Thanks for your advice Whenever I go to a beach, I try to locate gutter holes/rip but it is extremely difficult to identify them in rough swell conditions. Any tips?? Cheers James

Hi Experts, Hope you had a good weekend I've recently changed from rock fishing to surf fishing and been hitting the beach whenever I can. Just very curious, what will be the most 'ideal' weather conditions for surf fishing?? It's been interesting because some days I don't even get a single bite but some days it just goes crazy. Water Temp? Tide? Swell? Wind? Barometric Pressure? Moon Phases? Rain? Suuny Day vs. Cloudy Day? Time of the Day? Any help would be much appreciated Cheers James

Hi Everyone, Went fishing on Sunday morning 6 - 10 am. Place was packed with people but no one landed any fish. Not even a single bite. I wonder why? I could see plenty of bait fish popping on the surface, birds diving in, plus tide/swell/wind condition were quite good. Overfished? Perhaps? Regards, James

My budget around $500. I currently have Heartland 12" rod with saltist 4500H but don't want to use it on the beach (dropped one reel previously and costed alot!!) Cheers James

I have considerable drag on my reel and it still managed to pull line off it. (Saltist 4500) I use lure most of times

Hi experts, I was fishing from the rocks yesterday and hooked up something quite heavy and strong out of no where. It felt like a kingfish as it dived down straight away and cut my braid line against the reef. How do I fight kingfish in the beginning? This is my 3rd time loosing a good hook up in the same way. I couldn't even pull it or fight it because it was pulling down so hard. Any advice would be much appreciated. I am using 50lb braid + 40lb leader Cheers Jamesy

Hi Experts, I have couple of 60g Metal Jigs and was wondering If I could use these jigs a bit differently. I mainly use these from the shore by attaching hanging single hook on top of the split ring. I let it sink all the way to the bottom before I start jigging. There are two rings on this jig, one at the top and one at the bottom. What is the purpose of the bottom ring? Can I attach a tri hook and spin it? What would be the most ideal lure for large bonitos, samson fish?! I do have a large green Rapala X-rap lure but not sure whether it will work Plz Help Cheers Jigging Newb

I was using 50 lb braid + 40 lb leader and the kingfish still managed to give me a good smack on the ground (My knee was bleeding) and took my line out for a considerable amount of time. I thought my biceps were gonna burst. Most definitely need thicker than 14lb braid mate.

How about using Halco's metal lure?

I use lures but seriously there should be some kind of penalty for leaving garbage behind.. I bet half of them don't even have fishing licences either.

Hey Everyone, I was driving down south yesterday and on the way I visited the Blow hole around 3 ~ 4 pm. There were about 30 people fishing from the rocks. Crazy! Not even 1m apart from one person to another. Interesting thing is, I was there for about an hr and didn't see anyone catching anything. I've never been to Bass Pt but is it similar condition (i.e. 20 ~ 30 people) to rocks near the Blow hole? Cheers

I agree and feel your pain. I was fishing off the rocks few weeks ago, a boat with 6 ~ 7 fisherman came right infront of me and gave me the finger. I couldn't cast because they were just in my range.... They were shouting throwing going crazy. I had to pack up and leave.

Only reason why I used such a heavy gear was because there are heaps of decent kings swimming around (you can actually see them lol). Funny thing is, they followed my lure all the way to the edge and just stare at it no matter how hard I jig. It seems as though they were curious. I think I will bring an additional rod next time with lighter settings (perhaps 20lb braid + 16lb mono) and use smaller lures Thank you for your replies Awesome!
