  1. G;day All, Got out on Thursday, 5am launched the Pogoboat Solo at bayview shot up to the back of Barrenjoey looking for Mr Squidley. No luck there but picked up a couple just around from West head. Grabbed a few yakkas at the pillbox, some nice gars in the berley trail,(might look into a feed of gars next trip) big improvement on last trip when it was sweep city. Shot around to Hardies Bay to pick up the neice and nephews. Tried slow trolling squid and yakkas around the front of Box Head, one big bust off but no further action. Back into Brisbane waters and a few drifts for a couple of just keeper flathead and some undersize whiting. Back to hardies bay to pump some yabbies, kids love that, and then back to a few drifts. Plenty of undersize fish and dropped a real crocodile boatside just north of the Rip Bridge. By 5pm the weather wasbrewing up so dropped Brother in law and the kids back and headed across BBay. Half way across, with a filthy thundery brewing up behind Patonga, the birds are going off. Had to have a cast, for scientific purposes only, fantastic,,, mixed schoolof salmon and good size choppers, tried to get a lure underneath them to see if a kingie was lurking, but they were hitting on the drop. probably had 8 casts for 6 fish, I love salmon dont they go, and then wind changed from 10 kt westerly to 20- 30 Northerly with a real warm feel and I thought lets not push this and ran for Bayview. Got to winji jimmy bay and the wind was blowing all the soil that the council have laid on the dog park right across the bay, had to put my sunnies back on to keep the grit out of my eyes. Just got to the wharf and the wind died dead and stayed that way until about two minutes after I got the pogoboat back on the trailer solo. Thanks Huey. Does any body know what the council are building on the southern side of the parking lot at rowlands reserve. All in All a good fun day Regards POGO
  2. Got out for a quick one thurs nite spent a while at the ramp fitting my new battery, rushing trying to get out as soon as possible, battery in , tilt motor, hmmmm , why does it go down when i press the up button, dohhh, back to square one, slow and steady wins the race, reconect batterywith correct polarity, give myself clip over ear and some very small credit for spotting the obvious error befors turning on electics aor trying to start motor. A bit of sp work along the back of Palm Beach and then a couple of drifts for a couple of bream 29 and 30.5 cm all in all pretty quiet sorry about the lack of punctuation and capital letters, typing with one hand with a crying baby on my lap regards pogo
  3. Dont know if it helps but I do my drag washers on a small sheet of glass about the same size as you describe, just place a piece of fine wet and dry emery paper on and use oil or water to lubricate and remove cuttings. Your local glazier should be able to help you out, get a thick bit if you can, mine is 5 mm I think. Regards Pogo
  4. Thanks guys That pretty much confirms my research, The sonnenschiens wont be free, probably wholesale, from a mate in the battery game. I get across to the states now and then so what I might do is track down a charger over there (West Marine Zantrex looks pretty good or find a Guest) and make this a bit of a long term project. For the time being I'll head down the route of a AGM deep cycle to get me out on the water. The problem I have at the moment is that the pogoboat lives streetside at a mates place. so onboard charging isnt really an option unfortunately. I really want to get my MK fitted and turn the pogoboat into a stealthfighter. so Il make up a battery box that I can easily get the deep cycle in and out and run with that for the time being. The eventual goal will be to fit Sonnenschien under the centre Console, but that will make access more difficult and require onboard charging. Once again many thanks for the input Regards Pogo
  5. G'day All, Hope you all had a great christmas. Getting organised to fit a MK bow mount onmy boat and am looking at batteries. I'm in the fortunate position of being able to score a gel cell (Sonnenschein) to use as the power source for the MK. and pssibly another to use as a starting battery Have got a batterry Isolator, (Charges second battery when first Battery exceeds 13.7 V The question is will charging the gel cell, (Max charge Voltage 14.4) from the boat alternator end up destroying the Gell Cell battery. I think it will, based on the research I've done Is there such a critter around that will limit the charge voltage to the gell cells or do I have to go down the route of tring to get the alternator on the motor (Mariner 125) changed or adjusted to limit its voltage. Regards Pogo
  6. G'day Jethro, I just brought a Ripe tide AUtopilot bowmount 55 back from the states. I paid 719 USD. No problem getting it back in you may have to pay duty on the price above your duty free allowance (400AUS) but that will depend on the customs oficer you get. My only caution would be, especially if its your mum bringing it back, that they are large, bulky and difficult to transport Mine was in a box about 5feet long and a foot by two square and weighed 26 kg so you might get biffed for excess baggage as well. Still trying to find time to fit mine but looking forward to it Regards POGO
  7. Ive only had one rod shipped to me US to AUS and that was only because there was absolutely no chance of ever getting one here. Ibought the rod on EBAY and then got the seller to pack it in its alloy tube and then into a pvc pipe ( The pressure variety). Got here ok but I was sweating on it.big time. It also wasnt that long, 3 feet in its case. I think you stand a good chanceif you can get them packaged well regards Pogo
  8. Interested to here about the Redington AL 9/10 How is the reel going , Ive bid on a couple on ebay but have decided to try and get an ML 9/10 which was the precursor to the brakewater be interested to here feedback on redington fly reels regards POGO
  9. Some great deals out there on Ebay Got a sustain 4000 NIB 180 US and just got an OKUMA Titus 15 2 speed for 147 USD plus 29 postage I guess there is a lot of buyer beware involved but if you do youre research and dont get carried away with it you can do pretty well Ive also bought a bunch of fly fishing gear there is some great stuff around that never makes it to the Australian Markets. and flylines are great prices. One lesson is dont get carried away bidding on something everything turns up again and you can pay to much only to see the same item sell for half the price afew weeks later example someone paid 192 US for the same titus 15 that I got for 147 just a few days earlier. Got to say that Ive bought around 20 items using ebay and have not been ripped off in fact quite the opposite, a couple of sellers have thrown in some freebies, (leaders, flies etc). and the only time I started to worry about delivery (late) the seller offered to refund. Item turned up a couple of days later, problem at my post office I think. But a please dont bid against Aussiefisho cos thats me. Regards Pogo
