  1. Hey Bartos, My mate and I head out in Botany almost every weekend at some point if the winds are right. We are relatively new to yal fishing but have been fishing for a few years. We have see the same results from the yak and managed a few feeds over the past couple of weeks. Let us knwo if you would like to meet up. We will be heading out tomorrow in Botnay. Hopefully to catch a few flatties, whiting and possibly squid if the water is right.
  2. Hi All, Thanks for the tips I am still testing Yaks out and will hopefully make up my mind before summer. At the moment I leaning towards the prowler 4.3 only due to price and all round capabilities. The PA12 is awesome but a bit heavy and pricy. I will put up some pictures once I make the purchase.
  3. Thanks for the tips Alan, I am off to check out some yaks tomorrow so will look at the Hobies and see what I think. I will also look at the prowler and see what it is all about. This is all very confusing for a novice.
  4. Hi All, I have been reading through all the posts about yaks but I am a little unsure as to what I should purchase. I have narrowed down my search to these models but as I have not done much Kayaking before I am uncertain on which direction I should head in. These are the things I will be looking at doing General fishing in Botany, Syd Harbour and the Hacking occassionally head to Longreef(weather permitting and confidence) Now the three yaks I have found are the Ocean prowler 4.3 Hobbe PA12 Hobie Outback I am ahppy with the price on all three but want something that is practicle but has all the benifts for doing some deent fishing. I will look at installing a Fish finder and additional bits and bobs. ANy help would be much apreciated. JVA
  5. Hi Guys, I am after some assistance. A mate and I are keen on purchasing some yaks to take are sydney and do a spot of SP and trolling. My mate has been looking at the above and thinks he has found a great deal. The americans seem to think that they are pretty good but because we are new to the whole thing some much needed advice would be much appreciated. If any of you kind fisho's could help out that would be much appriciated. Jacques
  6. Well done mate, great looking fish. Woth spending the hours on the water for a result like that
  7. I have only done one trip to BB and it was probably the most productive fishing all year. As mentioned above try the Oil Wharf and the White drums. Burley is the key. Good luck
  8. Thanks Guys, I will give Craig a call and see what he can do for me. Maybe the tax man will be nice this year and I can up my budget. Much apreciated
  9. Hi Raiders, I need a little hep. I am looking at getting a new fish finder to help me locate the fish a little easier but am very confused about it all. I know you need to spend money to get a quality product but I am on a budget but want to get the best money can buy. I have a round $500 to spend but there is so much on the market I don't know where to turn. Please help?
  10. Very Nice mate, That will taste so good!!
  11. Hi All, It has been a while since I last posted something but I am looking for some help(what's new) I am looking for a good drummer spot either between Botany and the Shire or around the eastern Suburbs. Most of the time I make the drive out to Long reef as it always seems to produce but I was hoping there would be a spot a little closer to home. I have tried Bare Island but as most of you know it can get rather crowded. Please PM me if you do not wish to reveal your location. I am more than happy to tag along with someone if they have space or wish to teach a new boy some old tricks. Any help would be apreciated. Tight lines
  12. Well done, nice looking fish
  13. Great report, lets hope the long weekend brings some good fish
  14. Hey Sarge We normally use one 6/0 circle behind the head and get him down to the bottom. we also trim the top tail slightly. Hope this helps
  15. They sure were big Slimies, biggest ones we have seen. Not bonnies, these guys had tiny teeth. What ever took the massive livie was big and it was not stopping. With regards to catching slimies, pretty much the same as Yakkas but there where tones of slimies in plauge proportions so we got the small spinners out on light gear and had some fun.
  16. He was 14cm head to tail and 23cm across the Gurth
  17. Hi All, So headed out on Saturday morning early(4am) from Tunks. We headed straight for the spit to try for squid but had no luck tried some other spots but seemed illusive for us(novices at squid fishing. After a while we hit Balmoral and the Slimies were going nuts. After cleaning up on some nice 45cm slimies and playing them on light tackle we decided to heat to some kings spots. We burlies hard and had one decent run, my mate frozen in the process and we lost the fish All of a sudden a small boat arrive he dropped a small live yakka and he was on. After about 5 minutes of being pulled around he landed a decen 70cm king. We were heart broken. With two live slimies left we sent them down to the bottom hoping that we would be lucky enough to catch our first king. about 15mins past and something started stripping line of my reel. At first I thought it was a ray or eel so i decided to pull it in and see what was going on. To my surprise I pulled in the biggest blue swimmer crab I have ever seen. He was crazy trying to grab us at every chance he got, so i popped him in the esky for dinner. We stayed around for a few more hours but no luck. Yet again no luck with the kings. All in all had a good day and was just happy to be out on the water.
  18. Great report and advice for all that are new to Kingfish. Hopefully it will be a great summer for all.
  19. Nice work report mate. Seems you have figured out the art of Jewfishing
  20. Thanks Mate, I am looking forward to the next session. It will be great to finally land a king.
  21. Sounds like plan, See who catchs the first King I agree the fresh squid seems to be the way to go and knowing where to be. So mush to remeber, but all worth it for the grad prize. Good luck mate, I will be headingout again in two weeks if not sooner to try my luck.
  22. Thanks Guys for all the help once again!! Every time I learn something new. Hopefully I am getting closer. Once I land my first King I will be putting up the pictures for sure.
  23. So a mate an I decided to make an early start on Saturday morning to try our luck at catching a few kings or Jews. 4am start got to Tunks, loaded up the boat and hit bantery for 5am. Got the burley going and the yakka's were in in the live well ready to go. We pulled up and and hit a new spot not too far away. On arrival we dropped anchor in around 20m of water started to burley and placed two livies out to see what was around. As I was rigging my second rod I realized my handle was missing to my new reel. Absolute devastation, now had I dropped it overboard or lost it (rookie error) luckily I had a spare, as I was rigging me second leader I see a large silver flash in the water, I think to myself you are just imagining it. My mate screams its a king, they are here, all of a sudden my livie is right next to the boat and on the surface. Whack the king swallows the yakka and my reel begins to scream. I let the fish run the grab my road and try set the hook. I feel the tension and begin to wind. All of a sudden slack, I reel in my line and find a few scales left on the hook I can only think that the I just didn't set the hook. We put out a few more livies but no interest from anything y this stage the wind had picked up so we headed back. Even though we did not get the fish this is the more success we have had in two years. Thanks to all the help from everyone on this forum. I do have one question, what is the best way to rig the yakka, we were using 3/0 circle hooks set just behind the head of the fish. Is this the best way? Thanks again for all the help next time there will be photos.
  24. Great report, we were out pretty close to you and had some fun with the kings. Looks like you had loads of success.
  25. Check your traps regularly as they do not always hand around. But if you are using a box trap there could be other issues. I find the best traps are aften the bucket style- two rings that lie flat on the ground and when you retrieve the net the crabs get stuck. I have mainly seen Blue swimmer crabs in the Harbour. try these links http://www.fishraider.com.au/fishing-articles/blue-swimmer-crabs.php http://www.crabngear.com.au/lift-dillies
