Hi guys,
I've just signed up to a website that gives me sea temperature, currents, topography, altimetry and chlorophyll levels. Just wondering if anyone uses any of these indicators to better their fishing? Or if they can give me a better understanding of how they affect fishing?
From what I have read, chlorophyll is a good indicator of phytoplankton and phytoplankton are eaten by slightly larger herbivores called zooplankton, and zooplankton are eaten by krill and some small fish which in turn attract big fish.
However high concentrations of chlorophyll suggest dirty water, and from my experience it seems that the fishing is generally poor when the water is murky. Seems to somewhat contradict itself if these assumptions are correct.
Altimetry shows sea surface height, or upwellings and downwellings of cool and warm water respectively. Apparently fishing is best between the transition of the two because the upwelling is bringing the nutrient rich water to the surface. Plankton feed on the nutrients which and bait fish feed on plankton etc..
Let me know your thoughts.
