  1. Took out the plate that ron.c pointed out and the gear linkage was there, loosed these two bolts and and 4 lower bolts and the gear case came off quite easily. Took the housing off and looked pritty good under there. Only problem i had was fitting the new impeller in, once i figured it out come together quite easily. Finished in about an hour Tried to change the gear oil but couldn't get the damn screws off to empty the oil, might have to soak them in wd-40. Thanks for the help guys, looking forward for fishing tomorrow if the wind slows down :ranting2:
  2. Cheers guys i mite have a go at it tomorrow as the impeller arrived today, will let you know how i go. Don't think ill be able to find a short drive shaft to convert it.
  3. Ok thanks for that, can i remove the extension and make it a short shaft because my hull requires a short shaft outboard i think, the cavitation plate is about 15-20 cm below the bottom of the hull which affects performance i guess?
  4. Hi, i have a early 80's model Suzuki dt28 outboard that i will be doing a impeller change on sometime during the week. I was just wondering with the following picture will i have to remove the top bolts marked red or the bottom bolts to gain access to the impeller. Is there a shift linkage or anything like that that i need to disconnect before removing the housing. Also when changing the gear oil is it just removing the screws which i marked, then fill from the bottom hole until oil starts coming out of the top hole? Appreciate the help Cheers
  5. A monster of a jew mate, smile in the first pic says it all
  6. Cheers for the comments guys, i was about 5 minutes downstream from the national park, never knew they came that far upstream
  7. fellow raiders with the top of tide at 12pm on sat in the Georges, we decided to head off in the morning. me, brother and a mate were up early. first stop had to pick up the father in law, then off to a mates house to pick up the boat (long story about why the boat isnt at my place) got there, took the tarp off to find boat filled with water due to the recent rain we have had, plus a nice looking red back spider that escaped 15 min later we were off got to the ramp at 9am, we were expecting fireworks today so got to the spot and burlyed up hard on chicken pellets. 15 mins in and my mate was on...38 flatty half hr went by and the brother was on..zzzz was the noise that we wanted to hear and we did. after a fun fight with the fish diving, circling the boat and the subsequent shout outs about what it was; big bream no, schoolie nah, silver comes up...turns out to be a salmon it went 50cm on 6lb fireline and 6lb leader with a 2000 spinning reel we were stocked as it was our first salmon being caught and my bros PB keep burlying up...had the rod in my hand then i felt a tug, boom rod bent over next thing you know its off and running zzzzzzzzzzzzz pulling line like ive never felt before. couple turns of the handle and again zzzzzzzzz FARK! at this stage the fish was quite a distance away. turns of the handle, wait for the pull was what went on for about 5 mins. we had a heart in the mouth moment as well as the bugger decided to run towards the banks. shit! gotta try to hold on, managed to turn it back. fish started to tire which gave me an opp to get some line in until it got towards to boat. couple of runs towards the anchor, round the boat left right i dont know what. thinking it mught be a good size jewie however would be weird for a jewie to have these types of runs. shouting out get the net, fish came up to my amazement, SALMON once again and this time it was big and fat (for me anyways). measured it up and it went 60cm on 10lb fins braid and 12lb leader with 2500 spinning reel. what a great fight ended up with one more salmon and another good fight for 48cm after that it went fairly quiet with a few small bream and we called it a day now i understand salmon arent the best eating, so this is the perfect time to pass them onto relos that always nag ya for fish anyways until next time..here are some pics
  8. My boat is already registered, its 14ft and has a 28hp outboard, so it will do over 10 knots, doesn't that mean i need a license regardless if i go over 10 knots or not?
  9. Just thought id update the thread, started the outboard again, still with muffs, this time with full tap pressure though. Pumped water great after about 5 seconds Might take it out next weekend if i can get my boat license sorted Cheers for the help.
  10. Hey mate i recently went through all this, was abit of a pain but worth it in the end. Before you do anything make sure you get a receipt from the owner with full details including the boats HIN number and the trailer VIN number on the receipt. For the trailer if it has been unregistered for more then 3 months then it will need a blueslip, you can find mechanics here http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/index.cgi?fuseaction=inspectionstation.form you need the Unregistered Light Vehicle Inspections. Take it to them with the old rego papers and they should be able to provide you with a blueslip which you can take to the RTA to register the trailer. Just make sure your wheel bearings, whinch, tyres, etc are all good before going. For the boat you need a receipt with: * Full name and signature of the seller * Full name and address of the buyer * Date of sale and the words ‘received payment in full’ or similar * HIN/Boatcode number (if applicable) and a full description of the vessel Take that to a boat code agent with your boat and get a hull ID certificate which you take to maritime with your receipt. Hope it helps mate, can be a pain but just make sure you get a proper receipt from the seller.
  11. These are the muffs i have, they seem to cover the inlets good.
  12. I was feeling air coming out of the telltale, the muffs are brand new but the tap wasn't on full whack maybe 2 or so turns. Ill give the ideas here a try and let you know how it turns out
  13. Yea i started the motor with muffs. When i bought the boat the motor was in a big bucket with water and was pumping water fine. Ill try with the bucket again and if that still doesn't work ill change the impeller. How hard is it to change the impeller on this style of motor? Ive got friends that can help with which have good mechanical knowledge.
  14. I can't remember if water was coming out near the prop. Ill run at again on the weekend, ill run it with a bucket aswell to see if that makes a difference. This is almost exactly the same as my outboard. Is the telltale the one spitting out water?? All i got from there was air.
  15. Didn't know the correct term and found pee hole on another website :074: Don't think there was any leaks or anything? Ill try and unblock it and run it for abit longer next time i start it. How long can it been running before it can overheat and cause damage?
  16. Hi guys, I recently bought my first boat, i started the outboard (suzuki DT28) for the first time in about a month. Put the muffs on and started it up, ran fine but there was no water coming out of the pee hole? I only ran it for around 10 seconds at a time, do i need to run it longer for the thermostat to open and then the water will start coming out? Cheers
  17. Bias said they could order one in, went to my local boat mechanic and ordered one in, should be in today. Cheers
  18. Cheers mate, just found one online, it looks like a CC179 cable. Just gotta find one in Sydney otherwise will order one from internet. Will give Huey a call tomorrow.
  19. Hi raiders, I recently bought my first boat with a 28HP Suzuki outboard, I think its a early 80's model. I need a new control cable for the forward/reverse as the inside has perished. I went to a boat shop and they said that they don't carry these types of cables and that i should get it directly from Suzuki, but i cant find there spare parts centre?? I have included pictures of the two ends of the cable, where can i get a new cable? Thanks for the help.
  20. Cheers mate, ill be fishing from a boat. Will go and have a look at some options today.
  21. Cheers mate, how about a ugly stick gold 7ft 6-10KG. Are these rods any good?
  22. Hi Raiders, Im thinking about getting a Shimano Baitrunner DL 4000 for jews, kings, etc. I mainly baitfish so im thinking this will be good for that purpose? Should i go with braid or mono? 20LB braid or more? Also what rod should i match it up with? Ive heard good things about the Silstar Crystal 6-10kg or is there anything more suitable? I will be mainly boat fishing. My budget is around $250 for the rod and reel. Cheers Matt
  23. :074: :074: I was thinking this is too good to be true.
  24. Can nippers stay alive in freshwater? Ive got a spare 35cm tank and was wondering if i can keep them there until needed?
