  1. Yeah I thought it was a bit of a stupid question! Just thought we could maybe set the downrigger a bit higher in the water column and it might make a difference. Also got a 10-15kg mackerel to the boat and it ran under the boat and got busted off.
  2. Got this wahoo at south west rocks today. Got a couple of yellowfin and lost a 10-15kg Spanish at the boat. Does anyone have any ideas on how to avoid the sharks? We were downrighing small mac tuna down around 20 metres but kept getting big sharks. Should we be keeping them on the surface?
  3. Yeah spoke to a mate up there and he said it was filthy but should clear up a bit by the end of the week. Have you ever use live herring as mackerel bait? I was thinking we would fill the tank with those if slimies are hard to find. I'm up there Tuesday for a week. Good luck tomorrow mate
  4. Thanks Dirvin21. Probably going to put the boat in near the gaol when the wind and swell gets around in the south on Thursday.
  5. Guys we're heading for our annual week long fishing trip at SWR next week and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how we would fish it given the amount of rain up there? We usually live bait for Spanish mackerel and cast stick baits and poppers etc for kings, tuna mackerel etc. just not sure how all this fresh will effect that kind of fishing. I'm hoping there is a solid current line of dirty and clean water so we could fish the edge of it? If anyone has been up there in similar conditions and has any ideas that would be great.
  6. We are going up Monday to Monday now. Looks like its calming down by Tuesday. Hopefully the dirty water F*%$s off!!
  7. What do you guys think about the weather forecasts? Easterly swell with NE winds. Not good!!
  8. I'm up there on the 17th until the 25th and will be fishing everyday. Let's pray the weather holds up!! Also what would it be like launching a 6.5 metre centre cab at the gaol? I've always gone out over the bar but wouldn't mind a plan b.
  9. Had the same thing happen with my surface lure. I could see flatties around 40cm coming up to it and shying away. Tried everything but couldn't get a hook up
  10. Pulled the pin and we are going to go next week. The swell will be 2 metres coming straight at the bar with a nor Easter. No thanks! Looks like would have been great over the last few days. I will hopefully be posting something next week.
  11. We have a trip organised for this week coming, however the swell is north easterly 2-3m and winds 10-20 knots north easterly. It would make the bar almost impossible to cross right? Has anyone had any experience up there in similar conditions? If it was in the south it wouldn't be a problem.
  12. Thanks for the info Ahab. We are going to be in a 6.2m centre cab. We have crossed that bar in a variety of conditions and haven't had any issues. I will let you know how we go. Fingers crossed for the weather!
  13. Thanks for the report mate. I'm heading up on Tuesday for a week. How's the weather? It looks pretty rough at the moment?
  14. Does anyone know if you can get a live feed to an iPad from a GoPro or something similar? I've been looking at the troll pro housing for the GoPro but can't find anything about a live feed to a phone or iPad. Thoughts?
  15. Just wondering if anyone has been to SWR recently or have heard any reports up there? We are going in 3 weeks for about a week and hoping to get into the mackerel and kings. Also has anyone fished Scotts head canyon before?
  16. Is it worth fishing in chocolate milk or should we put the rods away for a few weeks? I've heard the large amount of fresh can reduce the salinity and shut the fish down.
  17. Hi mate, I was up there last feb and I'm going again this feb. The bar wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be. We were in a 6m centre cab and it was fine even in a ver low run out tide. We went to grassy and burlyed up and got them on pilchards and yakkas (couldn't find any slimies at the time). You might get some on lures but from what I've heard it's pretty tough. Good luck!
  18. Went out to long reef yesterday and got one rat king from one cuttlefish. They didn't want to take yakkas and I was very hard to get any squid or slimies. Did anyone else have trouble getting bait yesterday? The water temp was only 18.5 degrees. And when we went out the week before it was 20-21 with kings everywhere.
  19. This is from Al McGlashan. "Okay so everyone has been asking about the super trawler meeting in parliament yesterday. Attached is the press release from the Minister. In a nutshell we were told the Geelong Star is hear to stay, which wasnt what I was expecting. So our next step is to now minimise impact on recreational fishing grounds. Particularly the NSW south coast and East Coast Tassi where the boat is planning to fish. Sadly this is only the beginning with SBT issues and marine park lockouts on the horizon too! Now before anyone starts mouthing off on FB please remember that is doesnt actually achieve anything and if you want change you need to contact the minister!" http://assistant.agricultureminister.gov.au/Pages/Media-Releases/progress-on-geelong-star-negotiations.aspx
  20. I saw you guys today and saw you get the fish. Great boat. We were in a little white stacer. We were down rigging squid and slimies and got around 8 - 10. Most around 70cm.
  21. Has anyone been getting squid in the harbour after this rain? I'm thinking of going out tomorrow despite the 15-20 knot southerly. Also went out in middle harbour last week for nothing, we didn't even find bait on the sounder.
  22. Hi raiders, I'm heading up to South west rocks now for 3 days fishing. Just wondering where to get slimies? I've heard the marker boeys just outside the bar are ok but any other suggestions would be great.
  23. Hey mate. It's called fish track. It's about $80 a year.
