  1. Thanks, 80lb Dawai accudepth braid, to about 3 metres of 80lb shock leader to swivel and then 80lb flurocarbon. Never really tried with SP's but maybe give it a go one day.... all our catches of late has all been squid.
  2. AHAHHA man when I looked back on the video, it was so embarassing to see myself in that position, but thought I had to share tips on how NOT TO stand when trying to gaff! hmmmm... squidding video of backgrounds... might have to think about that a little J, we might just sneak in some peeks here and there
  3. hey Chris, PM me for any questions you might have on gear, hopefully we'll get you onto a King before next season HAHAHAHa we're use to gaffing larger kings, there isn't enough surface area on these smaller ones! nah, I am just hopeless at gaffing, I'd rather just haul them in via the leader, but Formosan insists I gaff them. Not a problem, hopefully we'll get a hoodie on video next time..
  4. Thanks Luke, the trick is to mix it up, range between 2-5knots and stick it into neutral once in a while. Yeah u do sound a little bit sick, permission granted for a day off on the bay ehheeh
  5. Nice chatting to you to mate, and was that an ocean kayak you were in? I have one myself and I still haven't tested her out in the bay, been meaning too but it's just so much easier in the boat hehehe where do you launch from?
  6. thanks mate. Formosan, make sure you find out what a cox craft looks like so we can keep an eye out for him thanks Dangas, it's taken us a little while to get to get to where we're at now, and sometimes it's being at the right place and right time, and fortunately for us, it's been happening shame about those jackets, think we'll all be heading out there once the cold comes in, hopefully those pesky jackets aren't around then.
  7. Hi Raiders, had the day off along with Formosan, and we decided to hit the bay to target, yes you guessed it KINGS. Got our squid fairly quickly, ended up with 9 good size ones. I even got a decent rock cod on a squid jig, first for me . Hit our usual spot outside the bay, and started downrigging. We saw a heap of activity on the sounder which was a good sign but after 3 passes, we didn't get a touch, but on our 4th, bang, we're on, and by the way it was stripping line off with 15kg drag, I knew it was going to be a new PB for me and this thing pulled hard!!! at one stage, I even thought I was snagged when being driven out to deeper waters. We soon get it close to the boat and the leader is visible, but the downrigger cable on the spool decides to go belly up and wanted to make a nest for the gulls that were flying around so we couldn't get the bomb up. We see colour but still too far for a gaff shot, and it runs under the boat and rubs the line against the cable, and you know what happened next. We spent (well it was mostly Formosan ) the next hour trying to untangle the complete mess of cable on the downrigger... started the passes again, saw some activity but they did not want to play anymore. So we decided to head inside to give it a go, in the next 1.5 hours we took turns hauling in kings from 75-85cm which was good fun, ended up with 8, and kept 5 for us and our families. If you've watched the video I've posted last week, you'll know exactly the spot sun was getting quite low so we decided to call it a day, in the end, not too bad, but I would of swapped them all for that 1 hoodie that got away. So the kings are definitely inside the bay and the rats have definitely grown up, so definitely get out there and get em'. Stay tuned for the video.
  8. You forgot to mention one other thing Andrew, need a bit of luck as well... and I love the outfit, the 35HS goes hard!! got mine preset to 15kg also. Formosan's got the same reel as well.
  9. Not a problem Trung, want to help get you off those donuts mate! You've lost them all?!?!? lucky you got a whole bunch coming in
  10. Top king Andrew! And congrats on the new PB, those new SS holders held I assume?
  11. Well done buddy! Yeah I am sorry I couldn't make it too, but the mrs calls it family day! Be sure to ge out soon and try to tangle with them. Love the photo of you with the rat, who u showing the bird to?
  12. Always a great read Tony! And as usual, well done on the bread n' butters. You sure know how to land them! And we'll try to leave all the donuts with sprinkles to Trung.
  13. well done guys! that's a lot of time DR'ing but it paid off in the end, so good on ya for persisting. In regards to the rod holders, I would even steer clear of the cheap SS ones. They twist all out of shape under load, go for the heavy duty ones that are welded all around the neck, they are tough as!
  14. Well done Dan! You sure are a fast learner! That's a whopping snapper by Bay standards! I would call the one that got away for a decent size king, what gear did you get spooled on? Seems like everyone is trying to get out on Sunday, hopefully I can be amongst you all too.
  15. I've posted a photo of all my jigs already so you should know what I use . I think everyone wants to see your gear now! Hehehe Bring on the squid off!!! Winner takes all the squid! Hehe
  16. I was going to say Formosan, those berkley jigs are Trung's secret weapon. He loves and swears by them Trung! I am yet convinced, my yamashita's still serve me well. But in saying that, I do have a bunch of berkley's arriving soon
  17. The pulled hook comes with fishing, sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. But it was all the other bad luck that I had that day that caused me to 1. Boat went over my line squidding and almost spooled my line (not mentioning any names, FORMOSAN! ) 2. Line wrapping around the prop, taking another sh!tload of line 3. Falling into the drink whilst trying to get the line off the prop and badly hitting my arms and legs on the engine. 4. Rod tip snapping
  18. hey mate, thanks. Was done on a Bullet HD 720P camera. But I do have the Go Pro Hero2 on order, so I'll get better quality videos. Haven't been able to bump into you lately on the water, maybe this weekend? ahahhah all this coming from the squidding king himself, we try to turn up to the squid grounds before dhype or else it's going to be a hard slog at getting them squid.
  19. thanks everyone for the positive comments, I'll try to get into the more technical stuff we do on the next video and hopefully help some raiders out.
  20. Hi Raiders. This is related to the post submitted by Formosan (http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=62677) We took 2 boats out on Sunday searching for Kings. Getting the squid was a little difficult for my boat as the current was running quite strong and I didn't have any heavy jigs, but Formosan had them jumping into his tank, he even had to offload some yakkas as he was running out of room for his squid But as soon as the current slowed down, we got onto them as well. We ventured outside and put them down on the DR, wasn't too hopeful as the sounder was quite bare and only ended up picking up a stinky salmon, so both boats decided to venture inside and DR around the drums. And that's when the action started, Formosan's boat was onto them whilst the only thing I was onto was bad luck, pulled hooks, line wrapping around anchor, rod tip breaking, I can still go on but you get the point. Here is a quick video of the day, too bad the camera wasn't on Foromosan's boat, would have got actual footage of kings being landed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocZfLQ3OL2w
  21. Man! Never had so much bad luck in the one day, I thought giving away squid was good karma! Hehehe so my stats made you test your knots? Hehehe
  22. That's a beast of a Jew! well done mate, makes me want to put the kingie gear away and dust off the jewie gear.
  23. Awesome job again buddy! You've been putting all your deckies onto them kings! So when does the charter start, put me down first ok.
  24. did it again mate! well done! we're heading out tomorrow, hopefully we can run into a few ourselves.
  25. Hey buddy, nice set of inkers! I've never tried the ones i've caught sashimi style, might give them a go next time. How did you go today? We're out tomorrow, hopefully you've left enough squid around for us
