  1. now that would have been special :biggrin2:

how big was the jewie you saw if i read your post correctly

    frankp

I meant if i hadnt seen the trevally myself.

Im yet to see a jewie pulled out of the lakes but i have spoken to a few people who say they have caught them there, one bloke got one this time last year at the steps up near the wier at liverpool said it weighed 4.5kg.

  2. he caught it in chipping norton lakes. :1yikes:

    now that amazes me

    frankp

You and me both, we called it for a decent flathead at first then it started to pull some line [bream gear] and when it came up to the boat we looked like this :1yikes: :1yikes:

I would think they are as mythical as the jewies people keep telling me they catch in there if i hadnt seen it myself.

  3. I havent seen one in the Georges for fair while, any sharks that is but i havent really been on the lookout for them either.

Bull sharks were always pretty commonly talked about when i was younger and fished the banks of the Georges with my grand parents. When i was about 10 or 12 i used to see people fishing with baloons along the stretch between east hills railway bridge and picnic point of a late afternoon and well into the evening.

An old fella i was talking to out there one day told us that the Georges had recorded the most shark attacks out of all the Sydney estuaries.

  4. the best fish i have caught was a huge fat black fish at chipping norton about 13 years ago using green weed from a local creek recently in the same spot it seems swamped with bream there $*@^#& everywhere gets annoying esp when ur aim is for a different type of fish the bream snap ya bait up within minutes :ranting2:

:074::074::074::074::074: its amazing head down there on a weekend you'll see alot of people taking the fish home

Where do you fish for black fish at Chipping Norton? iVe never seen anyone fishing there for them, mainly people with floats and bread catching mullet

  5. Well i've been using this stuff since the post at the top and i am very impressed, have not had one single line tangle, no birds nests and ill certainly continue to use it.

It took a while to figure out which knot to use for best strength connecting it to my leader and the 5 turn surgeons has come out on top.

  6. I would like to get a hold of some 2lb fluorocarbon to use as leader material, i have had a look around at my local tackle stores and a few of the big ones but no one seems to have anything under 4lb???

Could someone tell me what brands make a 2lb fluoro and how readily available it is?

    Thanks :1fishing1:

  7. Its every industry unfortunately just some more so than others and these seem to be all the ones i am interested in and need to purchase things for

I know the parts exist as i was speaking to someone on the weekend who had purchased them but the place he got them from doesnt have a clue any more. Maybe the person who got them doesnt work there any more.

  8. Hey all,

Does anyone know of places that supply performance outboard parts, like aftermarket or factory racing heads, gaskets, cranks etc etc.

After parts for my tohatsu 2 smoker and if i can buy off the shelf id rather do that than machine and modify everything myself.

I have rang tohatsu and a few of their dealers but its hard to find someone that can even construct a sentence let alone give you some information. :mad3:

    Cheers,

    Nathan

  9. sounds like fun

what bloody hooks were u using mate... i'd be cut!

I was using the Berkley jigheads and the 2 that straightened were from different packs so i dont think it was just a bad batch :mad3:

Heres one pic i got the rest are on my brothers camera, waiting for email to come thru.

  10. Left Cooks River ramp at 545am and headed straight out to the heads of botany bay to see some birds working their way in. Killed the motor and threw out the plastics and straight away on to a good fish assumed it was a salmon until it went for a good run and i thought damn this is a big salmon if it is one.

After about 10 mins i finally got it back to the surface for the 3rd time and netted my first kingy on plastics just under legal size but hey on 6lb braid it went hard :1prop:

Next one i hooked i passed the rod to my mate to give him a go while i rigged up my other rod, we then had a triple hook up and all the boys got snapped off :074:

I chucked out my 10lb outfit and hooked into another one only to lose it at the boat after it straightened the bloody hook out :ranting2::ranting2::ranting2:

Landed one more on the 10lb outfit that was just on legal size but since i dont eat fish i tossed it back in, next go and straightened the hook out again.

The rest of the time i spent rigging my mates lines cause they are too retarded to tie a knot :1yikes:

I'll put the pics up when i get home :biggrin2:

  11. Glad you made the trip over last night.

Give me some feedback on the backpack when you use it

    cheers

I used the back pack on the weekend, its a little bit too bulky but once it softens up that will be fixed. It has plenty of room, so much that if u filled it up you wouldnt be able to lift it!!

A dedicated soft plastics zip up area is about the only thing its missing, but you can easily enough chuck them in the top zip area

    :biggrin2::thumbup:

  12. thanks netic

I thought it was worth a try since I can't really afford a downrigger ATM.

You may need to employ some creative engineering with some household items, an old clothesline handle, a cut up street post and some bolts from the side gate hey presto
