  1. Swains is awesome mate. Definately get on a charter out there if you can. I dunno about the not going out wide comment earlier. It takes us 12+ hrs from gladstone harbour to swains. Usually a 7 day charter, 2008 we will be doing 10 days. I think we're booked around june/july too. Our usual charter is march/april. What boat are you looking at going on? Heres some video i put online recently from swains> We organise as a group for tackle. & buy bulk hooks 6/0 - 10/0, a few years we made a few hundred 1/4 - 1/2 lb sinkers but recently we have been buying these too. Take your own rods & reels, I use 24kg overhead gear for just about all my fishing up there, from trolling to bottom bashing. alot of the other guys use alveys & spinners too. Id suggest 15lb line as an absoute minimum. Oh yeah we order our grog in gladstone, they bottlo brings it down to the wharf on a pallet. If you go you wont regret it. edit: A moderator kindly removed a link to a different fishing forum I posted where there has been previous discussion as to fishing swains. If you lookup sportsfish forums & search for swains you will find the thread.
  2. Looks like a deliberate join rather than a macine malfunction. It appears to be tied together, then bound up with some other fine twine or something. Maybe I should send it back to the distributor & complain? or just back to BigW for an exchange? I wouldnt be suprised if it ends up back on the shelf there tho. I almost got shafted with the 1st pack i picked up, 30lb Crystal. If i didnt have a closer look I wouldnt have realised someone had switched the fireline for a spool of mono in the fireline box. A staff member was working in the isle so I gave it to her & suggested she do something with it. Probably back on the shelf after i left...
  3. Bought a spool of 30lb fireline to spool a reel for the weekend, lucky i didnt leave it to the last minute as I usually would. I got about 1/2way through spooling the reel & found its been joined mid spool. It appeared to be machine wound so I can only assume this has been done at the factory. Im not real happy about having to go back again tomorrow after work to replace it. Thought Id share it with you lot. Pic >
  4. Hey Dan, Yes Freetime are the distributor that supplied the parts & the advice. Then i read this http://www.reelvalue.co.uk/okuma/okuma_titus_reels.html So im a bit confused.
  5. Im replacing the drag washer & drag plate in my okuma titus T30 overhead. From what ive read on from various sources on the net, the fibre drag washer should have a teflon grease applied to it. So I rang a tackle shop to find out what they stock & recommend. They suggested an Inox PTFE grease. Then I rang the Okuma distributor who had kindly sent me the replacement bits & the bloke there said NO grease, run it dry. I am not confident with that advice, can someone offer a second opinion? I'll be heading off on saturday for a 7 day swains trip & would suck to have the reel fail out at sea. Cheers.
  6. Hahaha you reckon? So when we getting together for a fish.
