How did you snap the two rods?
Sorry for late reply
I lift up bonnie and it snapped. Another time was hooked on king and went under wharf. Afraid of losing the fish and tighten my drag then put bit of tension on rod and it snapped haha. Maybe it was the angle that rod bends.
My local tackle shop was very kind enough to give me replacement From there, I have been netting most of the catch now and have been very happy with my catana.

hi mate, I have 2 * 2-4kg rod and 1 snapper rod. They're all 7 ft spin rod. I love 'em and would strongly recommend as the price is reasonable and cheap.
I have snapped twice for 2-4kg rod on bonito and king. I would recommend you to use a net if you hook on decent fish and do not try to lift. You won't get tired if you spin whole day.
-
WOW, that is massive hairtail lol. Well done mate haha.
-
Nice king mate
Just noob quick question with 2-4kg rod if you hook up king. Would the rod snap if you pull up 65-80cm king off the boat? Given with small reels, you will just have 200m max line? I have caught 60cm+ bonnies off wharf on 6lb line with 2-4kg rod and no problem fighting them as they just run left and right

Stan bro, I went kiama 2 or 3 weeks ago. Didn't catch anything lol. No livies near rocks so went back to harbour to get livies then carry all the way to blowhole HAHA.
Just caught 2 salmons and that's all We stayed from Sunrise to sunset lol and it was like 16 degrees haha.

And if it's your day, you will get king at clifton too
Kingfish(morning) - Live Yellow tail or live squids (can be strips)
Bream, trevally, snappers (small one but) - Pillies and prawns
Jewfish(mostly night time) - Live Yellow tail or live squids (can be strips)
Squids - Squids jig at sunset to night
Whiting - I don't normally catch there but you need live worms or squids with long shank hook (I think I use small hooks like size 2)
paternoster rig or running sinker with small hooks will do
Hope this help mate. Whatever I missed will be added by other fisho

haha, nice. I caught leatherjacket on squid jig as well. It was big leatherjacket as well and hooked on the side lol. Too bad, I didn't have photo to show ya'll.

Oh well, I went there on Sat and Sun. Sat, mate caught one med tailor and no bites after. One guy caught a salmon. Sunday, didn't catch anything and not even a bite for 4 hours.
Maybe just for me, I won't go there again haha.
And very dirty there too. My mate even picked up all the rubbish there at where we fished and put them in one big plastic bag.
If you want to go there, go abit early as the place will get packed once the sun comes out.

Awesome, thanks mate. How about morning? You have any idea about what time will the gate open?
-
OMG NICE !!!!!! can't wait to watch video mate.
-
Nice mate.
You mind pointing the direction? I have heard quite a number of port kembla but i don't really know how to access. Is it near factory?
-
Awesome report Peter !!! and congrat on your big kingies.
Making me jealous for boat fishos haha. I won't give up and will be chasing for 90-100cm+ kingies from LB hehe.
-
I heard they were fishing in 4M swells?....
I don't know in details I just read it from news.
-
I fished a few times in clifton there's nothing there.....
i see alot of people going for yellow tails that's about it.
A a nice bream there once 37cm
Last time I went was in March, caught salmons and bonitos there. You can get squids at night time. Again, it's on and off
-
You have car? If so, you can try Pier 2 as well. Other side of Luna park across the bridge. Lot of ppl fish there almost every morning. You can get yellow tail to Kingies. Clifton garden is not bad if you can beat the crowd
-
For some reasons, I didn't like there much. I think it's too dangerous. Went there once and didn't feel like fishing after watching the waves. If you really want to fish there, you will need those shoe. RIP to the man.
It was on news too. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/05/07/3210511.htm

Ill be down at Balmoral tonight doing a Solo Sess if anyone wants to join me?
Mate, if no ones call me out for drinks tonight, you might see me there. I'm squid addict haha. Never tried there so prob get some squid and hunt for jewfish tonight haha.
-
haha Stan, just saw your great report.
This was awesome setup for boat. To me, I don't think there is any wrong with underwater cam. I have even seen some fishing boats with under water lights to attract fish&squids with underwater cam setup too
-
Nice drawing on squid stan haha. I will try that next time.
-
Very exiting report jez. I love reading it. Of course nice catch on jewie
-
Arrh no I caught the Squid landbased. Aplogies for the confusion.
Although, the large Squid on its own was caught in deeper water after raising a live Yakka from off the bottom once it was seen to be getting some attention. Brought him to the surface and yanked the Yakka from the life wrenching beak of the Squid and dropped a couple of jigs in front of his nose on a peternoster rig before he could decend back into the dark realm of Squid land. It's a good technique. Works a treat.
Thanks for tips mate, I'll try that next time too
-
Nice jewie and squids Out of curiosity, how did you manage to drop that squid jig to bottom? It looks like 1.5 or 1.8 and should be very light? With strong current, I think it is hard to let it sink?
-
Thanks for all the comments guys, any of you blokes heading out to the harbour next weekend? provided i get my gps fixed i will be heading offshore.
If not i might just keep it in the harbour, theres still plenty of action. I heard hawkesbury is firing up so might try there instead.
Happy easter everyone! last day of work WOOOHHOOOOOO
looks like you can't take me out for tailor at maroubra anymore Stan. haha.
-
Nice Stan. Did you manage to take some under water video? If yes, can you please upload
Squidding in Sydney

Posted
Hey mate,
I don't know which part of Sydney are you located. I live in City so below are the spots that I usually go.
They're not 100% productive but good day and bad day. Depends on the day, I will get at least 4 most of the time. Most of them small to med tho lol.
- Clifton Garden
- Balmoral wharf
- Rose bay wharf
- Sydney harbour bridge
- Watsons bay Wharf
- Capt Cook Bridge
- Lilli Pilli
- Wallys wharf
I believe there are more spots and others should be able to tell you more spots. Try to look for some spots with lights as squids prefer to hang around there.
