  1. well done mate! you really do have that spot figured out. Has that prized flattie been caught yet? if not, I am pretty sure you'll get it pretty soon! might catch you down there on the next new moon.
  2. Well done again Jeff! Sometimes it's a little harder to get those buggers. Too bad you didn't give the kings a go. Next time dude.
  3. hey Bluefin, you don't know how glad I am to hear that I am not the only one that is suffering from jacket-ni-tis!! hehehe I was starting to think that someone had attached a jacket magnet to the bottom of me boat!!
  4. DAN DAN DAN!! nice work buddy! i am going to have to pay the old bream spots a visit soon.
  5. yeah the squid have definitely been a lot easier to get lately. yes those jackets have been absolutely everywhere! inside and out! what do you do with the frigates? any good eating?
  6. hey bud! why is that you always have a fun trip when I can't go with you! that's twice now! hahahaha I'll be sure to pay out my cousin when I see him next, that's a nice big 'facial' he got there!!! yeah 2 weeks buddy, let's go get some dollies! and maybe some bigger kings as well!
  7. sorry I didn't see this report before I commented on the other one, looks like you didn't throw any squid back ahahha I got them all myself! and sheesh look at the size of those monsters!!! too bad on the kings, did you give molli a go? I am still waiting for the place to fire up like the last couple of years!
  8. hahahaha that comment coming from the squid king himself, the only reason why I got some is probably because you did in fact throw some back when I asked you last time =).
  9. pm sent pm sent as well yes, definitely give them sluggos a go! I would have done the same but didn't have them on me. hey mate! too bad about Thursday and yes there is always next time. wow! squid pass through as well? I need to keep a better look out next time I am down there. oh man! I got a diver mate who tells me he never ever sees anything take a jacket. No wonder why there are so many of them! as for a pihrana like behaviour, we put down a decent size yakka, brought it up a couple of minutes later, and I swear you not, all that came up was the skull and the back bone. Every little bit of flesh was eaten!!! couldn't believe it.
  10. Haven't been out to the bay for a while and hoping the time away has allowed the big kings to show up. Got onto the water at 9:30, first stop, yakka's, got a tank full in no time. Second stop squid grounds, but decided to sound out channel markers on the way, and I am pretty sure they were kings (some fairly big ones as well, picture attached), so put down a yakka but no interest was taken, if only I had some squid!!!! So off to get some, which was almost as easy as scoopong up prawns from windang got a tank full in 30 mins, enough for kings and a feed, so I left them biting . 2.5g Yamashita in orange and just some advice to anyone who wants to take it. The base colour of the jig is paramount when squidding. I had 2 rods out, both with 2.5g orange, but one was rainbow base and the other was gold. The gold didn't even get a touch, whilst the poor rainbow base ended up like it's been on the battlefield. So the tip here is, have a range of jig colours but also have them in different bases as well. Off to DR some of these squid for kings, some really good showings but the squid kept on getting smashed by pickers (later found out to be jackets!!! :ranting2: ). I am fairly sure if the squid could stay on the hook long enough, the kings would have a chance. Did manage to get 2 rats though, left enough squid to make rings for the kids. Water temp 22.
  11. Nice one! doesn't look to skinny to me! hehehe great effort off the rocks mate, do you cast the yakka out? if so, how do you keep the hook from pulling off?
  12. Well done mate! Sheesh there are some big ones there! Too bad about the kings, what was the water temperature if you don't mind me asking?
  13. Good one buddy! But throw some back for the rest of us! Lol
  14. Love them whitings ! The olds love them! they been complaining that I haven't been targeting them lately so they were quite pleased when I got them a few. Saved some prawns for the next session in the bay so see how I go with them. Nothing to prawning mate, get a decent light and net, stand in the water and scoop them up as they flow past. Although I made the job a little easier as I was in the kayak using the electric, just motored around and scooped them up. If only squidding was just as easy! Lol Yeah, there were heaps of swimmers coming past but were all undersize, think all the boats up the lake had already taken all the big ones. How did u go on Friday night? We had plenty of bigs ones, just chuck them into some noodles! Yum!! Yes, it does get pretty packed so get there early and bag a spot. Too bad buddy, at least u got a feed. Like targeting kingies, effort needs to be put in to getting the 'candy'. And if the whiting and flatties are on the bite, you'll smash them. There were about 3 other groups fishing along side us but we were the only ones pulling in fish. Servo prawns or local fresh ones? Hmmmmm... Yeah buddy, 2 boat convoy to the dang, next trip!
  15. Hi Raiders, haven't been to down to the dang for a while and a mate has been smashing the whiting and flatties and gave me the call up to join him and a couple of other mates on Friday night. Got the approval from the wife and headed down, first up was to get whiting candy (local prawns) and when they're running, it's like taking candy off a kid. Too easy! and was awesome fun! Saved the big ones to eat and used the rest for bait. Spent the the next couple of hours bringing in some nice whiting and flatties. It was a nice change from the usual downrigging for kings and I almost forgot how relaxing LB fishing was.
  16. well done Jeff! Congrats on the new PB! Sashimi for a week now! =)
  17. Top read mate, awesome job! How big did the king go?
  18. AHAHAHA funny bastard! don't u just hate it when squid goes to waste like that! wonder when we'll see a picture of a decent king with the breakwall in the background?
  19. well done guys! sounds like you had a blast! but man, from what you've described, sounds like a very tiring day as well!! isn't Gavin usually in a PA? what's he doing in an adventure island?
  20. awesome kings mate! and on 20lb tackle, that would have taken a lot of patience. Assume you were in pretty deep water then?
  21. Congrats mate! And what a report, thought I was on the boat with you for a few seconds there hehe Can't wait to join company and feel what it's like to hook up onto one of these guys.
  22. Awesome job buddy! Let the addiction begin hehe Is that a downrigger in the background? What brand is it?
  23. Hey mate, well done! That's an awesome looking dollie. A fish I still have yet to add to my list, maybe this summer. See you out on the water, and don't worry, I still remember that I still owe you a squid. Hehehe
  24. mate!!! well done! goes to prove if you put in the time and effort, you'll be rewarded! great effort mate! I am sure a lot of fisho's will be inspired by this report =). think it's going to be a busy harbour and bay this weekend that's for sure!
