  1. My wife went through her job being made redundant a few years ago. She didn't have a choice but to leave where she was working for over 20 years. The money was good but as you'll mostly find with a lump sum of money, it ran out with some house renovations etc. I remember how upset she was at the time but looking at it now, she agrees it was the best thing to ever happen to her. Overall, if you take the money, it's a change and they say a change is as good as a holiday! The only word of caution I have for you is speak to an accountant as I think, although not exactly sure, that there are different tax rules for volutany redundancy v's forced redundancy. I thought forced redundancy was taxed less, but again, not sure and you should really find out as it can make a big difference to the $$$$ that end up in your bank account at the end of the day. Hope this helps.
  2. Hi. I have a couple of the original Smaki Zecton rods, the first series, in 2 different line classes and love them. Can't be faulted. They are my "go to" rods in terms of feel and performance. A mate I fish with has a gloomis in the same line class and size and although more expensive than my Samaki, the feel of the Samaki is much much better. Hope this helps.
  3. Hi Benzeenees, I have an accusharp sharpener and love it. It takes a few seconds to get a great edge on a filleting knife! I've had mates comment on how sharp the knives I have on the boat always are and all it takes is seconds. The only thing I recommend is to start with a good quality knife. If the blade is good, you'll get end up with a very sharp knife otherwise if the blade is crap, it will only be average is sharpness. When my current accusharp wears out, I'm buying another! Hope this helps.....
  4. Hi mate. If you decide to make a couple and sell them off, count me in!!!! It's brilliant. Well done.

    Lowrance HDS 5

Hi Ian, I have a HDS-5 and I find the screen being a little too small to have it split. Does get annoying but you learn to live with it. My recommendation would be to hold off until you can afford to buy the 7. Enough of a difference in size to make the extra dollars worth it in my opinion... Cheers.
  6. Don't be concerned about the size of the yellowtail. Big baits are a good thing in the right environment! Try the butterfly fillet. Works a treat on all sorts of species. Best of luck.
  7. Great flattie regardless of the type! Very impressive.....

Nice work and what a great feed. Well done!!
  9. Hi guys. My favourite Trev recipe is to fillet and crumb the fish and cook them with a small amount of butter on the bbq hot plate. I add lemon as they cook and they are delicious! My kids love them too..... Having a beer with them is great.
  10. Great fish there. Well done!
  11. That's a legendary effort! Very impressive.....
  12. Hi guys, Looking for some information on a topic that I'm sure has been covered before but I just couldn't locate the thread. I have a Lowrance HDS-5 and was thinking about buying a Navionics Gold card for it. What I'm struggling to find is what information is on the card? Does it give you co-ordinates and directions to say Long Reef or Browns or 12 mile etc or does it give just a clearer picture of the coast line and depths? If someone could let me know, that'd be great. Thank you.
  13. Excellent work boys! Well done......
  14. Excellent video boys. Well done!!
  15. Hi guys. I caught a cuttle in the Harbour 2 seasons back and it decided to ink the carpet in the boat! Still has stains in it 2 seasons on.....lol. +1 for the kiwifruit/milk tenderising process. Works a treat. Cuttlefish is nice on the plate!
  16. Hi. Buy some marine fiberglass polish and it should polish off. While you're at it, you should polish the whole boat because it makes cleaning stains easier as most will just wash off. Hope this helps!
  17. Hi fellas. A mate of mine has just bought himself a new Lowrance HDS 5 and it came with a AIRMAR P66 transducer. It's a 50/200w transducer and wondering whether anyone has any experience with these transducers and how they perform compared to the standard Lowrance 50/200w transducer. He's a little worried about it and trying to work out whether it's worthwhile taking it back and getting the Lowrance transducer or keeping the AIRMAR. Any thoughts?

    yanmar

Howdy. Yanmars are ultra reliable and used in a large number of boats. They are very common with few issues. They do, however need to be serviced regularly and they are expensive if something goes wrong, but then again so is an outboard. Hope this helps. Cheers.
  19. Mate, nice fish! Something that will stay in the young blokes mind for a long time and hopefully he'll stay a fisho for life! Next generation is what it's all about and having the young bloke with you on a fish like that is priceless! Well done........
  20. Thanks fellas! Looking forward to getting home from work tonight and mucking around with it! Cheers and thanks again.
  21. Hi Fellow Raiders. Hoping someone can please set me straight with a new Lowrance HDS-5 sounder with built in chartplotter/GPS I bought for my old glass boat. I fitted the sounder today as well as the transducer etc and then went on to wire it. I've connected the positive and negative, no problem there! There is also a yellow accessory wake up wire which I have no idea what to do with and whether I need to connect it to anything? If someone has done this job before, can you please assist and let me know if I need to connect that yellow wire. I'm not running any other electronics if helps at all?? I haven't powered up the sounder as I want to make sure all of the wiring is complete before I do turn it on and have a muck around with it. Thanks in advance guys and looking forward to hearing back.
  22. Hi mate. My understanding here is that if you are fishing with braid and land a prized fish, they will take some of the line away, test it to ensure it breaks appropriately and then if it passes all the tests, award you the fish. If you use mono, there is none of the to-ing and fro-ing. You get awarded immediately. Although I'm a braid fisherman, sometimes it makes it hardly worth it...... Cheers and all the best.
  23. Hi mate. Had a similar thing happen to us a few years ago but they took the car and the trailer! Very inconvenient (most polite way I can say what I really think!!!!). Anyway, glad to hear you had some help which often makes the whole thing a little easier to swallow! Hope the new trailer is great!!
