drop rods. Your fishing braid and there isn't a whole lot of friction as the retrieve pace is quite settled. No long, fast runs to contend with either. I fish with a 5ft custom bent butt rod with guides which has worked well. I have matched this with a Miya Epoch X8zz. Total cost, under $1750.

Mate i fish the same set up as yours for 2yrs and had no issues.Fished both rod types roller and guides and i stuck to the rod with guides found it more than ample to do the deep drops.

  5. Hi Everyone,

After spending all day at kindy my mum picked me up and drove me down to The Entrance and I got to jump on Dads boat and have a quick fish before it got to late.

Well we went in the channel and fished near the bridge. I told Dad I was using his special rod & reel and he put on a peeled prawn for me and cast it into the water and straight away I was getting bites, within a few minutes I caught my first fish, put up a decent fight for a 4yr old kid :biggrin2: . Another cast goes out and i'm onto my second small fish, a quick photo and a bit of teasing Dad and i'm fishing again, lost a few baits to sneaky fish that were stealing my bait but hooked my third fish eventually. Dad spoiled my fun as it was getting late and we had to go home so I could have my junk food fix "Maccas" and go to bed.

Final score was... Me-3 Dad-0, I rubbed it in and gave my old man some pointers on how to fish, hopefully he'll listen to me next time. :1prop::074:

Here's two photos Dad took on his phone of some of my catches.

    Cheers,

Go cameron  Top quality outing with dad and coming up with the goods :1yikes: gotta give dad some tips mate.

  6. Hey Fishraiders! This is our First Ever Dolphin Fish caught near Botany Bay Wide FAD

She measured 130cms and weighed 14kgs.

Caught on 50lb line and with a whole pilchard.

Made the rough morning seas all worth it!!

    caught Sunday 11am 17/10/10

What a ripper, they give a good fight at that size.Good to see it caught on pillies, did you have livebait out also??

    chris

  7. went for a fish with a mate down at berowra last sunday (oct 17), by 11.00am we had a nice feed of fish. 1 x jewy at 22lb and 1mtr long, 1x flatty at 7.5lbs and 72cm long, 1 flatty at 62cm long and 3 x flatys from 49cm - 56cm long the catch bag weighed in at 39lbs, great feed of fish and about time as the rest of my year has been a bit quiet. the jewy took out about 150mtrs of line on his first run and then a boat tried to cross the path of my line. i quickly opened the bail arm and dropped the rod tip to the water, the boat only just missed my line (lucky). he got a few nice names shouted at him and then i got back into the fight. Once i turned the fish i got right into him keeping him heading towards me. just as we landed him the other rod went off with the big flatty, it was mayhem for about 20mins. Great day , great catch and great weather, what more can you ask for......

Excellant catch, good to see another great post from the hawkesbury river system.Good to see you landed the mighty mulloway even after the close call with other boat. :yahoo:

  8. early start at 5.00am as tide change was 7.30am and we had an hour's run down the coast. water temp was 18 degrees which was a little up from last week. we did not anchor as we like to have a drift and see what bait is around and current etc. we fish floaters on the drift and also fish jigs for reds. first bait down was nailed and we had a hot bite for an hour. We managed ten reds today some nice solid fish included. Fish were caught on bait and jigs. Bait is on 6kg mono and jigs and 20lb braid with 20lb leader.

As soon as the nor easter kicked in combined with the current we were drifting at 2.7 knots. Way to quick. This also included the deployment of a sea anchor - all to no avail. So we run up the coast to waterfall and managed fourteen flat head in 35m of water before heading in. No sign of the dreaded leatherjacket!

A great day on the water catching some quality reds again. The last eight weeks has been some of the best fishing down south I have experienced for a few seasons.

Good luck to fish raiders if they manage to fish on the weekend.post-7298-060394300 1287658597_thumb.jpg

Good work piratin. Great feed of snapper there. Look forward to getting down there soon.

  9. Hey guys, ended up leavin at 4 in the morning we nailed 5 all up only keeping 2 one for myself and one for my mate what a top night!!! And surprisingly no Jews oh well can't complain we were just using California squid and mullet strips, and I love my portable DVD player sitting there between hook ups watching fishing DVDs lol I got some videos last night and hopefully with a little luck I'll be making a land based shark fishing DVD soon enough just need to add a couple big ones to my tally....

    Tight lines guys

Brett don,t worry about just using california squid,i nailed a 19kg on bottle squid on stockton beach this time last year, you should of persisted to sunrise as the tailor/salmon come on the bite so do jews if around and feeding.Plenty of sharks to contend with there also.Good luck on your dvd  .

  10. Hi raiders took the boys for a fish down the Nepean at cobbity yesterday arvo they had a great time caught two bass one carp one catfish and three eels all caught on worms cheers. tricky.

Hi tricky good catch, good to see the boys into there fishing. Were you near the weir, any size on the bass? :fisher: .

  11. Howdy raiders, took my Brother in law out today for a fish, Sam has only ever fished from the beaches for Tailor etc.

Gave SAM one of those ET Tablets and it worked a treat, we trawled for one Bonnie and headed for a flat head drift, we got 10 Flat head all nice and fat.

It slowed down after a while and I took Sam for a bottom Bash, we got 6 wrasse, couple of sweep, heaps of yellow tail( no need to buy bait for our next trip  )

heaps of snapper but all undersized :1badmood: and no Squid.

we packed up at 1.50pm and got back to the wharf and i was about to wrap the rope around the wharf anchor point and Sam jumps off  I called out no Sam, too late, He fell between the Boat and the wharf for a nice Soaking :074::risata: .

Lucky I had a spare jacket and pants in the Boat, I always keep spares just in case, you never know.

We cleaned the fish and headed home laughing all the way down rocky point rd.

Great feed as always, strange you didn,t find any squid.Lucky for sam you carry spare clothes  Good luck on your squid on your next trip out. :1fishing1: .

  12. I can't wait to get out on the water again. Its been a week since I fell on some oysters and cut my hand. Its not the injury that sucks... its the fact I can't wind a reel or launch a boat. You know you have a fishing addition when not being able to hold a rod is more concerning that being able to do you job or help with kids at home.

The craziest part... When I fell, I looked at my hand and saw it ripped to shreds but then I started to worry about my rod being snapped (it survived).

My fishing mate was excellent and drove me up to the hospital. I sat there for 3 hours waiting for a tetanus shot and to have the cut cleaned out.

Because the cut was so deep I got referred to a hand surgeon. Don't do this at home kids. The hand surgery was more painful than the fall when I woke up from the general anesthetic. Had several large oyster shards removed from the hand and then stitched back up. Very luck not to have done tendon or nerve damage.

Walked away from this one. Be careful on those rocks at night (even the rivers need to be shown some respect).

I'll get you next time Jewfish :1fishing1:

Ouch, sent a shiver down my back.Hope you heal quickly and get back into the fishing soon.

  13. Hit the Harbour today with Lumpookey and his son,

gathered an assortment of bait from the bait grounds and headed off to the kingie grounds.

Did abit of jiggie jig jig and set out the livies.

The action was abit slow and we had to work hard for a feed.

Water temp was good and we could have driven the boat to NZ as the conditions were perfect.

Landed kings between 69 and 89 cm.

Great results guys, lots of fun landing those beauties plenty of nice kingie dinners there :yahoo: did you land any on the jiggy jigs or did they all get caught on bait.

    Twin 1

  14. Hey raiders I'll be quick and concise cause I'm on a got bot landed 3 whalers to the 20kg mark so far tonight... The northern beaches are firing for the smaller sharks at the moment anyone keen to stretch line at dusk or dark who is strugglin for a Jew but wants a quality fish should it

    There not

    Monsters

By any means but that size will stretch you out and taste bloody good too!!!!!!! Get on the beaches boys have a crack and land one pm me if anyone wants to come out for a night there not the 150keg monsters dreams are made of but they will make your reel and your blood boil with excitement tight lines boys brett

Nice work brett good to see you landing a great feed.Don,t think it,ll be long before you nail a large jew as your definately fishing the right areas with big bait ZZZzzzzzzzzz can,t beat it hey? :fisher:

  15. Need to get new anchor / anchors . Those sarca anchors look expensive but are they any good and do you still lose them ? Am I better off getting the usual reef pick and sand plough ? It would be nice to be able to only carry one anchor even though I mainly fish reef there are times when we need the sandy . Any other options that are worth the coin ?

    Thanks

Hey slink mate use a reef anchor to suit boat, don,t go over kill.At retrieve time take up slack and motor to the side SLOWLY. at worst senario prongs straighten a bit,as for plough anchor there excellant in mud/sand.I carry the two mate and chain/ ropes to cover all areas just feel more comfortable. Most times reef anchors hold you still on sand if chain is adequate and its not overly windy.

  16. I tried a new bait formula that we concocted and tried it out around Lion Island for about 3 hours, the results were 4 flounder ranging from 29 to 36cm and 3 small Flatheads. Prawns and soft plastics NIL!!!

The big plus for the day was we found a new live bait gathering ground :yahoo: producing yellow tail and poddy mullet, just what we needed for the upcoming Hawkesbury Classic.

    Regards Jeff

That is a fantastic new formula catch?Top results mate.

  17. Mongo's post promped me to tell of my own recent experience. My missus, Jackie, had never fished and wasn't interested either, this was to change. Earlier this year we were on a caravan tour of SA, and stayed at Port Neil for a week. I convinced her to come out of the comfort of the van and onto the Jetty whilst i fished, she declined the offer of a rod. So I asked her to hold my rod whilst I set up a second one (sneaky eh) I took my time.

Suddenly she squealed 'theres somthing on the rod' and made to pass it back to me, i said 'well wind the bl**y thing in then, turn the handle'! she squealed and wound it in, landing a Tommy Rough, her face was a picture, excitement and wonder, she asked me to take it off and bait up so she could catch another (eh?) I have never seen her so excited, laughing and gleeful. she landed 12 in the next hour before they went off the bite, i got 2 because i was busy unhooking a, baiting and showing her how a rod worked, and how to cast.

we were down the Jetty fishing every day for the rest of the week, Jackie mixed up the berley every night so she could take me fishing early each day. the rest of the holiday was spent looking for ports with Jetties, or easy rocks to fish off as we added to her species list (I was recovering from neck surgery, so couldn't get to the spots i usually would)

When we returned home, we fished the local resivoir, but she complains it is dull compared to the sea. we are of to Windang in our vintage caravan in a couple of weeks, for a weeks fishing, we're bringing the tinny. WE are looking forward to it, SHE has started mixing berley already.........

Great report, good to see jackie is keen on her fishing. That jetty looks familiar, when i was down that way, look forward forward to your future posts.Did you eat the tommy ruffs?

  18. As we all had the PH I thought I would take my Dad and Son out on the harbour for the first outing of the season. Slept through the alarm, so only got out of bed at 7.15, had meant to be at Tunks by 6, but what do you do. Had promised the Hugs and Kisses that we would be home by lunch, so even less fishing time. Bloody Daylight savings!!!!

Rang the old man and said we were on the way but had to stop for fuel, as we drove out of the petrol station saw the sign for bait, Bugger left ours at home, stopped and bought more. Got to the ramp about 8.15 and got on the water. It was like mud after the rains, so we did not hold much hope but better on than off the water.

Headed to our fav yellow tail spot and anchored, berlied and started to catch fish, nothing exciting but fish were coming over the side. Happy days. Then I looked to Nth Head and the storm was coming, reckoned I had a good 20 mins before we got wet. So we packed up and by that stage it started to pelt down at this stage realised that I had left my new wet weather jacket at home as well as my sons. Bolted to hide under Spit Bridge, anchored off the side to ride out the rain, soaked through, Police came and told us to move on.

By this stage the rain had stopped so we thought we would try again. As my son is getting into fishing thing we thought we would just have some fun so back we went. Got him going with one of those Jap bait rigs and we used hand lines.

He smashed us. I thought I had a good one and did for a 30cm black bream. We then went on to get bone fish, wrasse, squires, sweep, trevalla, and many other varieties but no yellow tail. Just as we called stumps my son hooks what looks like a cracker and was a 37cm Black Bream.

What day turned out to be, boated over 40 fish, two keepers and home in time for the H & K

Better late than never, top quality bream by your son hard to beat that on any good day very well done :yahoo:

  19. gday raiders, I fished the harbour last night after work for 1 jew 55cm and 2 tailor 44cm each. It was a cold night but I was finally rewarded around 4am this morning with a small jew. not a real biggun but at least it was the targeted species!Hopefully the fishing will only get better for here into summer.

    pete.

    post-8689-043900000 1285929318_thumb.jpg

Great report nice to go after a target species and put it on the dinner plates, well done

  20. This is my first fishing report but had to write about a great day fishing with my daughter, Bekki, today (04/10/2010). Went out about 10.30am for a few hours boating with a bit of fishing. Overcast with an occasional shower. Put in at the boat ramp at Gosford and headed up to Paddy's Channel to fish the last couple of hours of the run out. Anchored up near the oyster leases. A few small bream (caught by Bekki) on prawns followed up by two 58cm lizards. My daughter's first real fish and she was excited (almost as much as me). Highlight of the day, though was the one that got away. It went downstream, then went upstream, couldn't stop it no matter how much drag we put on, before it went around an oyster post and busted Bekki's line. I think a bream, a big bream. Great Day !

:1welcomeani: Good team work guys, nothing wrong with a good feed of flathead, salad and chips. The smile on bekkies face :biggrin2: i don,t think you,ll be fishing alone much :1fishing1:

  21. well we went out and first stop was the peak..

sounded out and what do we see .... BLOODY Jackets ....:ranting2:

droped downd couple lost gear ..

sounded out again and again... BLOODY Jackets.:ranting2:

moved out to the 12 for tide change..

    sounded out.... BLOODY Jackets....:ranting2:

Do you see a theme happening here.:1wallbash:

couple guys were donating some very nice bling and i was luckiest and used el cheapos so the 4 or 5 i donated was ok i suppose but i lost abot 230mtres of braid as at the end i was only just able to get to bottom with couple wraps of backing on spool.

    post-2219-033026200 1286112728_thumb.jpg

the jackets were 40-50 metres deep and wide in huge patches..

we marked a nice show of kings and right beside them .... yes the pirranas of sydney...

we set a drift and i took that pic of my spool as i was nearin the bottom.

about 15 - 20 metres on way up i come up solid and im on..

    mates on as well.

    woooo hoooooo.

we do the kingy 2 step crossed lines etc and he swings a rat aboard. mmm not good sign but i call mine for a keeper & mines giving a good acount of itself..

i soon get color and its a keeper at 73cm :1punk:

another rat gets swong aboard then we lose the school..

we marked a couple small patches amongst the plague of jackets but they were moving around alot.

i kept trying a couple more drops but with such a low amount of line was too hard so i baited up on me livey rod.

donated some traces and big fresh greeneyed and cuttles..

then as i was bouncing my twin strip baits i got snagged up.

mmmm up drag from 4kg to 7kg thumb spool and straight rod it up..

free, mmmm bit heavy so might have bottom...

    no maybe big cuttle..

after a couple minutes it give head shake and under heavy drag i pull up a 83cm skinny kingy..wtf.:1yikes:

so be warned if ya going out,get cheap jigs plenty of spare line and prey to the fishing gods as its hard out there off sydney and also down the coast from what ive heard..

    the 73cm king weighed 4kg and the skinny 83cm 5kg ..

    post-2219-095147400 1286113858_thumb.jpg

good luck to those going out...

    cheers...steve.....

Good to see a few kings come aboard after all that effort. .

We definately need a leatherjacket comp i,ll definately be in for that one They definately make offshore fishing expensive don,t they :ranting2: .
