  1. Wow Slinky, what a great read.....and what a fantastic spot to wet a line!!! You've just added another spot to my "must fish" list. AWSOME stuff , congratulations ..................you luck bugger! Cheers, Smitty...
  2. WOW, some serious horses there, just imagine how much hay they would chew through with their throttles wide open!!!
  3. WHAT A FISH !!! and what a beautiful spot to fish..........I fished the wall on the Dunbogan side about 8 month ago (doesn't the tide rip through there!), we got some nice fish but nothing like that cracker. Congratulation Karen, well done. Smitty...
  4. Have a VERY happy birthday Stephen, congratulations on reaching your half ton. Hope you have great one mate!!! Cheers, Chris... P. S. We'll have to catch up for a fish some day soon, Do you fancy a trip to the pallet this weekend?
  5. Thanks for the Birthday wishes everyone! I have had a pretty good day - would have been a lot better if I'd have been fishing instead of working . Oh well...........only two more days before I'm off to Ulludulla and surrounding areas for 5 days fishing - I can't bloody wait . Catch y'all later, Chris...
  6. Hi BeachAngler, Drummer LOVE bread................and you won't catch as many of the "pest" species' either!! Most of the ooglies you'll catch on prawn or cunji dont seem to go for the bread as readily - imho. Make a nice sloppy burley, spread plenty around and squeeze tear drop shaped bread tightly onto your hook (point exposed). I use small running sinkers and number 2 hooks and let the bait wash around, with the drag screwed down tight. Have fun, Smitty...
  7. Congratulations Simmo, good work on nailing your first Blackies!!! Now you have experienced the DARK SIDE there will be NO turning back........it is usless trying to resist . May the float be with you........... Cheers, Smitty...
  8. Good on you mate for being honest, I hope someone comes forward for it. Smitty...
  9. Thats a great bag of blackies WazG, there are some very nice fish amongst them.....well done! Spewin I'm grounded this weekend Cheers, Smitty
  10. Good reel choice BeachAngler! I've been using and abusing my 650C5 for 20 years now and its a trojen!!! You might just have to change drag washers every 10 years or so... Enjoy Smitty...
  11. Well done Greg, what a great way to spend a few hours! Good to see that the Parra is firing just as hard as the Georges at the moment....do you even keep any for the table from up there? Cheers, Smitty...
  12. Nice Drummer you got there Diver1, bet I know what your havin for dinner tonight! The only thing good about the cooler months is the fish that come with them. Smitty...
  13. Good info and great examples Ray..........................now where's my beach rod! Smitty...
  14. Good on ya Stephen, congratulations on scoring some new species mate and a nice feed of muddies . Pity about the wind and the sandflies though....they're mongrels . Catch ya soon, Chris...
  15. Cunji is great bait for most rock species......imho. I cut the whole thing in half (from the top) and remove the cunji from the rubbery case. If you look at the top of the case you will see the two distinct "nipples" (where it squirts from if you squeeze it), cut down so you cut both of these in half from the top. When you open the critter up it will then have two tough bits at the top of each half. Run your fingers around the soft bits, free it up and pull the two "half nipples" from the case. You should be left with a nice juicy bait with two tough nipple bits on the top (if its large you can cut this in half so you have a nipple on each bit and you get four baits from each cunji). Put the hook through the tough bit once or twice and then bury the hook in the soft bit... Drummer cant resist it. And dont waste the juice or empty cases either - add these to your burley. Dont try to cast it too far, just lob it (lightly weighted) in a nice wash and Bobs you uncle.......just be prepared for all sorts of ooglies in amongst the Drummer, Blackfish and Groper. Give it a go, its worth it. Cheers, Smitty...
  16. Hi all, just a quick report. The recent rain has slowed things up around me usual Blackfish spots (Picnic pt & Lagarno areas), so I though this weekend would be a waste of time. But Saturday arvo I got a call from a fishing mate who came across a few fish further down stream. Marine Boy and I headed off this morning........a bit late but better than never.......and were down Blakehurst way by about 10am. When we got there the two other blokes (Bob and Charlie, a fellow member) had a nice bag of fish each......and it wasnt long before I managed my first for the day. Unfortunately the late start was a handicap but we managed 4 nice fish and Marine Boy lost his Blackfish virginity before they went totally off the bite. It was beautiful morning (amazingly it only sprinkled rain once), we were completely sheltered from the wind and it was great to try out a new blackfish spot. Had some nice fillets tonight for dinner.....yummo! No pics sorry, camera at home flat!! Was nice to meet you Charlie (sorry mate, cant remember your user name).....I'm sure we will meet again on a rock somewhere along the Georges. Cheers, Smitty...
  17. WOW pisco, I just saw your photo - thats one HUGE river reddie. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Cheers, Smitty...
  18. Good to see you're putting in the hard yards Pete, shame about the big brownie mate sound like a VERY nice fish. I'm seriously considering another trip up to LL soon when the weather cools off a bit more, might see you up there. Cheers, Smitty...
  19. Hi all, I'm heading down the coast in a few weeks for a camping / fishing / blokes weekend on private property on the shores of Narrawallee inlet (north of Mollymook). Its bound to be a BIG weekend ... My question is, has anyone ever fished this waterway before? and if so what can I expect? I guess the usual estuary species are what I can expect but any inside info or local knowledge would be appreciated.. Thanks and regards Smitty...

Well done Simmo, you got yourself a couple of nice tailor....even with the crappy weather and lack of bait. Did you measure the fish? I agree with Ray R - looks like a six-spine jacket to me too. Cheers, Smitty...
  21. I've never caught a fish while I was sitting home wondering if they would be about! I for one will be having a go on the weekend - cause I'd rather be trying but catching nothing, than sitting home wondering if I'd of caught something . Have a great weekend everyone, and the best of luck to those who are mad enough to brave the elements . Cheers, Smitty...
  22. Shakeel, take a look at this page frm the DPI website. This will answer your question. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/pests-...reshwater-pests Cheers, Smitty
  23. G'day Yarraone, it was great to meet you and Abuman.......a couple of top blokes, great fire-side company and the best bloody firewood gatherers around!!!!! I don't think I'll ever forget the look on the other Raiders faces when youz drove back into camp with the best part of a gumtree on the boat trailer ...you're both champions! Pitty you didn't get a couple more fish after Chris a I left Saturday arvo........better luck next time hey! By the way, I too think that fish was probably a carp mate - so Abuman did us all a favour by removing it from the lake. Take it easy, I'll see ya at the next social. Cheers, Smitty...
  24. Good on ya Diver1, those fellas really do pull HARD hey, and they make for some beautiful white fillets too!!! A couple of nice fish there, well done ............might be time to get into them again myself. Cheers, Smitty...
  25. Went after a few blackies this morning on the banks of the Georges and managed 4 nice keeps, they've been filleted and skinned and will be happily sizzling away in the pan in about an hour - yuuuummm. The best fish of the morning (and what a beautiful morning it was!) measured a bit over 37cm and was real thick through the shoulders. Another bloke I was fishing with took home five nice fish. We got heaps of downs and released up to a dozen undersized fish.....there are a few good ones around but not in good numbers just yet. No pics sorry (camera was at home flat). Hope everyone has a great weekend!!! Cheers, Smitty
