  1. Hi Raiders, Caught about 500 mtrs west of Flint and Steel by my son.
  2. Who will they call when their boat is taking on water, or the battery is flat or their fishing mate has passed out. Karma is a B****H
  3. I saw that, it was in NZ where there are some massive KINGS
  4. That's exactly what I said to my Cuz after I saw the photo. He measured it, and swore blind that it was 75cm.
  5. Hi Raiders, Hit the Hawkesbury at 8.00am this morning for the first time in a long time. Aiming to be at the "Birds Nest" at Spectacle Island, Mooney Mooney Creek (deep hole), one hour before the 11.30 high., Headed to Flint and Steele to check in on the action. Drifted for no luck. There were a few bust ups and we managed five Taylor spinning metal Slugs. Lots of fun. Headed off up river. Arrived at the "Birds Nest' early. The tide was running hard. Very quiet. I said to cousin Joe, we need to wait for the tide change, and wait we did. Right on the tide change (11.25), cuz is on zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, hooked up to a huge bream. It went 40cm to the fork, was fat and had a huge mouth. Took a few happy snaps and off she went back to the depths. I had two rods out, one heavy with a whole pillie and the other light with a pillie tail. I get an awesome hit and I'm on, its like a freight train. It was on the light gear (of course). I had a ball playing this fish, had a few nervous moments when the fish headed for the prop. It came to the boat three times before she succumbed. I pulled up a Jewie that went 75cm. Not huge, however had a lot of fight in her. She too smiled for the camera and was released. Had a great day. Happy fishing Phat
  6. Cool vid and one very big squid
  7. Saw a fella using one of these to catch mullet. He said he bought it on Ebay, I had a look and found this. Are they legal her in Oz?
  8. Chur Chur Bro, My daughter has just moved to NZ (married a Kiwi) and will be settling in Tauranga. I have visted twice and fished Opape (charter) for an insane session on the Reds and Kahawai (our Aussie Salmon), they taste better in NZ. Going back in Feb to hit the kingfish out of Tauranga and to visit my daughter (of course). Really thinking of moving over there, love Mount Maunganui. Good luck with your job and move and no need for luck with the fishing. John
  9. Great family site, well administered, no rubbish tolerated. Informative, interesting and a good laugh. Thanks to all the crew behind the scenes that put in a big effort to make Fishraider tick. Congrats to all we Fishraiders that make this site awesome.
  10. I just got back from NZ. It was the best fishing experience I have had and not because of the number and size of the fish we caught, but because of the people. Polite and friendly fishers willing to share their space and a story. Loved it. Took the boat out last week (Botany Bay), anchored, set my lines and within 30 minutes there were three boats all over me. The guys in the boats were together and had me so frustrated and fearful that I upped anchor. They had a good laugh and jiberred in their own tongue as I motored off. I'm going back to NZ.
  11. Forget fishing. Become a writer. Actually, fish some more and write about it. Enjoyed the read.
  12. Hey Keflapod, The only reason I knew they were Italian is because my mumma and papa were born in Italy, so I understood the lingo. I have to say that your Italian is excellent. LOL. You are right about their reaction when I let it him go. To quote one of them " Ma questo e pace !!!". Which loosely translates to 'this guy is crazy" John
  13. Hey Raiders, Not much happening this week with the rain, so I spent much of the weekend doing maintenance work on rods, reels and re-tieing lines. I did get down to the wharf at the Moral on Wednesday last week. Was surprisingly quiet. No fishos (had the wharf to myself), not many fish, not much at all. Tried for squid, zilch, flicked a few SPs, zilch, soaked a pilchard or two, zilch. I resorted to spinning a metal slug. Big cast, one left and then one right, one short and then one long followed by a quick retrieve or jerky retrieve or a slower retrieve. Did this 40 or 50 times maybe more. Getting a bit over it, I thought I would pull the pin, when out of the blue this lone salmon comes up from the depths and smashes my Halco metal slug, just at my feet. I saw him come from down deep like a torpedo, wow !!!! what a sight. There is no better sight for a fisho than seeing a fish hit your lure. The fight was about 4 minutes long, I'd get some line back and once he saw the wharf he was off again. I managed to draw a crowd of Italian tourists that were just walking by. As if on cue the Salmon would jump to the oohhs !!! of the tourists. I landed him without a net and took this pic then let him go, so he could give some fisho a great thrill.
