  1. Just back from a great wedding in Fiji, managed to get out to chuck a line in. Caught plenty of small tuna and saw fee jumping Sailfish, massive GT's and Wahoo had a few hits but no hook ups to the big ones. Managed to hook up on this Mahi Mahi though :0) We were chasing birds that must have been feeding on a bait ball the size of a footy field!!! Awesome!!
  2. Brilliant, cheers Damo. My number is 0432 332 200
  3. I snagged one a bit smaller the other week out at long reef, again it took a live yakka, let it go though as thought it was too mad looking to kill and eat! They weigh a lot for their size and seem to have way more ink thank squid. Are they good to eat??
  4. Hi Damo, do you do share charters? If so I would be really keen in going out chasing some Yellowfin/Albacore once the bite is properly on! Cheers ALI-G

    Yellowfin

Hi People, Can anyone recommend a good share charter that chases Yellowfin now the season is here, I would like to get out to the shelf!! Much appreciated!! ALI-G
  6. My mate caught a 60cm Spangley off the rocks at little manly A couple of weeks back on a servo prawn. I have caught a juvenile one in the harbour but not this big Was out yesterday and waters still 23deg!! Could only find rats though .
  7. Yeah I was out at the colours on Sunday, rats rats and more rats!!! Weird thing was they wouldn't touch live squid? But when we put out fresh squid strips they were smashing it! All around the 55-60cm mark. Great fun but no dinner!
  8. Went out from Rose Bay this afternoon at around 4.30. Was flat as a pancake despite the wind. Started to search for some squid with no results but then spotted some birds (The good kind, Terns!) over at Vaucluse bay. Zoomed over as fast as the 50 horses could gallop to find a couple of decent schools of fish literally smashing what must have been whitebait. First cast with a smallish 3in Giro Jig and it was taken on the drop but the hook didn't set!! Three more casts for zip??? Ok, ok match the hatch, dropped down to a smaller white and chrome river 2 sea 2in metal, first cast and boom! I was in!!! Wasn't sure what it was at first but it was fast! after a couple of minutes I had a good sized Bonito in the net!!! Stoked as it was my first one this year and I love eating them! After this it was literally a fish a cast for about twenty minutes, it was a mixture of very decent sized Bonnies and some smaller but equally greedy frigate mackerel. It was awesome watching them smash the lure on the surface from the side with their dorsal fins flaring, it's incredible just how fast they are! Kept 3 for the pot and 2 frigates to freeze for bait. Water temp was 20.2deg sword of choice was the lightest Shimano Terez (split butt), Shimano Twinpower 5000 JDM with 20lb pp and 20lb yo-zuri HD disappearing pink. Great afternoon. Was home with dinner on the table by 7.45!
  9. Yep it's 60cm & only one over 110cm in NSW for the Dollies, I've also seen quite a few boats keeping rat kings recently. They should have a big bag and size limit board at each boat ramp highlighting sizes & limits for the most popular & common species as a lot of the time I think it's just that people aren't informed. I suppose a 55cm king is still a large fish to most people. I have had the maritime guys stopping me for safety checks many times but never checkin my catch? They should also have representatives handing out new measuring stickers when they change size or bag limits (as they have with Mulloway recently) at the boat ramps on weekends. Just their presence at the boat ramps would act as a deterrent I recon. We also need more parking for trailers at Rose Bay boat ramp that is clearly marked as reserved for trailers!! Rant over. Tight lines......
  10. I had a big 1m+ king follow my squid jig up from the depths the other day and then he swam past my rigged live squid totally ignoring it! I was sure I was going to hook up! Gutted

    Dollies

Was out a few days ago and we were getting one a cast on giro jigs (metal slices), would recommend using single hooks to minimise damage on the undersized fish :0) Good luck!!!
  12. Got the squid at ladies bay, all caught on a 3.5 EGQLive brown jig, was out again today loads of tailor and salmon busting up kept one tailor for a feed. Only one small squid which again was mullered by fkn jackets!!! Saw smaller flying fish over near Balmoral, very odd? Also saw a police frigate escorting a massive submarine out to sea! zzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
  13. Had a quick run out yesterday afternoon, kept 3 big squid over a kilo each (one had eggs in :0() 2 other small ones as lives (eaten by jackets) There were what seemed to be loads of fish (bait maybe) at north head but they wouldn't touch plastics or live squid?? Photo attached (bit blurry) There were also 3 whales breaching and slapping about just off south head which was awesome!! have a vid but dont know how to attach? Tried to drop fresh squid head twice over the DPI artificial reef but got caught both times (why did they make it so high!!) any tips on fishing this structure would be appreciated!!! Also saw a couple of big flying fish literally 50m off the cliff at South head, I thought they were open water/tropical fish?? Water temp was between 17.5 and 18.5 deg. anyone got accurate gps coordinates for the colours reef please? No kings or snapper but Squid were very tasty! zzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
  14. Hi Raiders, I am looking to put a petition together to improve the facilities and parking at Rose Bay boat ramp (Lynne Park). This is the only boat ramp in the area other than botany or five dock????!!!!! They have just spent millions on upgrading the ramp and car park but there are major issues for boaters. It seems that the local Woollahra Council see this car park as a nice little revenue stream rather than what it should be which is a parking area that has adequate parking facilities for people launching their boats (as well as people using the ferries). There are no parking spots that are reserved for cars with trailers during the week and they are always taken up by commuters cars parked three deep in the trailer parking bays. At weekends there are parking bays that are exclusively reserved for cars with trailers, however they are very poorly signposted and the majority of the time again, these parking bays are three deep with cars that do not have trailers. (who sometimes receive fines) On a couple of occasions now I have been forced to park in spots that are reserved for council vehicles as they have been the only option for me after waiting for over 30 mins with my boat tied to the wharf with thousands of dollars of equipment left unattended. I have received heavy fines for parking in these spots ($160 a pop) with no recourse even though the bays reserved for cars with trailers have been taken by unauthorised cars that are without trailers. There is plenty of other parking available on the other side of Lynne Park for cars without boats but there are no signs informing people of this. It just seems ridiculous to me that they would spend all of that money upgrading the boat ramp and not make provision for the people that use this facility regularly. there is also nowhere to gut and clean fish or even a tap to flush your outboard or wash your boat. Admittedly not everyone catches fish and not everyone needs to flush their engine at the ramp! But these should have been considerations when the improvements were made. Recently the council had also approved the Moscow Circus a permit to make camp next to the car park without any provision whatsoever for the extra traffic. It was a nightmare for anyone attempting to launch a boat and park their trailer afterward. Basically, if you want to do a mid-week or afternoon session on the weekend you are going to be screwed. I don't know how we would approach this, whether it is the Council or the Maritime people we need to lobby? I appreciate a lot of you may not live in the eastern suburbs but as people who pay or rego's and licencing fees we are ALL paying for something that just isn't benefiting the very people it was supposed to. Any ideas on who we need to lobby would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
  15. All on waxwings and soft plastics just outside south head
  16. Its going to be a hectic summer! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

  18. Was a Shellharbour today, very windy so no boats out but heaps of diving birds moving very fast. Tuna I recon
  19. Its amazing to see what sea life is about at the moment! I was out a couple of weeks ago and within ten minutes saw two pods of dolphins, penguins, three seals and then a black Marlin jumping just outside the heads! loads of salmon about too but no kings :0( Headed out this arvo. weather is awesome!
  20. Yes but where to catch the squid!!!!!! I've managed only one the last few trips out in Port jackson. Been getting yakkas at clifton if you persevere to get through the sweep! Had a giant squid bite a huge chunk out of a big live yakka at the last green marker buoy near the heads but it wouldn't take a jig. Headed out weds arvo, weather is looking slick! Is long reef just off manly out the heads? anyone got gps coordinates please? Cheers!!
  21. Just a quick tip, I was casting poppers but had powerpro depth hunter braid spooled on my reel and kept getting bitten off by toothy critters, I suppose they could see the markings on the braid moving through the water and were attacking it! I lost 3 poppers and had no access to any more. Next time I'll be using single colour braid!
  22. Thanks chaps, I have just discovered the Maria Deep snare lures too 5-9m depth and can troll at 6-12knots! Doesn't changing the hooks make them unbalanced? I can understand for poppers sliders etc but deep divers???
