  1. Nice work on the salmon mate, not sure about your casting issues though. Have you tried re spooling your reel? Is the braid spooled firmly on? Because if it was spooled loosely i can see how that would cause some casting troubles. Also maybe tie some leader to the end of your braid to avoid loosing lures etc due to line breakages (gives it a bit of stretch), use a double uni to tie the leader on.
  2. good effort mate! Gotta be stoked with that!
  3. Rough day at the office! Bad luck mate. Were you using similar gear to your mates,or were they fishing lighter?
  4. looks like a good day mate, what area were you fishing?
  5. Hey Raiders, Launched the tinny at Tunks this morning and headed round to balmoral to get some livies (yakkas). Drifted a few different spots with a couple of livies down and eventually hooked a nice sambo! Good Fun! Didnt measure him just took a quick snap and tossed him back in the drink. Half hour or so later my mate was winding up his livie thinking he had some weed or something and believe it or not 3 squid we trying to grab the yakka. Quickly grabbed the squid jig and got the 3 of them in a matter of minutes At the end of the session we had 6 decent squid from middle harbour 2 green eye and 4 arrows. Tried one of the squid for a kingy amongst the moorings to no avail, all in all a great day weatherwise and not a bad days fishing too! Cheers Sam
  6. Gday Raiders, Just thought id report of our day out on Sydney Harbour today. Mates picked me up from Balmoral after getting a fair share of live yakkas, headed round to a few of the markers throughout the harbour to drop the livies and do some plastics work and float some baits. Drifted across a couple of wrecks using the same techniques and came up with absolutely nothing! I don't know what we were doing wrong! We could even spot a few fish on the sounder Got checked twice by the water police and there weren't even that many people out on the water so maybe its because its coming into the first weekend of spring? Anyways heading out again tomorrow to fish middle harbour on the tinny so hopefully we might be able to catch a few salmon or something!! Cheers Sam
  7. thanks guys appreciate the replies!!
  8. Gday Raiders, Going out on a mates boat tomorrow reasonably early to fish the harbour. We were hoping to get into some salmon or trevally. Is there much point downrigging for salmon around the moorings and whatnot or should we head out to north head and drop some livies? Anyone have any tips that might help us get onto some good fighter?! (The boat has a sounder too so that might help us out) cheers Sam
  9. Great report Chewie, interesting array of fish too! always good to get a feed!
  10. too easy Chewie! appreciate the reply mate. Yeah we aren't really expecting many kings, more just practice for the summer haha! thanks again
  11. Gday Raiders, Thinking of launching from Rose Bay tomorrow and having a fish around some of the wrecks in the harbour there for a possible king or two. We have a little tinny and have only fished middle harbour, in terms of boat traffic etc should we wait for a weekday to try out a new spot such as this part of the harbour? Cheers Sam
  12. Balmoral was firing for me on tuesday arvo around 3pm -5pm. Heaps of yakkas around. Caught a couple of legal trevally and got busted off by one decent one. Plus hooked a good size salmon too fought him for about a minute and got busted off as I only had a tiny hook for catching yakkas!
  13. Hey mate, what's the best way to go about finding these wrecks without a sounder? or would a sounder be the only way? Cheers Sam

    PFD's

Gday Raiders, After a bit of advice in regards to PFDs. We are in need of a few new ones seeing as though the ones we have a probably nearing the end of their reliability. Was looking around on a number of different sites and I see these ones for about 20bucks each.PFD Type 1, for 60kg and over, chest size 102-157cm, Aust standard AS1512 Certified Then on another site saw these ones for something like 70bucks each. Skimaster Mk2 PFD Blue - Level 50S, Adult L (also Aus standard) Can we go with the cheaper ones, or in this case will I get what I pay for so to speak? Cheers Sam
  15. Just quickly, in regards to eating Harbour fish, I know there are warnings against eating fish west of the harbour bridge and only 150g east of the bridge. What does everyone on Fishraider do? Abide by these recommendations or eat whatever you catch? PS- we threw this Kingy back obviously.
  16. G'Day Raiders, Haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I might quickly share Hiles and my quick trip to Greenwich today. Fished around the sailing club around 8:30ish to no avail, not even a nibble anywhere. Moved around to another wharf we found on google maps, fished it for half an hour before Hiles hooked onto something big and fast with a tiny size 12 hook (trying for yakkas), unfortunately the fish busted off under the wharf leaving us both devastated but still hopeful. So I followed his lead and got a slightly bigger hook with a bit of filleted pilly on and within a couple of minutes hooked onto what was sure to be the same fish. After numerous close calls with the wharf I pulled in a nice 63cm kingfish on 6lb fireline and 10lb fluoro leader. I was absolutely stoked as we only just started properly targeting them at the end of the season. After the king no action whatsoever, didn't bother me though Cheers Sam
  17. nice haul, are fish from parra river ok to eat?
  18. Gday Guys, Thought i might let you know that Hiles and myself can no longer make the social. Both of us have commitments we cannot get out of! Devastated, but looking forward to the next social, have fun!!
  19. launch your boat and then park on the street just past the bus stop. It will save you some coin!!
  20. Thanks Hodgey, drag grease it is. Just got some from the tackle store.
  21. Hey Raiders, My stradic got a small taste of salt water on the weekend (barely covered the spool), however i rang the shimano service centre for some advice. The guy didn't seem too fussed about it and said to take the drag washers out, let them dry, regrease and put them back in. Do i need special drag washer grease or is your average fishing reel grease ok? Cheers Sam
  22. Thanks Trung! Appreciate the advice
  23. Hey Raiders, Hiles and Me are heading out tomorrow in search of our first kingy around the spit on the tinny. We will probably try and catch our own squid but for backup is it worth buying some squid from a servo or is it just rubbish to use that stuff? Maybe someone knows a good bait shop near Tunks Park. Cheers Sam
  24. Sounds tops! Ill be there for the three days!! Cheers Sam
