  1. Hey Guys,

Can anyone explain to me where the fish disappear to when there is a strong current ???

As everyone knows by now i mainly fish the Georges River and as such conditions are generally pretty good, ie. no rough water, etc...

But i have noticed that i get heaps of bites from big fish when the current is not too strong...

When the current changes to strong usually at the change of tides, the big fish disappear and only the little buggers hang around....

Again, where do these bigger fish get to?? Do i need to change tactics to attract them again or find them again ???

  2. I lost my sand anchor yesterday, so i headed to Bias boating for a new one as i wasn't sure if the old one i had at home was big enough for my boat.

I was advised that it was more for a tinnie as it was small. Best advice was to get the right one for my boat or i can get a heavy chain to weight it down. I decided to buy a new one for only $21 and keep the small one in the boat for emergencies.

The salesman at the store was very helpful and explained to me some stuff that i wasn't aware of.

He asked me how long was the chain attached to the anchor. I told him about 1 metre.

He advised me that this was too short and would cause my boat to move in choppy waters or when the current was strong. In this aspect he was correct as i have experienced on many occasions the boat moving and had to be reanchored.

He advised that the chain should be at least half the length of the boat. In my case my boat is 15ft half cabin, so i should have a chain of around 7 foot plus. Too me this seemed too long, but i understood the logic behind it so i also bought the extra bit of chain (10ft). So i will see on my next few trips if this stops the boat from moving.

He also advised that i could tie a cable tie to the shackle or wire to stop it from releasing in future. But as a general rule this should be checked prior to any trip.

Has anyone had any experience with this and advice?

    Thanks. Majed.

  3. Hi All,

Another top days fishing at my favourite Georges River Spot.

Headed out at 5am from home with my dad and son. In the water fishing at 6:15am.

Tide was high, current was good and weather looked fine with some cloud about but no wind. :1fishing1:

Lots and lots of bites. By 8am we had 10 very nice bream ranging from 25cm - 35cm.

Can't believe the success we have been having lately. :1fishing1:

Around 8am, the current changed and was now moving very fast, this changed the pattern and for the next 2 hours we were getting only little nibbles.

Moved to another spot which seemed to be better. Threw in anchor, but unfortunately the anchor broke free from the chain. The U bolt came loose and now we become anhorless.... :05:

Did not have a spare anchor with me so we started drifting. Again some good bites and a couple of nice bream bagged. I lost one huge fish just beside the boat which felt like a jewie...(it snapped my line from the swivel down)

A few minutes later, my dad hooked a huge fish and was struggling to reel it in. He too unfortuntely had his 9lb line snapped.

After 1/2 hour we decided to head back to our original spot as the water is calmer and i would be able tie the boat to a pylon and fish.

As soon as we threw the lines in my son bagged a lovely 37cm bream.....and then another 26cm

    I bagged a tailor......and dad bagged a couple more breams. :1fishing1:

Again at the end of the day we had a lovely bag of 19 bream and 1 tailor. As i have been eating a lot of fish lately, my sister and cousin were to be the lucky ones to enjoy these fish for dinner.

Having been on a really great run fishing the last couple of weeks. Calm waters, stress free and pure enjoyment with family......Hopefully more to come.......

Get out there everyone and enjoy the great waters we have...beats working.... :1prop:

  4. Thanks Johnno for fixing pics...

I was very suprised i caught fish. The water colour was brown and for the first half hour we got no bites. Then we started getting big hits and started hauling the bream.

There were no other species caught. We didn't even catch any undersize bream. We caught 8 bream and the smallest was 26cm.

The Georges River had been quiet for many months....I have started to catch fish the last 3 weeks only.

Especially after the rain, i honestly didn't think i could catch anything but i went out to enjoy the little sunshine we had. As a bonus we caught 8 lovely bream.

Como is very much underestimated, but at times there are also big Jews and flatties to be caught.

Perserverence is a must in fishing. If you don't catch on the day, enjoy your time out there as it beats working.... :1prop:

  5. Hi All,

Decided to go for a quick afternoon session today while the sun was shining. Took my dad and nephew along.

Got to the boat ramp at 1:30pm and found the water a horrible brown colour.

This is normal considering all the rain we have had.

Proceeded to the Moons with lots of debri in the water including floating logs along the way (quite dangerous). Fished for 5 minutes with no bites, so decided to proceed to Como bridge.

First 1/2 hour not one single bite. Was contemplating moving further to Captain Cooks bridge, when suddenly got a big hit which took my hook. Oh damn...

Next cast immeditaely got a huge bite and hooked. A beautiful 32cm Bream.... :)

    Next cast again, a 28cm Bream...you beauty.... :)

Nephew got into the action, and hooked 3 Bream between 26 & 30cm.... :)

Dad managed only one, but it was the biggest. A whopping 33cm Bream... :)

A great short session which landed us 8 Bream, with the smallest being 26cm...

Had to rush back to the ramp before the storm hits.....

    Here are the pics....

  6. Hi All,

Had a wonderful day today on the Georges River with a couple of personal records broken.

I went out with my good work mate Christos and enjoyed a really good day out in the water.

Started off around 8:30am this morning with minimal bites until around 11am when we started to get some really good constant bites at SPOT X. We had 2 rods each in the water and were kept very busy.

I got this huge hit on a twenty dollar rod and reel with a 4kg line. I could barely reel it in. I yelled out to Christos that this was a huge fish and get the net. We started to see colour and boy did it look great. Hauled it in. A whopping 44cm beautiful silver bream which weighed approx. 2 kg. What a beauty and the biggest bream i ever caught. You should have seen the beaming smile on my face all day. A delight to catch.

Not long after i got hit again and started to reel it in, but the line snapped. Oh damn.

Christos got a big bite and boy it was fighting hard. He gradually reeled it in and i got the net. A whopping 36cm Trevaly. This was also a record for Christos for this type of fish. Well doen mate. What a great day.

While i was on the phone, i got another hit and reeled it in. A nice 31cm bream. What a beauty, what a day.

There was also lots of Tarwhine to be caught and some whiting.

All up we came home with 4 whopping breams and a beauty of a trevaly, 4 whiting, some 25cm breams and numerous tarwhine. Enjoyed a niice packed lunch and drinks prepared by my beautiful wife.

p.s.. There were 2 other boats around us that didn't seem to catch anything. We were catching heaps due to our bread burleying.

All in all, what can i say, a wonderful day out fishing in glorious sunshine.

    Thanks. Majed.

    Can't seem to add pics...

  8. Oil leak fixed.

My cousin who is a motor mechanic dropped by this afternoon and had a look at the leakage.

He found the tilt gauge sensor which bolts into the cylinder was broken (it is a plastic thread type bolt).

As i don't have a tilt gauge on my dashboard, we decided to block the hole with another bolt which was modified to fit.

(was quoted today $52 for a replacement one, which i dont need anyway)

Topped up with hydraulic oil and tested a number of times up and down and thankfully no more leaks.

Thank you to all for your assistance.

    Majed.

  9. hey Majed,

Is the oil leaking from the same place as mine is ??? when you were over you said something about it leaking ???

No, yours was leaking from the o ring. This is the other side which i noticed 2 days ago.

  10. Hi,

Just noticed today the tilt / trim on my Evinrude 1977 70HP is leaking oil from the port side hydraulic cyclinder.

I have had a closer look at it and found there is a whole around 3/4 of the way down the cylinder where a bolt possibly was. When you tilt the outboard the oil gushes out of it. I noticed there is some sort of electrical connector which maybe part of some trim gauge on dashboards, which my boat doesn't have fitted.

I have tried numorous bolts to block the whole but they dont work. The whole seems to have plastic piece around the inside of the opening which is probably part of what was there b4 i noticed the leak.

Does anyone know what i can do to either remove the plastic insert and what i can use to block the whole?

    Thanks.

    Majed.

  11. Hi All,

Does anyone know how to fix box seats to fibreglass boat floors? ie. What type of bolts / screws to use and how do they actaully hold on the boat floor and do i need to use the special marine silicon for waterproofing?

I am actually thinking of making my own box bases for storage and attach them to the boat floor. Then affix a seat with a metal swivel on top of it.

    Thanks.

  12. I have just bought the 3 bow bimini from Bias Boating with the additional height feature. (I'm 6ft2). I have put it together, but am confused on which way it should fold.

I want to have it up over the windscreen and as far back as it will go. (it is 1.82m in length)

Ideally it should fold to the windscreen, but when folded it just about blocks the windscreen. So if i am driving with the bimini down, it will restrict my viewing. When up it is nice and high with plenty of head room once it is installed above the gunwales.

If i set it up to fold to the back of the boat, then it will hang across the boat.

Does anyone have these types of biminis on their boats and can guide me before i start drilling holes. Thanks.

  13. Hi Guys,

I want to install a bimini on my 15ft Cuddy Cab. I want to provide my kids the best protection from the harsh sun and rain. I can't afford an expensive one custom made, so i am trying to find a suitable one under $350.

I have looked around the boating shops and only seem to find the one brand (Oceansouth) in the stores. A 3 bow canopy with a length of 1.82m, width of 1.5-1.7, height 1.35m for $300. Soem people tell me you can't have it up over 15 knots. Is that so? Cause if it is, its not worth having. It defeats the purpose of buying one if you can't have it up while driving.

There is a more heavy duty one from the same brand called "whitewater bimini", but the length is only 1.23m, which when installed above the windscreen, dash and the steering wheel will barely cover us while driving.

Has anyone got any recommendations of what i should buy and where and are they ok to have up above 15 knots?

    Thanks in advance.

  14. I was over trimming it and as such the boat would tilt to one side.

I tried it a few times not trimming it manually when i pushed the throttle and it went fine.

Then i started to trim it a bit and it also went fine.

What i was doing wrong was basically trimming the engine too far up. Thanks.
