Salmon is an interesting bycatch if you're chasing drummer? i should have explained a school of surface fish turned up while fishing for drummer so i rigged up a lure same size as the bait fish and every cast got a hit,all pacific salmon

well i finally decided to bring home a salmon(bled straightaway) after failing to locate a decent drummer. i didn't tell the mrs what fish we were eating and thankfully she didn't ask.anyway i was nervous as hell about eating salmon so i let the mrs eat 1st while i slyly watched from a distance.i did a simple fillet with parsley,butter,salt and pepper and a few fish cakes aswell to mask an apparent horrible taste. anyway to cut to the chase the salmon's taste and texture was fantastic and i'm not that into seafood.can't wait to have more! hopefully the frame and head is currently tempting a nice mud crab into me trap out the back of my place

when i had to live in sydney i used to park me boat on broome st maroubra(good chance u live on that street!). south side of maroubra is great for drummer and blackfish i thought.cunjevoi on rocks near beach

there are PLENTY of fish on the sand flats at walmer ave at present.most success i've had have been early or late but have also been doing quite well in the middle of day.there are patches of weed but not too much,heaps of clear spots but the flatties do love hanging around the edges of the weeds.in a southerly u can still fish the frederick st end of walmer,nice and clear.walmer and lorelyn can really fire up.if ur there look out for a tall fella with his little dog,thats me

hi all, would love a bit info from those in the know. been having some good success on mini flatties but struggling to find some legals until... anyway i love wandering the shallows of st georges basin flicking my plastic and have been averaging about 5 flatties an hour of late but they are all so small which is a bit unusual for the basin,great fun nonetheless.have been doing best on the 80mm bloodworm wriggler.normally couple of whiting and flounder take a liking to the plastic aswell. anyway coming back to the main point i'm baffled as what could have taken my plastic at luuch time today!this time fishing in about 1.5m of water i got nailed by something that peeled about 20m of line off my reel in 10secs!i then retrieved a bit of line over the next 2 mins but then the fish just sat there,couldn't budge him! this happened at same spot back in april too,that time the creature straightened me hook! anyway apart from the mini ones and the 2 beasts i've been doing ok and normally bring something home eventually doing the land based plastic thing.over the last month i've had 2 flatties exceding 60cms but not over 70cms.i livbe at sanctuary point and fish either end of walmer ave(u gotta now the ledge though!). ANY ideas was these beasts could be?? cheers

i live at st georges basin.great spot near me is stony creek in a big swell,200m south of there(as far as u can walk before its impossible)is one hell of a good pig spot.plenty of cunji to be had at low tide.never seen anyone else fish it before,thats why i love the south coast

bit of a walk from carpark and back with livies but spoon bay always has a good supply.

there is 100% no weed on south side of creek all the way to bowan island,seems to have only affected the eastern facing callala beach

not a great deal of interest for many but was amazed by the huge amounts of tailor at sussex inlet.i was on my way to berrara beach for a fish but thought i'd stop in at sussex and see whats happening.as soon as i arrived i could here the water alive with suface fish feeding.i had pilchards with me but noticed no one was having success on this bait.i shon my light in the water and noticed copious amounts of tiny baitsish(whitebait?) which the tailor were chasing.so i put my only glow in the dark lure and struck up straight away on the light gear i brought,good fun but the next one bit through my 6lb line(losing old mate glow-in-dark).then used small plastics and scored plenty more.put the smallest one on live on my beach rig.nothing for 20mins then big hit but whatever it was took the front 3/4 of the tailor in a clean cut just missing my 9/0 hook,prob a shark but i'm only guessing! anyway good fun watching a group of about 10tailor under the light of the jetty terrorising the bait fish constantly,reminded me of being up in the tropics watching the giant pelagics on herring

decided to give the plastics a miss and throw a bait out for a change.had about a dozen live(just) prawns from the night before and decided to use cockles aswell which are abundent in the basin. prior to going for a quick fish across the road i thought best to feed the hound(princess hound to the mrs)with some chicken livers i got on special.before putting them away i decided i'd take 2 with me in case the usual baits don't work. well suprise suprise,chicken liver did the trick!the live prawns yielded nothing,cockles just 2 small leatherjackets yet the livers got me 2 30-33cms bream. i've never used any form of poultry for bait before but why were they not interested in live prawns at least?live prawns has mostly been my best bait from the rocks and estuary but today/night no good. anyway tomorrow night i'll be giving myself at least 2hours with chick livers instead of just 45 mins and will use just a split shot as the bream seem to come in in real shallow as night falls. st georges basin seems to be fishing very well recently with your usual bread and butter fish on the bite though never got a decent sized whiting in there yet.glad i never lived here 10years ago when the trawlers cleaned out the fish.nowadays is far better as the long term locals inform me.
