  1. The only issue here is you getting down to Berra Mondo. Promises promises
  2. Very nice flattie there Moro Mou!! AND NICE WORK ON THE LIGHT TACKLE TOO!! looks like you had a good end to a good weekend!!
  3. Thanks guys, It would appear that the warmer weather really get the lake going, I fish there all yare round And must say that the winter period is definitively no were near as productive. With the Reddies you really need to go a bit deeper especially on the warmer days as you will find the bigger ones around the 5 to 7 meter, the Governor Generals is a good spot for larger Reddies also if you have a look at this map of the lake available here http://downloads.nationalcapital.gov.au/ex...terWays_map.pdf , you will be able to see the old river before the lake was flooded, that’s were you will find majority of Natives and Reddies. The Yellow Belly was caught on a hard body lure; the same that I have used to catch countless amounts of Reddies on, it’s a large-ish bib lure 3 to 4 m, brown on top, yellow and red on the belly, a very versatile lure. Again the lure was taken just by the boat, I think the Yellow Belly follow the lure till the very end and then strike, awesome fighting fish on light tackle
  4. Hi Raiders, Quick report for the Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra for the Australia Day long weekend. The Redfin are firing hard at the moment due to the warm weather and the warm water, surface temp was 29 deg this afternoon. Myself and a couple of my mates managed to fish in rather windy conditions for approximately 2 ½ hours, anchored off my favourite spot I managed to bag a nice 1.7kg 44cm Yellow Belly and together with my mates several good size reddies,
  5. Looks like you had a good day out! well done!
  6. The bait varies from day to day with Reddies, for me anyway, There was a period couple of years ago when I was only getting Reddies on SP, usually Gulp in pumpkin seed colour and also SP in dark red colours, and the occasional hard body lure. I also hear of some using worms exclusively and swearing by this type of bait. The Reddies above were all caught on a hard body lure, brown on top, orange and yellow on the belly, I usually troll until I hit a school of them and stop and work that area by casting around, Reddies are a school fish and will move is swarms and like water around 5 to 7 m deep. Below is a picture of some that I got last night on the same lure, I have two lures that look virtually identical, one is a chepo $8 job and the other a $18 Rapala, I got 5 to 1 on the cheap lure compared to the Rapala? I guess expensive or brand lures are not always that effective??? Grebbo
  7. Well done mate! Very nice flattie, some people are just knobs, let’s hope next time they hook up there is no landing net insight....
  8. Thanks mate, Yeh, the big Reddie is one of the larger ones that I have ever cought at the lake, looking foward to cooiking him up tonight for dinner. Grebbo
  9. Thank you, Awesome eating indeed, sweet white flesh and very tasty too. I have been eating them out of that lake for some years now and always am amazed how good they are...
  10. Funny you should mention that, because the big one spat out couple semi decomposed fish, most likely smaller reddies, and you would not believe this but the hot spot is where you and I caught that large Redfin last time you and I went out! Its proving to be a good spot....
  11. Hello Raiders!! Quick report on the smoking conditions on the Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra. Had a blast of a session last afternoon, took the boat and the missus out on the lake around 6.00pm and fished till dark, bagged 15 reddies and let couple of littlies go (even though you are not allowed to but I started to run out of room in my kill tank, good problem to have I guess) The largest Reddie was 39cm long, which took what felt like 5 minutes to bring in, spooling the 4 pound braid nearly out couple of times, it was awesome! Very good fighters with lots of stamina. The water temp is up (28 deg at the surface) and the reddies are swarming, at one stage every cast produced a fish, even on a stationary lure that was left unattended as I was landing a fish for my better half! I would seem that the lake was full of boats yesterday and by the looks of things everyone had a good session, judging by the fish size and quantity being cleaned at the boat ramp. Will try again tonight and see how we go! Grebbo
  12. Here are some squid that Mondo and I picked up one arvo, again, I was amazed how quickly he can find a good spot and land them, and just totally unrelated to fishing is a photo of 3 kookaburras on Mondos balcony? I really see one but 3 so close was a real treat!!
  13. Well Simon, I must say You are “The Man” when it comes to Squid fishing!!! Several times now I have come out with you we landed some good size squid, I must make another trip up soon! Well done, bet they tasted yummy as well!
  14. the good thing about the lakes is that there is plenty of carp, and Redfin so take your pick, I'M sure Mondo would find some worms to catch somewhere along the shore line
